It isn't surprising that we were successful with:
-The best QB in our history (Watson)
-The best TE in our history (Leggett)
-One of the best receivers in our history (Williams)
-One of the best running backs in our history (Gallman)
It is widely known that Deshaun Watson had the freedom to audible at the line, and he frequently did. He made the offensive coordinators look very good.
Last year, with no Watson, Leggett, Williams, or Gallman, we struggled on offense. Offensive production was way down, and this is supported by tons of statistics comparing last year to the year before. Our mediocre offense let us down against Alabama, and if not for our great defense, would've probably cost us another game or two as well.
I'm tired of the excuses on offense. Bryant can't pass? Why not? Why hasn't he become more proficient at that over the past few years in our program? Bryant can't read defenses? Why not? Have the coaches not coached him on that? We don't have a good line. Why not? Our struggles on offense are either:
1. A recruiting problem.
2. A player development problem.
3. A coaching/schematic problem.
Or a combination of these three.
We aren't awful on offense, but beating weak ACC teams on our schedule, largely by having a great defense, and struggling mightily in the playoffs when it really counts shouldn't be good enough for our program at this stage. Of course it's great to win 12-13 games a year, but if we can barely get over midfield against Alabama then we need to change some things.
Shrugging off our offensive issues by saying "we won a lot of games last year" or making excuses for our players' inadequacies isn't going to help us beat Alabama this year.

It doesn't seem we have enabled kb to run the offense the same way dw4 did. In KBs defesne he doesn't have nearly the amount of game experience dw4 had. Maybe he's not ready to.
I am hoping we will see him take more control of the offesne as the year progresses.
It's pretty clear to me that scripting and playcalling are not the strength of our OCs, it was the adaptability on the field that made us so hard to stop.
