wakes coach is correct

same also needs to be though about with players trotting toward out of bounds but then taking off when the defense lets up as well

If they’re going to do that then they shouldn’t be penalized for rocking their world

When they do run out of bounds or slide. Same as “fake fair catch”

Agree, same as with a fake spike. That should be rebuked as well.

The difference with a fake spike is that one is

a simple clock management tactic and one is for player safety. They put a rule in place to protect quarterbacks and Pitt’s QB exploited it. That’s dangerous. There’s no inherent safety issue associated with spiking a football.

null

That was pretty BS, it should be treated like a fair catch. QBs can just take advantage of that every time they get near the sidelines or open field. I'm sure they'll make some rule on it now, since someone used that move.

He will get his comeuppance in the NFL — ala Johnny Manzel and Baker Mayfield

Should be the same as a fair catch.

Any movement that makes the defense stop playing should be the end of the play.

Why

Re: wakes coach is correct

This is probably the first time anyone ever got mad about a fake slide. Fake slides just dont happen very often or at all. So its an easy rule change in the offseason. No point having rules in the rulebook that were never needed.
