Watching the antics at Tennessee this weekend

Reminds me of something that I heard Coach Parker say at an Iptay meeting years ago. The Tigers had just played the Vols in a mid season game 1974 I believe and suffered through a loss to the Vols. Red said it was so bad up there that the fans threw babies in the aisles! I now see what he meant! The very big win that the Tigers and coach Bowden had in the Peach Bowl in 2003 was made even sweeter.

and a long-time member of the booster organization. While he was actually recruited as a baseball player, he played basketball for the Vols in the early to mid 50's.

That said, I have been to games there more times than I can count and I can honestly say from direct first hand experience, their fans are a different breed. I have never heard women cuss like female Vol fans. The use of profanities and vulgar language flowed freely and fluently.

Was there for the '74 game loss at Neyland Stadium. Tenn. hid a WR at he Tennessee sideline before a long pass play to him score a deciding TD. Thinking Johnny Majors was the coach for the Vols. Clemson played well enough to be very competitive & fans were proud. Lots written postgame about the hidden player routine they executed.

Plus on the Condridge Holloway TD pass there were numerous UT linemen downfield waiting to
block for him as he scrambled. Nothing was called. Condridge is a good guy who broke down many barriers
but we got hosed on that play and that game.

I believe you're talking about the 2 point conversion that won the game, Holloway to Seivers. Bill Battle was the Vols' coach. And a guy named Tommy West was the TE in that game.

I don't know how often Tenn. fans throw things at opposing coaches but I am sure Lane Kiffin knew he was going to be very unpopular on his return to the Volunteer stadium. The Tenn. fans were dissed when he left for USC after only one year of a 6 year contract.
