TNET: Elliott pleased with the overall play of his offense

Sep 12, 2021, 8:28 AM

Elliott pleased with the overall play of his offense

The Clemson offense rebounded in a big way on Saturday inside of Death Valley against South Carolina State, putting up over 500 yards of total offense and rushing the ball for 242 yards after only recording two yards on the ground last week. Full Story »

DJ is pressing, needs to relax, and not rush his throws. We know he's capable, just look at last year's film.

I still want to see more downfield shots, even if it means max protect. Some crossing patterns, and some rolls to the TE.

Just a thought, but didn't TL start a little off in year two?

Go Tigers

Pleased isn't the word I'd use but he's the one who will be unemployed if their play doesn't dramatically improve, so he can stick his head in the sand if he wants, I suppose.

Venables wasn’t pleased with his defense

And they’re much better. Head scratcher

Yeah it is. He acts like running the football was a highlight. You're talking a bad, I mean bad SC State team. Instead of 6.7 yrd per run against State was nothing to be proud of.

Being 14 of 24 for 187, which thankful it was that only because of yac, is nothing to be proud of.

Hopefully just coachspeak and trying to get djs head right.

TL may have started slow, but his starting slow was better than this. TL was off and throw high a few times but not like this.

So far...

Sep 12, 2021, 9:34 AM

...I am not that impressed with DJ. At the present time he is not the QB I thought he would be, especially after the two games he played last year. He still has a lot to prove but will he? I remain skeptical until he proves otherwise..

For the most part I've been unimpressed with the play of our offense in the first couple games for the past 6 years or so. Every time (mostly)they start slow then improve quite a bit as the year goes on. I know they score points early, but most of those are on big hits. It takes a while for the offense to develop to where they can consistently drive down the field. Saturday looked decent in that regard. Looking forward to seeing what they do with GT.

It will all be ok. Relax and enjoy the ride.

Tell me about it… Every QB we’ve gotten since Boyd has regressed as a whole after their freshman year. DW4, TL16 and now DJ5. What we have is a QB coach who’s trying to coach up to a level he’s not capable of. Streeter was a crap QB back in the day and he’s never been in the level of these kids. Add in an inept OC, (which by the way was a really mediocre WR, turned RB coach, now TE coach who’s acting like an OC) a crappy less than stellar OL AND unsuccessful OL coach which is shown every game now and a stubborn HC who’s loyalty will be the downfall of us if he continues to hire position coaches with little to no experience who used to play here or just aren’t good. I LOVE Clemson and please don’t think otherwise. And yes I’m a “true” fan as some of the naysayers like to call it. But if Best Is The Standard we’re not in good shape. From an offensive standpoint anyways. It’s sad to look around the country yesterday at different FB teams and see how smooth they look against much better opponents with a 1/10 of the talent we possess. It doesn’t take long to see that they just have a better offensive coaching staff. As some have said in the comments already, if you can’t see the GLARING issues, you’re not being honest with yourself. Anyways, I hope something gives sooner than later. GO TIGERS!! ????????

Yeah, think you're a little on the deep end here. You can't just overlook winning two national championships...while doing the same
job you are trashing. Sure some things need adjusting but, you make it sound like the entire program is doomed...because we lost to the number two team in the country. Furthermore, they weren't great either. Let the season unfold...there is a long way to go. "Go Tigers!"

I’m thinking his expectations are lower than mine

Sep 12, 2021, 9:54 AM

I thought play calling was about setting up plays to exploit a defenses weaknesses and then drop a big shot play for a kill. It seems TE is just drawing cards from a random deck without any forethought.

Always glad to get a win, but it seems like the offense needs to either get more focused or simplified… too many plays with guys going the wrong way.

As much as I hate Ryan Day

Sep 12, 2021, 10:14 AM

He is an elite play caller. Yeah I know they lost yesterday but offense wasn’t the problem. Where has the middle of the field gone? It’s sidelines and screens. If S.C State is blowing up your screen game due to recognition, you’ve got a problem

Pleased seems a bit strong. I would prefer that he said we have a lot of work to do but that we saw some progress.

Seems to me there was an awful lot of confusion just handing the ball off and 3 turnovers.
Absolutely no sign that the passing game was heading the right way . We are lucky to have such a easy schedule and big time talent.
There is no reason why you as coaches with 11 weeks vs teams we obviously out man can’t find that sweet spot ??

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So BV ISN'T pleased with the performance of his D, but TE IS

Sep 12, 2021, 12:15 PM

pleased with the performance of his O? I think we have found the problem...Time to raise the expectations on the offensive side of the ball

As I said after the UGA game, we need an OC. Our offense is going nowhere and we're doing it in a hurry. I agree with all of the posts here that have called out the poor coaching across the board on offense, from QB's to the OC.

Our talent is mediocre at best this year and has been on the decline since Jeff Scott left. And I've said this before, we have a good ole boy coaching network with coaches that are way out of their league. We will never have 2 QBs like DW4 and TL16 and we had them back to back. That and our defense is why we won the 2 natties. You see very few teams with 4 up front defensive players like we had. You can wish for something miraculous next year. This year's run is over. Maybe we can hope for the ACCC.
