This is why they like to play us at noon at The Cockroach.
That way they get to leave at halftime because they are losing so badly, drink 2 six packs and have the single wide pressure washed before their Trophy-Wife gets back from the Tattoo Parlor.

Re: West Virginia Orange Bowl***

Feb 28, 2017, 8:49 AM

Don't remember the Texas Tech bowl game, but the others were all events I jotted down in my memory for a payback some day. I want this little blip of 5 losses to usuc to look like a blink after we whip the daylights out of them year after year for a long time. The Tanneyhill thing bothered me, but when I thought of how long they had suffered, I kind of understood that they had to let out 110 years of frustration. The rock was worthy of the Death Penalty, IMO.That would have sent the right message out to future ne'er-do-well imps.

Re: Most Anger you've felt as a CU Fan?

Feb 27, 2017, 11:08 PM

Worst in-person for me was the 2003 game versus UGA.

Then in 2007 (not in attendance), still under Bowden, another home game but versus VT, in which I felt like I was watching the pathetic Mud Dogs Coach (Movie "Waterboy") against his arch nemesis that had his playbook/was totally in his head, Beamer.

The game against GT in 1998, where Tommy West didn't even use all of our timeouts for our final possible game winning drive at the end was pretty bad, too. However, I found peace in that one. Considering, it was a for sure final nail in his Clemson coaching coffin.

Re: Most Anger you've felt as a CU Fan?

Feb 27, 2017, 11:09 PM

1. Hiring Tommy West - living in Chattanooga and watching West destroy a decent UTC team and CLEMSON actually hiring the guy.
2. Hiring Tommy Bowden - there ain't no room on the CLEMSON campus for a Bowden
3. Attempting to watch Shyatt coach BBall (now replaced by attempting to watch CBB coach BBall)
4. Getting back too late to campus and missing a good time with Deb - uh - scratch that...

Re: Most Anger you've felt as a CU Fan?

I give Shyatt a pass for beating #1 UNC, then having to be restrained from whipping Matt Dougherty's @$$ at the ACC Tournament. Shyatt also would have gotten us our first W @ Chapel Hill, had the Tobacco Rd Refs not came through for the Tarholes.

Coot band cranking up in the middle of our Alma Mater this year really got under my skin. THEN, to hear all the unsubstantiated claims they made after our handing them their #### just made it worse.

I want to beat them down again next year like we did this year and Dabo to save the timeouts and give our seniors a final bow in the middle of Williams Brice...

Gamewise...Tate George ruined college basketball for me.

That fumble near the end of the FSU game at their place 3 years ago crushed my soul...As did the 55 yard field goal they kicked to keep it out of OT a few years prior to that.

Anger directed elsewhere, is probably in 2005 when I was leaving the cockroach and a fan grabbed my girlfriends arm and called her a c*** during the cadence count. Re: Most Anger you've felt as a CU Fan?

Feb 28, 2017, 7:13 AM

In no particular order...

+ losing to South Florida in the Car Care Bowl

+ 2000 Georgia Tech, Godsey-Watkins TD to steal what we thought was a sure win

+ 2004 Georgia Tech, Calvin Johnson catch over Justin Miller. I've never come so close to throwing something at the television.

+ any loss to Georgia Tech, really...in my mind there is no excuse for ever losing to them.

+ 2001 home loss to UVA - if I remember correctly, we came into that season thinking we were going to be a great team. After blowing the game against UVA I have never been so disgusted and I remember saying as I stomped up the hill, "our entire season is gone". That was prescient, as we went 7-5 with Woody Dantzler as QB (how the HELL did we go 7-5 with Dantzler as QB?!) including an ugly loss to SCar (on my birthday, no less).

+ being shut out at home by UGA in 2003

+ 2006 loss to Maryland in a game Bowden thought we could win by kicking FGs. Even before the game started you could tell something was not right in Death Valley...the crowd was not in it, the team was not in it. And Maryland proceeded to take advantage and embarrass us at home.

+ 1994 loss to SCar, my final game as a student

+ 1992 loss to Taneyhill because I hate him, and to this day he is the only former SCar player that I actively despise

+ Losing to f***ing Garcia in 2010. That game made me livid in lots of ways. For one, it gave them their first win streak over us since before I was born. I was made even angrier by the fact that my seats were surrounded by SCar fans who had been sold their tickets by season ticket holders. That really p!ssed me off good. There were 2 college-aged girls in front of me whom I almost cussed out several times because they kept shooting me dirty looks, like *I* was in the wrong section.

+ Losing to Dylan Thompson in 2012

I've probably been angrier in particular moments during games and in fact can remember times where I was about to burst a blood vessel screaming at refs or coaches, but in overall situations, those are probably the worst.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

anger and disappointment

Feb 28, 2017, 7:25 AM

Are two different feelings! Most of the responses are disappointing loses to rivals. The WV Orange Bowl was certainly at the top of that list for me because the Tigers gave up in that game.

Nothing angers me more than the entire probation deal in the early 80's. If you youngsters had been around then and had to endure the comments of Jim Lampley and others, most with Tarheel connections, you would really be angry. And now I have to watch the powerful NCAA ignore actions by the Blues that are much, much worse than what we were accused of doing. These were real ANGER times for this Tiger

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I agree

Feb 28, 2017, 11:55 AM

That's why I didn't list the WVU Orange Bowl. It didn't make me angry...just sad. Same with the Tangerine Bowl debacle against Texas Tech. I'd say all the games I listed above, though, I was pretty d*mned angry after them.

Feb 28, 2017, 7:49 AM

Chapel Hill, NC. Clemson had that game won easily until the referees made it look like a UNC basketball game with bad calls against Clemson. UNC had a fourth down pass completion in the last minute that should have been called incomplete or a completion and a fumble to the Tigers, but instead it was called a completion, UNC ball. Their touchdown was a completion where the ball wall knocked loose the instant he caught it but it was ruled a catch. Even the UNC fans didn't think he caught it and didn't cheer until the ref ruled touchdown. i was ready to strangle those referees.

Like someone else said, there were plenty of disappointments, but the most angry I remember being as a Clemson fan was after the Maryland loss at home back in the 80's (someone help me with the year) when Maryland "scored" at the end to win. On the play was a delay of game (not called), and a false start (not called), and the receiver bobbled the ball all the way out of the end zone but was given the touchdown.
