FGF idiot thread of the day

Dec 23, 2015, 9:57 AM

https://southcarolina.forums.rivals.com/threads/dabo-vs-muschamp.113276/

Who will be more successful over the next 5 years? Comparing coaches has always been intriguing to me. I'm talking about everything from wins/losses, recruiting, building/maintaining a standard of excellence, etc. Who is a more knowledgable coach? Who would you rather have as a program leader? I am leaning a little towards Muschamp because I think he probably knows the game better and he seems like an incredibly hard worker. Any thoughts?

So, a coach that failed at Florida is supposed succeed at USuC ?

I used to love going through their page, laughing at their delusion and pain. However I've found myself not really caring lately. I opened the link, rolled my eyes and sighed. Maybe it's because they're a 3 win team talking smack about an undefeated, #1 ranked team. Maybe it's because literally nothing they say is grounded in reality. Either way, I don't really care. Not trying to jump on your post and say don't post about them, I've posted many times about them. It's just their delusion has gotten worse and it's almost annoying.

Muschamp might know defense better than Dabo

Dec 23, 2015, 10:32 AM

but his track record is that he sacrifices offense for defense. Recruits that way, calls games that way etc. Heck he wanted to make Derrick Henry a linebacker. That aint the recipe for a head coach.

Its the flip side of the same coin of Chad Morris at SMU.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Muschamp might know defense better than Dabo

Dec 23, 2015, 10:39 AM

that's even debatable. He led Auburn to 13th ranked defense in the SEC this season. Dabo had the insight to hire Venables. Not only Venables but Hobby, Brooks, Reed. Dabo put that defensive staff together, and as far as I am concerned they are the best defensive staff in college football

Meanwhile Boom will be struggling to get to 8 wins on a good year

Dabo already has a program performing at an elite level and competes in an easier conference. I have no doubt Dabo will have more wins and conference titles than Muschamp.

Dec 23, 2015, 11:28 AM [ in reply to Re: trying to argue Boom will be better than Dabo in 5 years is too. ]

Muscrap will be darn lucky to win five games next year! Because of personnel losses I predict another losing season in 2017. I honestly do not see Boom getting great recruits until he has at least one winning season at USuck. Even the ESPIN "talking heads" acknowledge Dabo's success in making Clemson an elite program! What makes USC fans think he won't continue building his program.

Schedule wise the SEC east is no better right now than many conferences including the ACC. If Muscrap can't win at UF what makes chicken fans think his "talents" will produce in Cola., especially as USC was only somewhat successful with two HOF coaches. Even Holtz and OBS were only able to get to a single SEC championship in over a decade! Those who claim he has learned his lessons need only to look at his tirade at Allbarn this season to get a sense of who he remains. One would have been wise to have drawn conclusions before hiring him in the first place. Only time will tell.

Competes in an easier conference? I'm sorry - can you tell me what team has been the equivalent of FSU in the SEC East for the last several years? And there are legit arguments to be made about other SEC-E teams vs. ACC-Atlantic teams. The SEC-E has been mediocre at best for several years now.

SC is in the SEC East, there is 1 Team in the Top 25 AP Poll from your side of the League. #19 Florida.
SC's permanent opponent from the West is aTm, they are unranked.

Clemson is in the ACC Atlantic, there are 2 Teams in the Top 10 of the AP Poll from our side of the League. #1 Clemson and #9 FSU.
GT is our permanent opponent from the Coastal, they are unranked.

The talent on the Auburn defense is upper deck , and that's not debatable . They have recruited as well as anybody here recently ...so let's all muse at the idea that Muscan't didn't get anything out of those players ...or that he is not the godsend that you Dirtpeckers believe that he'll be.
Jacksonville State ( The real Gamekocks) took them to overtime , at home ...largely in part because the Aubie defense couldn't stop their weak , Div 2 scheme .

Look I'm not going to argue with you if you're really ignorant enough to argue last year at Auburn means Muschamp can't coach defense.

His defenses:
2009- 3
2010- 6
2011- 8
2012- 5
2013- 8
2014- 15

Carry on if you wish. But it's such an absurd argument I'm not going to waste my time.

Re: Muschamp might know defense better than Dabo

Dec 23, 2015, 1:50 PM

Wasn't his Auburn D like 90th?
Anyway, he can definitely coach D. No question there. I just wonder if he can get out of his own way with offense.
My prediction for scar is a losing season next year, and 7-8 wins in 2017. After that it depends on how muschamp has grown as a coach. Either they can't break through 7-9 wins or they have 10-11 win seasons.

I will leave this thought though: how did UF go from terrible to 11 wins with the players muschamp recruited but then didn't coach. To me, that means they didn't buy into his idea or his ideas just didn't work.
Time till tell! :)

Re: Muschamp might know defense better than Dabo

Dec 23, 2015, 1:54 PM

Can't edit so sorry about double post
Just looked it up and yes auburn was 90th in total D (good guess Chucktown).
And UF was 6th this year (one ahead of Clemson). This is further support for my claim outlined above.
Then again dabo supposedly couldn't coach and only recruit. So who knows.

Re: Muschamp might know defense better than Dabo

Dec 23, 2015, 1:58 PM [ in reply to Re: Muschamp might know defense better than Dabo ]

Most likely he was fired too early.

They went from 4-8 in 2013 to 7-5(would have been 8-5 if one of their games wasn't rained out) in 2014. That's positive progression.

Seems pretty reasonable they could have gone 4-8, 7-5 to 10-3 under Muschamp. Florida won on their defense. McElwain didn't come in and revolutionize their offense.

Good points.
Muschamp always confused me at UF. He went from 7 wins to 11 to 4 to 7. No clear evidence of progression or regression. He also got a new OC in year 4 which probably didn't help.
But you're right, their offense was still terrible this year.

I find all their ranting and feelings of superiority as quite foolish. Clemson started out as a very small land grant college and when we did start a football team as a small military college our tradition and beating them started immediately. Considering all of our games had to be played in the armpit of SC and we still maintained the lead in our rivalry says a lot. In comparison Clemson today is still a small university. But we have a higher caliber of students and athletes. Clemson doesn't take anything for granted but in each step aspire to become better in all aspects of college life whether it be a student studying engineering or an athlete, the Best is the standard. SC will never be more than their previous 120 year history has shown
