UGA's future

Jan 13, 2022, 11:18 PM

The dawgs are losing 7 starters on defense and 4 starters on offense (minus those who have yet to declare). UGA's offense this year has been mediocre and it will probably only continue to get worse. These guys are LSU 2.0.

Have you seen their recruiting? They'll be elite as long as Kirby is the coach. He isn't an idiot like Ed O is.

They might be down a little next year, but there's little chance they become a .500 team like LSU in the future.

They won’t be in the playoffs next season, would have been nice to play them in 22 instead of 21.... it was bad timing on our part....lol

So it was bad timing, was it? Well, using your scenario, maybe we should have not scheduled N.C. State and Pittsburg.
Oh, and I wouldn't bet against them not being back. They still are the best team in the SEC East.

Yeah, as much as I’d love to see UGA eat a big crapburger next year, they are way too stockpiled with 5-stars to drop off like LSU did.

Most importantly, the UGA schedule next year is kind of soft. Only two teams that finished the year ranked in the top 25 #17 Kentucky and #22 Oregon.
Of course they miss Bama and no Texas A&M.

They also aren’t losing anywhere near as much talent as that LSU team did. This UGA team would have gotten smoked by them. Personally, I think that Clemson team beats this year’s UGA team, but impossible to say for sure.

Ga has had a plethora of elite talent for a long time, but haven't reached the mountain top until this year in 41 years. Time will tell if they return, but they should. It's never been a lack of great talented players in Athens. It's always been a problem of getting the performance from all that talent.

Recruiting is not, and never has been, UGA's issue.***

Wish I could say the same, I’m just tired of dawgs claiming that they are the next Alabama. They’re going to be humbled next year.

Their schedule sets up nicely again for them to run it but I think bama will resemble what you would expect next year and I don’t see them even being competitive in the sec champ game … the east is pretty horrible

They use the transfer portal well and keep elite talent coming in, no drop off in sight unless they have injuries to several key players.

Offense mediocre? Didn't they average in the high 30's?

Re: UGA's future

Jan 14, 2022, 9:16 AM

You’ve got to remember that they did not face that much competition. The highest ranked team they beat (minus Bama and Meechigan) was us, and they only scored 10. Their offense got rattled in the SEC championship, and the score would be a lot more closer in the natty if it wasn’t for the pick six.

Re: UGA's future

Jan 14, 2022, 11:10 AM

And, their offense only scored a field goal and an extra point in that game. I'll grant that due to our sorry offensive performance we gave their offense more opportunities, and our defense was spent by the end of the game, and maybe they could've scored at the end, but who knows? That said, I expect them to garner much praise and publicity from the media all year. I just hope we can get a QB who can perform well, and an OL that can actually block like they seemed to do much better the last couple of games.

Re: UGA's future

Unfortunately they will be a top ten team for a while. I would give them a 50% chance on making the playoffs next year.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

not even close.....

Jan 14, 2022, 8:34 AM

UGA does a really good job of playing the portal game and now they can play NIL game. Their recruiting is ELITE and they're the only "game in town" in the state of Georgia. They will be in the mix for the foreseeable future............the NIL will only help separate them from the "ROY bus" pack of programs even more.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You are right about them owning the State of Georgia.

Jan 14, 2022, 10:06 AM

Especially in recent years, the NERDS from the Georgia Institute of Technology have been a really weak second fiddle. Even moreso than the Coots in the State of South Carolina, and that's saying something!

Georgia was the best team in the country this year and with their coaching, facilities and recruiting they will stay at least in the top 10 for years and years to come just like Alabama.

Not a chance.

Jan 14, 2022, 3:35 PM

They have to many studs. They’ve stacked #1 or #2 recruiting classes together for years and they’re active in the transfer portal.

Not to mention their schedule. No way they’re 500 next year. They’ll win at least 9 games but sadly I believe that UGA will become the next dynasty. We had a chance winning 2 and we’re still in the realm of possibility if we can return to the playoffs again but Saban can’t coach forever and I believe Georgia will be the next Alabama. They’ll win 5 or 6 under Kirby in the next 10-15 years.

I hope I’m wrong!

Re: UGA's future

Jan 14, 2022, 3:56 PM

As long as Kirby as at UGA, they're going to be very good. His recruiting is outstanding. They have a nasty defense every year. And their "bad years" will probably be 10-2 or 9-3. Probably the thing that will determine how far they go year-in and year-out is their offense. His defense will always be tough to score on.

I don't know how often they will win the SEC or the CFP. But they will be in the mix alot. This won't be like LSU from 2019. LSU was about one player, Joe Burrow. UGA has a stronger foundation than that LSU team.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Smitty,

Jan 14, 2022, 4:17 PM

Have to disagree on LSU’s identity that year. They were LOADED well beyond their transfer QB and on both sides of the ball.

It was the best team money could buy. Ask O’Dell.

UGA, if running a clean program, will be good next year and beyond, but I don’t think they are running a clean program.

I count way more than 7 being gone off of their defense . Is Nolan Smith coming back ?

Outside of that their schedule looks like a nice setup for 12-0 if the get past Oregon
