Wanna leave Clemson ... Good Luck

Sep 16, 2019, 7:42 AM

Feaster and Shaq Smith left Clemson this year. They now play for Maryland and Usuck.

Stat lines through 3 games
Shaq Smith - 3 tackles and 1 sack
Feaster - 55 yards per game and 1/3rd TD per game.

Neither guy will make an impact after college, both guys will go on and play losing football for their final season and took the easy way out vs competing for their jobs (which is why they are highly rated HS players and backups in CFB)

No need to be tacky

Those guys had their reasons for leaving, and as far as we know they left on good terms with the staff. There's no reason to be ugly. I hope both of their teams have miserable years, but that's because of the logo on their helmets, not the individuals themselves. We can still wish the young men the best of luck making it to the next level.

I agree. I think Shak left for family and personal reasons and Feaster left as a Clemson graduate who had been an important contributor to the team. Wish them both the best. They're just kids.

Tacky? It's nothing but the truth. Stats to back it up and everything.

This is truth?

They were highly rated HS players that are backups in college - truth
They are going to a lesser quality team that plays losing football - truth
They could have competed for their jobs and decided to find an open spot on another team - truth
Other guys in similar positions decided to stay and compete at Clemson - truth

To me we create a culture where people are tempted to take the easier way out vs working through adversity then we end up with a culture like USuck, Missouri and Maryland (two of these programs are in probation and the other one is a chicken).

Also keep in mind that Dabo has never accepted a transfer student. I wonder why?

The first paragraph of the post is true. The second paragraph is statistics, and there's a famous quote about statistics that you can Google. The third paragraph is opinion, and sour grapes at that.

I'll be the first to admit that it disturbed me more than I thought it would to see Feaster in a SCar uniform. But I don't have any ill will towards him personally. I don't want to see his numbers tank. I don't want to see him have an All-American season, either, but that's because of the uniform he wears, not the decisions he made.

As for Smith, he can have an All-World season for all I care. I enjoy watching Maryland suck, but it's also no skin off my back if they do well, unless it directly impacts our season.

Sorry, I do not align to your feelings. Both Shaq and Feaster invested into our program winning a national championship. I thank them for that and wish them all the best in achieving their personal goals.

You know...the classy high road.

I'm pretty certain that Shaq did not play in the SU game, as he was injured at that time. Not sure about the Temple game.

These guys are trying to make a future for themselves, so I'm good with that. Unless someone else is interested in supporting their future families, maybe let it go.

Re: Wanna leave Clemson ... Good Luck

Sep 16, 2019, 9:47 AM

I think these are very different situations.

Shaq is getting exactly what he wanted out of his decision. He has already gotten to experience championships. He wanted to be on the field as much as possible in his final season. Based on your report of his play vs the guys who remain at Clemson, he may have had a hard time getting to play the snaps he wanted. Good decision by Shaq and I hope he improves as the season goes.

Feaster either got sold a lie or his vision was clouded while making his choice or both. Like it or not Feaster would have made our already loaded offense better simply because he is different. Variation is a good thing and he has attributes that ETN and Dixon don't have even though his total package may not be as good as either. I am torn between hoping that he can't help a team that I always want to tank and the idea of feeling sorry for him if he was blatantly lied to.

The truth is that it seems the only thing the Feaster transfer did was make Dowdle raise his level of play. Feaster is still currently playing second fiddle and is losing along with it. That has to be a tough pill to swallow. It will be interesting to see how things progress for him as the season moves forward.

I hate it for Feaster. Whatever his reasons were for leaving I don’t think this is what he had in mind.

I feel like Feaster must be questioning his move. He's not the starter. It's clear
he wont get as many runs as Dowdle.
He's in a toxic environment. Like I said earlier, he must feel like he traded his
Ferrari for a Pinto

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Honestly, I really thought Feaster

Sep 16, 2019, 10:04 AM

Would return to his track roots and have a successful pro career that way. Perhaps he still can, since the elite mature later. He keeps playing football, he puts that route in jeopardy.

Shaq graduated & went home to his child

Sep 16, 2019, 10:08 AM

In a world of deadbeat Dad's, gotta respect the young man for that.

By all reports,he's really affected their locker room already.

Feaster, well he's the EX that felt slighted and hit his knees for his Beau's Rival. Happens everday in real life.

I'm curious how many plays Shaq Smith has been in so far. Regardless, I don't think he regrets his decision at all.

Feaster knew what he was getting in to. I couldn't care less if he has regrets or not and wish the obsession of so many about him would stop. It's so petty.

Based on LJD so far, our team may not miss him at all. Depends if Dukes or Mellusi can develop into a dependable 3rd option by season's end.

Re: Wanna leave Clemson ... Good Luck

Sep 16, 2019, 10:14 AM

I agree with the others who responded. It only makes Clemson look bad especially to future recruits if they see how quickly fans will turn on them in certain situations it could cost Clemson a quality recruit.

IMO Feaster and Shaw could have helped Clemson this year while getting more positive exposure. I don’t know all the details but I was taught that if you cannot say something positive about someone then it’s probably best not to say it. And I wish the best for Kelly Bryant to.

I wish them both much success in life. And it is either Once a Tiger always a Tiger or it’s not. You can ride the fence on this issue.

In Feaster's defense, he is getting more touches at SC.

Sep 16, 2019, 10:36 AM

Clemson - 2018 through first 3 games:
15 rushes for 55 yds and 1 TD
2 catches for 18 yds

SC - 2019 through first 3 games:
29 rushes for 169 yds and 1 TD
7 catches for 47 yds

In looking back at his 2018 stats I was pretty surprised at how few touches Feaster actually had during the season. He only had a total of 89 touches in 15 games, which was less than his 2017 campaign. I don't like that he went to SC, but can't really fault him for leaving.

Re: In Feaster's defense, he is getting more touches at SC.

Here is my complaints:

1). Kids are being recruited under scholarships from other schools with false pretenses to join their program.
2). These kids are finding it too easy to cash out vs competing to the end with everything they have got
3). Dabo is pretty up front and transparent with recruits and players about opportunities. He has high expectations and wants you to be the best version of yourself.

Here are players I admire: Albert Huggins and any WR that is competing against Higgins and Ross for playing time and didn’t leave.

Here are players I don’t admire: Kelly Bryant (quit on team during season and would have come across savior of program which is now Chase), Belk and Feaster (you don’t go to an in-State rival 2.5 hrs away)

This is my opinion and if you don’t want to compete, finish and truly be All In ... then programs like Missouri, SC or Maryland will be glad to have you.

Re: In Feaster's defense, he is getting more touches at SC.

Sep 17, 2019, 1:19 AM

If you have a complaint about players who transfer after graduating from Clemson, then I feel sorry for you.

They don't live their lives to please you. After graduation, they have every right to do whatever they want because it is THEY, not you, who are affected by the decision. Get over it.

I wish the best to Feaster and Shaq Smith and have no problem with what they did.

As discussed a while back in another thread, Kelly Bryant actually did the team a favor by leaving instead of staying around. He said some things he shouldn't have, but whatever.
