We can't fire any coaches now..........BUT.....changes need

Oct 23, 2021, 8:34 PM

to be made at the end of the season. We're probably going to a crap bowl game in Shreveport. And then again, maybe not. Are we a bowl worthy team? Not sure. I'm already thinking we lose to Wake and probably FSU. Unreal, but only sunshine pumpers on TNet think we're good.

Abundantly clear that the game has passed Elliott by. If you can't win the ACC with a bunch of 4-5 stars, you need to go. Outside hire please.

Streeter. Bye. Major regression at QB. Outside hire please.

Grisham. Hard to believe he's still there but, here we are. Outside hire please. Nice guy but not a WR coach at a P5 program. Somebody remind him that WR's are supposed to block and catch passes.

Caldwell. Retiring. Bye. And Austin is not the guy----do we need any further proof? Yet Dabo will move him to O Line coach. More suck in our future with Austin, but here we are. Outside hire please.

Does Dabo have the guts to make the necessary changes?? Problem is, Dabo is stubborn and don't get me wrong, I like the guy. Will he admit that he's gone off course? We will see.

So you can’t call him stubborn

That was the old, ruthless Dabo. He's changed. Don't believe me? That's all I can tell you.

So why would he have fired Tony Elliott....

Oct 23, 2021, 8:45 PM

After a great season on offense last year?

Pretty clear that TL and ETN covered up a lot of weaknesses. So here we are.

He had no real ties with them, nothing like the current staff.

Nailed it. Therein lies the problem. Insular, inward thinking.

But that's when we were on the ROY bus. Success has changed Dabo. He is not the humble person he used to be. He is almost arrogant as Saban.
But I still like him.

Saban would have already made a change.

Folks this offense is not trotting alone middle of the road bad. It is historically bad. This makes the need for change necessary.

Agree with all this. In the meantime, need to

Oct 23, 2021, 8:37 PM

Scout the intramural fields for a qb. How we dont have a quarterback than can throw a football is mind boggling.

We should try hunter helms. At least give him a shot. At this point, what's the harm. That said, DJ did look different on that last drive. 17 points against a poor Pitt team is bad.

Can't pin all of this on DJ. Elliott abandoning the run, poor play calling, and generally poor effort from the WR/TE room didn't help.

If I were Taisun, I'd transfer. Just silly for him to stick around at this point.

Clemson threw away 21 points today.

Shipley drop of TD pass. Surely this drop (by a RB) is fault of T.Grisham (WR coach).

B.Spector's profoundly stupid roughness penalty (after stopping Pitt on 3rd and long in late Q2) ... which led to Pitt TD. I'm sure that one of our Offense coaches is responsible; help me to identify him.

DJ's unbelievably poor situational awareness on shovel-pass pick-6. I don't think that Archie Manning could coach up DJ quickly enough (i.e., after 6 games of consecutive live action) to get him to take the sack instead of flipping the pass into the defender's belly. (I.e., the last of the 7 point giveaways).
B.Streeter has been given the bad hand of a slow-developing starting QB and a 2nd string QB that is proven ... once again ... to lack the accuracy to be a good D-1 QB.

Over-rating DJ as a ready-to-go QB prospect when he was in HS ... sure, the coaching staff (including Dabo) has to take the blame for this.

But it's not the coaches fault AS FAR AS COACHING that the team once again found a way to lose. The coaches do need to do better at ASSESSING SKILL PLAYERS (as too many of our 'highly recruited' players) are not living up to their HS reputations.

Agree with you to a point. But....

It's abundantly clear that Grisham is not a P5 WR coach. Our Wr's can't catch the ball and can't/won't block. That's a problem.

The Chad had a simple rule: You block, or you don't play. What happened to that???

Why are we having to play true frosh RB's to begin with, especially in critical situations? That's on the staff for sure.

I don't think the problem is the RB room. Real problem is the O Line and WR room.

If we had stuck with Mafah and Shipley pounding the rock, we win. Yet, Elliott pulled his usual crap and abandoned the run.

A 15 second possession before halftime was the last straw for me. Elliott basically gave the game to Pitt by trying to get cute.

If Elliott is gone, the other offensive coaches are too

Oct 23, 2021, 9:16 PM

A new OC would get to choose his own staff and probably everyone is surefire outta there. Maybe (or maybe not) Spiller could be an exception.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: If Elliott is gone, the other offensive coaches are too

Oct 23, 2021, 9:18 PM

RB room is not the problem. Hopefully a new OC would have his say on who the WR and O line coaches would be.

But in reality, I don't think Dabo will let that happen.

TE isn’t going anywhere……

Oct 23, 2021, 9:31 PM

Just got a raise and Dabo called him brilliant a couple of weeks ago. Now he is going to cut him loose? When was the last time you heard Dabo say he was wrong? I’ll wait.

In a perfect world - yes all of the happens but “old” Dabo is not “fat and happy” Dabo of today. Although he finally said we weren’t very good, after assuring us the offense didn’t stink. So…..there is some fluidity.
