Why the hate on Clowney ?

This kid almost chose Clemson as I recall and his mother was really on board. I have seen him interviewed and he seems like a very likable kid. He is a monster at his position and likely the No.1 pick in the upcoming NFL draft. I still cringe when I see him hit Vincent in the bowl game. I am no Michigan fan by a long shot but I felt sorry for Vincent. I just don't see any reason to hate this kid just because he plays for your rival. Rival players should be respected for their abilities.....not hated. I never hated the opposing pitchers or hitters we played and I am sure you team athletes feel the same way. Most were friends in high school and remain friends today. It's a different thing when you are an athlete playing the game rather than a fan on the sidelines. Trust me...I know.

Goldencoot....what is that suppose to mean ? This kid is the most talked about player in the nation and I just wondered why he was hated by so many on here. I watched Manti go through so much last year. People can be cruel and that should never be a part of the game. I just say leave the kids alone. Manti made a mistake and I'll defend him or any other player that is trashed for no reason. If Clowney did something I don't know about then tell me. It's not enough "because he plays for our rival".

until...I ask a question? Wow, I was starting to enjoy the board and then this. I can only post for a couple of minutes here and there, but I am not trying to offend anyone. I will regress from asking questions if it's going to offend someone. I don't understand it but I was really looking forward to the ACC and mostly Clemson....I will go now but thanks anyway.

understand. If you got "Clowney" love go to FGF and talk with the dirtpeckers...they love them some Clowney.
If you want to talk football there are many on here that will engage you, so maybe you can try again. If you do, I suggest not showing any love for any of the dirtpeckers, the Ol' Ball Sack, or for Loose Bolts.

Now imagine that you didn't have several rivalries to put your sports hatred on. All your dislike for So Cal, Mich State, Navy, Michigan, was put into one team (and all their hatred to you was combined).
Now imagine this rival was all of a sudden only 2 hours away from you. And you had to deal with them year in and year out. Then, you lose to this team several years in a row. The worst of their fanbase get cocky, and constantly do things to irk you.
Now this kid, who was 50-50 on you, selects this mega-rival. Then he proceeds to make said rival into a MUCH better team, practically on his own. And every time ND is mentioned at another chance in the limelight of the national title contention, they mention that this rival stands in the way at the end of the year. Then they say this player will be one of the reason you won't be favored.
That is why no one here likes Clowney. Because SCar is THE rival of Clemson, and why anyone that cheers for a school with several "main" rivals will never understand the hatred in this state.

take all of this and add up the fact that this kid couldn't get accepted into clemson, and usuc INVENTS an learning disability (that wasn't ever diagnosed in hs), so he could be and stay eligible, while uh, attending, usuc.

ND has great rivalries with SoCal and Michigan. The media likes to pump them up because they are "national" rivalries. But when the game is over, you seldom run across each other. With an in-state rivalry, you run across the "other guys" every day...EVERY day...every #### day. I just looked out my window at work and saw three Gamecock t-shirts on the backs of the road crew cleaning the ditches. Secondly, there is animosity from the founding of Clemson. The USoCarolina crowd didn't want Clemson University to be established. That animosity has continued and spills over to the players sometimes. Thirdly, there's some doubt about the sincerity of his interest in Clemson. Some think he was toying with us. Fourthly, the players probably don't hate him, just the folks who have been around the rivalry a fairly long while. While I don't hate him (and I've been around a while), I wouldn't pee on Steve Spurrier if he were on fire.

Clowney is the bet thing the gamecocks have had since George Rodgers. This is very new to us Clemson fans. Naturally, the gamecocks are supposed to suck. Now that they don't, we take every opportunity to expose the kids problems such as grades, the money he receives, and the secret love life of Clowney and Spurrier (will air on the SEC Network, right after The Forbiddon love of Saban and McCarron). Plus, most respect for their kind was lost after all of Spirriers classless comments. Spurrier even attacked Dabo after his kind words after Lattinore's injury. They have no respect for us. I try to respect them, but it neve seems to work.

He's the best player on our rival. He rejected an opportunity to come to Clemson and has hurt our program for doing so. He probably wasn't academically qualified to come and should be teased for his 900 SAT score. I think it's all in good fun.

It goes both ways. You have so much respect until someone doesn't have it for your team. I think Clowney is incredibly talented and probably THE best player in the nation. (Call me a COOT if you want, it's true) But when your rival sits there and calls your players "Sammy Potkins" and says he stole Howard's Rock to smoke it and all of the nicknames and low blows like "DeAndre Dropkins" (even though he dropped like 3 passes in his whole Clemson career) and talking junk about Tajh Boyd and anyone else you can't help but dish it back. I try to never hate on a college kid on a personal level, hate his game, hate his team, whatever, but try not to make it personal. They are KIDS after all. I'm in college too and if I were playing I wouldn't want to hear smack talk form a bunch of 40 year old washed up rival fans.
When they go on to the NFL or MLB or whatever I don't root against them anymore, especially the kids that are from the state of South Carolina. DJ Swearinger is a punk for the hit and taunt he did to Ellington in the game last fall but I won't be rooting against him in the NFL. Same goes for Devin Taylor or Sam Montgomery or Cordarrelle Patterson.
