We are at 87 scholarships today and have to get down to 85 by the time camp starts

So, how are we going to get there?
And, are the rumors true that we have secured a WR in the portal? Because that would mean we would need to shed 3 scholarships

Why do we have to be at 85? There is no governing body of college sports.
I know Dabo will follow all of the rules. But this is another rule that needs to be challenged.
It could and probably will go back to Bear Bryant days of having as many players as the coach wants.

The NCAA is so afraid of being sued that they are not going to challenge anything. With one lawsuit the NCAA will probably be disbanded.
Then the top dogs lose their golden calf.

Many schools oversign and have been doing so for years. Between now and August attrition will take care of the 3 or 4 extra. And, that was before NIL and the portal.
People will just quit. People will get injured. People will transfer. Etc.
89 should not be a problem come August. I expect Clemson to pick up a couple of guys on late signing days and a couple of guys in the May portal window.
How many times do people complain that a walk on is given a scholarship? How many times do people complain "We didn't oversign, so now we only have 80 guys on ship?"

If it comes down to it, walk on scholarships may not be renewed for the next season. More likely, a couple of guys will leave after spring.

That's 87 with all the new signees. Some are summer enrollees and will not count towards the required 85 in the Spring. So let's just wait and see how it all plays out. I am pretty sure that our coaching staff know more about what goes on behind the scenes than us fans.
