We won't really know about our Offense until next Saturday

Sep 23, 2022, 8:40 AM

WF's defense is not good. None of the first 3 teams we've played have a good defense. DJ and our Offense should be putting up big offensive numbers. I would say the top 40 teams in the country would put up similarly numbers vs our recent schedule. Personally, I'll be disappointed if we don't score at least 34pts vs Wake. Next week vs NC State will be the first team we play with actually a competent Defense. If can consistently move the ball and score points against them, I'll finally good about our Offense.

So far all we know is we can put together one really good half, but not 2. Now is the time to put 2 solid halves together. I expect the D to get back on track after returning a bunch of starters.

If we don't feel better about our pass defense tomorrow, we better hope our offense shows up.

It’ll be a low scoring game vs State. I wouldn’t go into that game expecting too much out of the offense. It’ll be the best defense we face this season.

The defense that worries me most is FSU they have serious speed and a few guys who really get after the QB. NC state will be tough though bc they are A) a dirty team, B) Doeren treats his game vs clemson like the superbowl. C) it will be the first Defense that has real D1 talent at every position.

I somewhat agree. NC State is the best barometer. But Wake's defense is better than you're pretending. They are the #39 total defense (we're the #36). If our offense can put together a full game and look strong and well-balanced, I think that will tell us a lot of our team's potential in the ACC. If we then do the same against NC State (I'd be shocked), then that will tell us how far our team can go. If we could put up 30+ on them (while dominating their offense), we might have a real shot.

However, our current numbers. We're the #62 offense against those teams. That means 61 teams have put up better number per game. We have one of the weakest schedules. Far, far more teams than 40 could put up our numbers on GT, Louisiana Tech, and Furman. In fact, of GT's and LT's opponents, the only team we did better offensively than was Stephen F. Austin, an FCS team.

Look at Scoring Defense

Clemson is #21 and Wake is #62. I would submit this is what really matters.

I'm not worried about DJ or the RBs.

It's the OL, WRs, and play calling that need to improve.
