Watching the 2018 game on ACCN and it’s obvious that we are

Missing the ability to run the zone-read. DJ, just doesn’t have the decision making that Trevor had running the zone-read. It’s what our offense is missing. We leaned on it so much and we can’t effectively run it now. It’s something that has been the crutch of our offense every season under Elliott and Scott, and now Tony is struggling without it.

Hopefully competition is coming in January that will help make both of them great.

I want DJ to succeed. I think he’s a great kid with a great head on his shoulders. It honestly kills me to see him struggling so bad. I don’t know what the answer is, but hopefully Cade can help the situation.

He has struggled this year but the surounding cast has fallen off too versus last year. It isnt all him.

Definitely a lot of drops, but he’s missed soooooo many wide open receivers this season. I don’t pin it 100% on him, but his inability to run the zone-read is definitely hurting the offense.

I don’t understand why we recruited him if he can’t run the offense

we like to run.
I also don’t understand why we can’t find at least one capable backup who can run our offense and take over the starting role if needed.
Finally, I also don’t understand why we can’t adapt our offense to the players we have. Square pegs don’t fit in round holes.

I honestly think that the coaching staff just missed on him. I think he can be great, I just don’t know think it’s in our current offensive blueprint, and I don’t think Elliott has the coaching experience or creativity to adapt to what fits him best. Yes, Tony has won 2 National Championships, but it’s beyond obvious to at least me that the team has struggled on offense since Scott left.

Well, he seems to be getting better

And I feel like the O’line has improved down the stretch. I also think the play calling has been a focus area that has improved some. The use of the tight ends, which too could be out of necessity with a shallow WR group at the moment.
DJ, in my opinion, is a late bloomer. I think the game will slow down for him. Tons of upside and I see a huge off-season bringing him back a much improved player.

Unfortunately his “improvement” still puts him in the below average category. We HAVE to be able to throw the ball more than 180 yards a game to be success. DJ has to make the throws that he’s missing. We all know that it isn’t a talent issue. It has to be a psychological thing. You don’t walk out and look like gods gift to football one year and then not be able complete pass over 7 yards to a wide open receiver the next. Maybe it’s time to move away from Streeter at QB coach. I get that Trevor is on an atrocious team, but he is struggling bad adjusting to the NFL and I feel like a good bit of that is our QB development. I mean, but let’s be honest here, I’m just a dude that watches and not a coach. ?????????

I think we’re better this year than you want to give credit for.

In all three of our losses, our fans did NOT outnumber the fans of the opposing team.
That’s a huge problem, and our base of fans needs to look themselves in the mirror real close.
No excuse not to have a majority of fans in attendance tonight. The game is in the state of SC, and even closer to our campus than Charleston.

And TE doesn't have the ability to restructure the offense around the type of QB they recruited...

Let's be honest. It was not the zone read but the zone hand off for the first 10 games of the season. I think that DJ kept it more against Wake than the rest of the games combined and that was with a bad wheel. Hopefully, the Wake game will help him realize that the defense doesn't have to fear his running ability, but they do have to respect it for the zone read to work.
