Trent Pearman

Apr 15, 2022, 2:29 PM

What’s everybody’s take on Trent Pearman and how he will fit in the QB room? Daniel HS undefeated maxpreps strength of schedule rating in SC was only a +13.5 compared to Cade’s +37.9 versus Texas competition. Preferred walk-on at Clemson and Alabama but not ranked on any recruiting service and no stars given. Is it his size? Is it recruiters and scouts already knew he would he attending Clemson being that his dad was on staff and his best friend is Dabo’s son? Is he that good? What’s the story on this kid? Is he destined to be a coach and he will be groomed in the system then transfer away to a Charleston Southern or App State for a year to perform then return as a grad assistant? How does he compare to Vizzina?

I don't think there is any similarities between him and Vizz, if so, he would have been ranked.

I think he will fit well. He has been around football his whole life, so I imagine he has a high FB IQ and is obviously a winner. Not sure why he is not rated, I watched some of his highlights on signing day and was impressed with what I saw. I can only guess it is partly due to his slight build. He is listed at 6'2" 170, so he will need to add about 20 lbs which I am sure he will over the next 2 years.

Tyler Venables was a jam up QB at Daniel as well (check his numbers out) and they moved him to DB. Time will tell.

I saw him in person several games. Here is my take...

SC Gatorade Player of the year.
He is an excellent game manager. He has a rifle of an arm. Has adequate mobility for high school level that would not translate to college level. He was a very accurate passer but a lot of his passing yards came from having the leading receiver in the state last year 2020 Season (Eli Merck). He and Eli had great chemistry. Eli highpoints the ball (like a slightly slower DeAndre Hopkins).
Pearman's top end at Clemson would be a Chase Bryce kind of role. Like Chase Bryce he could transfer and start for another school. Since he's 6'2" 170 it might be a place like Lenoir Rhyne, App State, Furman, etc. If he played somewhere with an awesome O-line he could play at a place like a Wake-Forest and do fine until he ran into the Clemson D-line.

In my opinion, most fans do not understand the value in someone like him who could be used all over the scout team to get our starters ready each week. You've got to have kids like him who are All-in to getting their brains beat in by the likes of Bryan Bresee, Myles Murphy and Co, with the understanding that all you are getting out of it is a D-1 experience resume with a possible coaching future.

He may just hold for snaps for four years and never drop a snap, like Will Swinney, but some see no value in doing that! I do and I don't care whose kid they are!

PS: Homer 81 .... your post was good and asked great question, so my post isn't questioning your motive for asking the question!

It would make more sense to play somewhere else 3 years and then transfer to Clemson to my way of thinking. If transfer was in the thought process.

I think he is a great addition to the team as a PWO. Fine young man by all accounts. We will see if he can carve out a roll at CU. Maybe as a holder or just as a leader in the QB room. Who knows, he may bloom and become more than those roles.
