look it up. He said that in response to an incident where a couple dozen Black Panthers with loaded guns rushed into the California Legislation in opposition to gun control. The article I saw the quote in (the Gettysburg Times, May 3, 1967) said in the next sentence: “[Reagan] agreed, however, with the group’s contention they have the right to bear arms.”

Crazy. I feel like if a couple dozen black panther busted into a state legislature with unholstered loaded guns today there would be a LOT of dead people very quickly.

Big time proponent of the NRA and celebrated by the gun lobby. However after leaving office, he embraced and helped push forward the Brady Law (banning assault style weapons).

Seems reasonable.
