We Stopped Playing halfway in the 3rd.

Oct 16, 2022, 6:23 AM

First Great win on the road. With that said, We scored our last points with 7:32 left in the 3rd Qtr and it was like the coaching staff put our team to bed, sung a lullaby and told them goodnight.

That darn near cost us the game. You can get away with that with a lot of teams but FSU is reconstituting pretty quickly and I hope this doesn't happen again this year.

We'll be favored I would guess fairly heavily against Syracuse and that game scares me a bit. Dino is a good HC and that team has been a bit of a thorn in our side from time to time.

Agree. The offensive play calling became quite conservative after that, even as FSU began to show some life. Regarding Syracuse, I'd be a bit worried if we were playing them in the Dome but feel more confident with it being in Clemson. I'm not yet sold on the 'Cuse QB but their little running back could present some issues. With that being said, I see the Tigers finally winning big with a comfortable margin of victory in this one...

I take wins any way we can get them, but you're right: I

Oct 16, 2022, 6:43 AM

thought a major beatdown was on the way early in the third and just couldn't understand why in the fire the wind went out of our sails.

It was like we thought the game was well-in-hand (which largely it was,) and let up on the gas.

Regardless, next up: the Cuse...and I hope we decide to make that a he1l of a statement game!

GO TIGERRRRRRRS!

We played well during the critical eight minutes and then both offense and defense decided the game was over. Poor coaching!

Wrong, coaches call plays, players execute plays. Did you not hear Dabo say the "players" started playing the score board instead of the semiholes. Miscues on our part stopped drives that would have blown the game open.

Nope your are wrong. Coaches are at fault as much. Stop babying coaches. You are wrong. He has a point.

Always happy for a win and regardless of how our game went and ended it was a great win. Now for the topic on hand. Please explain deep in our end of the field and 3 straight QB runs were called.

It’s ok that you don’t like the prevent style of play as I don’t like it either. But for some reason you had to take it a step further by saying “darn near cost us the game” which is not even close to being true. When we needed to we simply ran the ball down their throats to run out the clock. The game was never in jeopardy.

When you add inaccuracies to make a point it destroys your entire post

If FSU covers the Onside Kick we could have lost

Oct 16, 2022, 7:49 AM

Yeah...the game was in jeopardy

Yeah...the game was in jeopardy

Had they actually recovered the onside kick. Then drove down the field and we stopped them on 4th and goal then “darn near cost Ilya the game” would be accurate. Nearly costing us the game and the game becoming tight are not the same

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You Said "The game was never in jeopardy"

Oct 16, 2022, 9:22 AM

That is simply not accurate. FSU had a tremendous amount of momentum. Had they recover the onside kick, it wouldn't be the entire field...it's would be about half the field with well over 2 minutes left.

I am simply refuting your suggestion that the game was "Never in Jeopardy" and that is simply not true.

What are you talking about? If they reducer the kick they can win the game. Yes it was close.

The score was 34-28 with about 2:17 left, and Florida St. attempting an onside kick. The game is most certainly in jeopardy at that point .

I beg to differ. If they had recovered the onside kick with 2 minutes left it could have been dicey with a 6 point lead. Last 3 times they had the ball they drove the field. Once for 93 yards. What saved us was their drive inside the 5 and they turned over on downs thanks to a penalty.

No Where Close to Costing Clemson The Game

Oct 16, 2022, 8:37 AM

Stop with the fearmongering. Dabo had the team turtle and let the clock do it's job.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgmilitary_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I wouldn’t go that far

Oct 16, 2022, 9:38 AM

We were a converted onside kick away from staring a L in the face.

I’d say that was due more to FSU and Travis playing great down the stretch than to Clemson playing poorly or too conservatively. If anything, we tried to get too cute on offense late in the 4th quarter. We were gashing them with runs up the middle, but tried a few QB runs and short passes when we could have probably stuck with the Shipley / Mafah attack. But that’s nit picky and based on hindsight. I can’t complan about the offensive play calling or effort and intensity.

On D we were applying great pressure - should’ve had a huge sack and possibly a safety - but Travis worked his magic and got off a big play. Sometimes the opponent just makes the play - doesn’t mean Clemson was easing off the gas.

I was thinking about it. Last week we had BC in basically the same situation, and they packed it in. I think that is why BC's coach got a little perturbed when we scored that last TD. BC had already conceded. WE thought F$U was going to do the same thing and to their credit they fought to the end. Hopefully, we can learn from it.

We often have our foot on the neck of our opponents and let up. I don’t see how playing 3rd stringers and them getting torched adds any valuable experience. Bama NEVER lets up. Stranglehold to the end. We were an onside kick away from LOSING a game that was over with 23 mins left. FINISH STRONG!!

Field position came into play after we stopped them at the goal line. That drove some play calling and gave FSU a short field on another drive.
I thought we did a great job of play calling.
I was laughing after we stopped them on goal line. I knew that 2 things would be posted. If we ran the ball 3 straight times, then the minions would complain about our OC and blame him. If he threw it and did not get away from goal, then the same minions would complain that the OC should have run it and used clock. No win.

I would have preferred in that situation to stick with the high percentage throws that had been working previously.

I’m hoping that going conservative in the 4th Q was intentional. That was the best FSU team we have faced. Thank goodness for the questionable coaching by FSU - the fake punt, the three passes on the goal line stand. A win is a win. One goal at a time. Beat SYRACUSE.

4th quarter Clemson 46 total yards Florida Srate 169 total yards and 2 touchdowns. You decide what changed.
