To offer this late, our Tigers had to have received word he's pretty darn interested.
Make a lifetime decision...come to Clemson "big guy".

Ink this guy tomorrow. Be a nice feather for Mickey and Wes along with Bates to put in their first month cap.

He delayed his all-star game announcement until after taking visits in January. We must have a realistic shot.

CURIOUS???

Dec 25, 2021, 5:53 PM

…I know we need some dudes at this position, but curious why we wouldn’t have offered a 4-star like this earlier in the ball game??? ….unless he didn’t check all the preferred boxes for the Clemson standard?

We don't really need a DT unless someone is leaving or Bresee needs to play more on the outside. We only offered a few players at DT because they were elite.

So we don't have a single D lineman in the class (no, I don't count Lawson at 215 lbs.) and we don't need one? Tre Williams and Capehart have been on the team 2 years and are still a work in progress. Most Freshman will not play right away so yeah I think we need a body now instead of wondering what happened if Davis leaves for the draft and someone gets hurt. Wouldn't mind us moving up from the #37 recruiting ranking either where we currently reside in Rivals. Shouldn't hurt too badly next year but in 23? Painful to consider.

Tre Williams was a warrior this year

Exactly. Tre Williams is a stud! Started and made a difference with the injuries.

Ok, I guess you missed the point. Williams played 233 snaps and was credited with 13 tackles for the year of which 5 where solo tackles. Can I repeat that? 13 tackles in a season. Keith Adams had 27 tackles in a game. That's warrior territory. I thought Tre did fine. He's in his second year. Is he Brian Bresee? Is he Tyler Davis? Is he Myles Murphy? No, he is not. He was not an impact player as a freshman like the three mentioned and it has taken him some time (as it normally does). And what about Capehart? I have no problem whatsoever with Tre Williams and look forward to continued improvement. Point is that when he was recruited with Capehart they were touted as immediate bookend impact tackles. It seldom works out that way and hence my comment that we need tackles committed and developing now, not at some later date when an injury or portal move leaves us with our pants around our ankles hoping a true freshman can step in. I'm still having nightmares regarding some of the players that were forced into action late this year. Let's get the holes plugged before they open an get back to best is the standard. Go Tigers and beat the Hawkeyes.

Speaking of needs. This looks like a pretty good list. I know this talks about Miami but beyond 1, it doesn't appear we're pursuing any. Brent is pursuing several. Whether DL, OL center esp, CB, LB, we could use talent to develop to fill holes. Idc if it's HS or portal. And don't use the portal as only guys who want to start. Every guy wants to start. That doesn't stop Bama, OSU, Mich, okl, etc

Thank you for the correction. These mid tier big 10 teams are not ones I follow and I have been confusing those two for about 50 years.

Tre Williams job is to eat blocks and require double teams so that linebackers like Keith Adam’s can make tackles. You don’t judge a player at his position by tackles alone. Bad illustration.

Shockingly, I understand the basic roles that each position requires. Your explanation is spot on. The linebacker's role is to make the tackles. When we get into "stud" and "warrior" adjectives I tend to take a step back and simply give an example of a player that exemplifies that. To make a better comparison I will choose Christian Wilkins. He averaged 83 tackles per season at DT. Yes he saw double teams. In two seasons Tre has averaged less than 10 tackles per year. Has he been hurt? Yes, and most are playing hurt to some degree. That was my point. Be it early departure for the NFL, injuries, portal, or just didn't pan out, we need some DL's in the class for depth. Bring up a players name on the board along with their stats and it becomes a personal attack. Hope Tre is a first Team All American his final two years. We still need a DL in this class.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Did you miss the part where he's having 3

Dec 26, 2021, 7:00 AM [ in reply to Re: Tre Williams was a warrior this year ]

separate surgeries this off season to deal with injuries he played through this year? I'd call that a warrior.

And to compare tackles by a DT to tackles by a LB is just dumb. Check out Dexter Lawrence's tackle numbers.

By all means being in guys to develop, but few elite DT's come in to develop. Capehart has been hurt to the point of rarely being able to play. I think he had Covid this year as well. Got out of a shape.

Which is why this may be an inkling Davis is considering the draft. Because there wont be much PT available behind Breese, Davis, Ruke and Williams. Then Page, Reuben, Capehart.

If he comes in he likely redshirts, which I'd be fine with. Plenty of PT available in 2023

We missed on Travis Shaw so we did want a DL in 2022

Dec 25, 2021, 8:34 PM [ in reply to CURIOUS??? ]

UNC finally took a top North Carolina player from us.

I guess we still want/need big DL this cycle if we can get one.
