Unfortunately Dabo created too many issues.........

Nov 26, 2022, 11:01 PM

to be fixed over night..........we've played "bad football" all year but have been insulated by an atrocious conference for the better part of 3 years now that "cover" issues and blind fans by winning.

Dabo has gotten overconfident that "HIS WAY" is the only way and has refused to adapt which has put us in a fairly large bind that will take a few years to FIX ............BUT ONLY IF ALL THE PROPER CHANGES ARE MADE AFTER THE SEASON.

I believe all of our success has caused Dabo to be overconfident

Nov 26, 2022, 11:20 PM [ in reply to Unfortunately Dabo created too many issues......... ]

and fail to see the issues in front of him.

For me, it started when he chose to make Elliott and Scott co-coordinators after Morris left. Dabo had an opportunity to bring in a dynamic, proven OC, but instead he promoted two guys with no relevant experience for the position.

This looked like a good move at first. Our offense didn’t change much the first few years after that, which was also bolstered by having Deshaun Watson and other elite offensive talent. But slowly, we stared to slow the pace offensively. Some plays were removed. Elite talent continued to hide some significant schematic issues, but the cracks were starting to show themselves here and there.

The next big issue was promoting Streeter to replace Elliott. Again, the opportunity to bring in a proven OC with big time experience was missed. We continued to drift farther from the innovative offense we used to have. Plus, the caliber of players tasked with executing the offense declined as well, making for a much worse offense. We saw this last year with Elliott, and Dabo’s solution was amazingly to hand the reins to a coach who was on that same staff. Puzzling to say the least.

And if that wasn’t concerning enough, Dabo also decided to hire two unproven coaches as co-DCs after Venables left. Again, the opportunity to hire a dynamic and super successful coordinator was missed.

I also question most of the position coaches Dabo has hired in the last few years. Almost all of them did not have much if any coaching experience prior to being hired here. That shows with most of our position groups and their performance.

Basically, my concern is that Dabo has minimized the tremendous impact of the outstanding coaches he hired (Venables, Morris, etc.) when it came to recruiting, skill development, and game planning, and overvalued the impact of culture/family feel on our amazing success. He reasoned that the key would be continuing the family atmosphere, rather than hiring top football coaches, and that was incorrect.

If he doesn’t make some big changes to his philosophy - and I’ll honestly be surprised if he does - we will see our play on the field continue to decline and recruiting will follow. That will be a tough hole to climb out of.

yes. I agree with all of that........

Nov 26, 2022, 11:29 PM

many of his "philosophies" need to change.......his outlook on the portal has hurt this program. His "stinginess" w/ schollies to WORTHY HS players yet Oprah giving of schollies to UNWORTHY/LESSER players is furthering our talent deficiencies.

the problems are SO EASY TO FIX........he's just too hard headed to fix them What I'm afraid of is if or when he DOES decide to change something it'll be too little too late.

Re: yes. I agree with all of that........

His lack of filling schollies is mind boggling. He makes $11mil a year, he could take $200-400k to pay for his experiments and gambles. He has used 5-10 schollies a yr on players that wouldn't make the team on Charleston Southern University.

Look at the hiring Saban has done, Smart has done, and look at the firing or the turnover, none of the hires are High School besties, or zero experience coaches. Saban hires the best often previous head coaches he can find. Dabo hires High School coaches, poetry writers, previous Clemson players with no experience.

And it has caused him to waste the best defense (2021)

and a very talented defense (2022) by having them as part of teams with no offense at all. It has also caused some excellent recruiting classes following the 2018, 2019, 2020 seasons to be wasted.

I posted the exact dame thing last week before our loss to Coots! People did not want to hear this, gave me a bunch of TDs, and just don't like to face the facts if you say something negative. Well guess what, it was the truth and the same ppl are mow saying the same or giving TUs today after a super disappointing disaster of coaching this game.

Love Dabo but he better look in the mirror, call Spurrier, look at his old scrap book that he created as to why he was going to be a great coach! Not another Tommy Bowden who wouldn't make changes.

He’s been telling everyone the whole time

That creating men ready for life is the primary concern and winning is secondary.

Everyone was only content with that as long as we were winning. Which is ironic in a special way.

I find it unusual that anyone would find fault with the Scott-Elliot promotion and their subsequent success. Sure, they had a lot of talent, but they also recruited that talent, and designed/called the plays that lifted Clemson to unprecedented heigths.
It was only after 1/2 of that coaching team left (Scott in December, 2019) did we see ###### in our offensive weaponry. Lawrence carried us through 2020. Through 2020, Clemson was elite. Perhaps Alabama can claim slightly more CFP success, but no one else.
I’m grateful that we hit 10+ wins the last two seasons. I easily see that the record could have been 8-4. It’s understandable that many fans have an annual CFP expectation, so some kind of change is going to be required.

Good day to go biking in the pisgah forest, and spend the evening soaking in a hot tub with no TV around. My brother and kids will enjoy my tickets.

I’ve wasted many hours, and lots of $$ this year watching the garbage we are fielding. **note: I don’t blame the players

Tar Heel here. Unfortunately you are correct. We just lost to 2 straight 4th string QBs. It honestly makes no difference whether Dabo starts DJ, Cade, or one of the cheerleaders. I’m serious here. If Dabo starts DJ everyone will say “wow the kid bounced back in a big way”. If he plays Cade it will be “see, should have started him all along”.

Don’t worry, Tardog, you have us right where you want us. You play the type of football that will 100% keep you in the game, and you will be rewarded at the end because your coaches chose to develop your freshman quarterback, whereas our coaches (stubbornly, arrogantly, STUPIDLY!!) stick with a lost cause- DJU.

It’s true that Drake Maye is starting over an older QB but Maye is actually a redshirt freshman. He sat last year.
