Rationale. Help me understand something. All I have heard here in Columbia all week on Gamecock radio. Is how “Clemson brings no TV market to the table for the SEC”. They’ve run Clemson down as “Not on the same par academically as NC or VA. That the SEC would want NC or VA before Clemson and the BIG would also. Because they’re both “state” schools with huge alum bases that Clemson doesn’t have.
To a degree I get that but the TV market rationale they claim seems weak. I mean they kept saying Gamecocks have the SC market and Gators have Florida market (FSU) so the SEC wouldn’t desire Clemson on that basis. If that was necessarily true why doesnt the SEC kick Vandy and Auburn out ? As Bama and Tennessee have those states covered?
As usual Gamecock radio was dis-ing Clemson while claiming they were just “pointing out facts”. ( coming from a cfb program that’s done 20 years as an SEC program with no championships and one blow out appearance in a champ game.
My thoughts are the SEC would want Clemson first. The potential upside to Clemson in the future (potential value) would drown out any thing NC or VA would bring cause we all know it’s about the money in the end
Any thoughts???

a lesser extent UNC. South Carolina is not on the same par academically as Clemson. Not sure I follow their logic.

I live in Cootlumbia, and I also will tune into the cluck & feather talking sports radio when I have to make a trip into town, and I heard them talking the same BS. But you have to laugh when you hear them talking about it, bc you know they are saying what they're saying, bc they know just how unimportant they are in sports, really!!! I know that everybody was wondering what I was laughing so hard about, but the ones that recognized what my orange represented, they knew why I was laughing, and they knew I was probably listening to coot radio!!!

The SEC would want Notre Dame first and then Clemson, Florida State and Miami would be in a shaker and which ever came out would be the pick. Carolina and UVA would be in the next group along with VT, Ville and NC State.

From an academic view, Clemson is a very good brand. The coots are extremely jealous of Clemson in every aspect except women's basketball.

That's what I believe. I mean jeez Arkansas, even Bama is easier than pie to get into. My kid fought like hell for two years to get into Clemson. He then found out how easy it was to get into Bama. Thankfully chose Clemson in the end. But you're right the SEC crowing about academics is laughable the BIG and the ACC have them covered in that respect. Course I know the coxks on the radio here in Columbia are biased. Its just funny they try to make themselves seem "intellectually fair minded". Lol

Bear in mind Columbia is where they make that awful gas station bathroom smell. They ship it all over the world but their constant exposure to it fogs their thinking

I don't think the bean counters at the networks care in the least about academics or culture. It's about eyes on the TV. Texas hasn't won anything in over a decade but they are a huge draw. I don't know were Clemson sits in terms of TV value. I'm sure if they bring in a monetary value commensurate with what they'd take, the SEC will welcome them. If not, culture or national championships won't matter.
