Alabama has more players enter Transfer portal than Clemson

Dec 12, 2021, 7:34 AM

Many who are concerned about the changes impacting Clemson football include the # of transfer portal kids as part of the evidence that there is trouble in Tiger town. So far the players who have left are not a result of staff changes but typical choices being made in every program in the country.

Kids leave because they have been stars their whole lives and suddenly find themselves not playing. Most of the time it’s not a good decision. The portal may benefit some kids but many are loosing scholarships and jeopardizing what should be their priority- getting a degree.

For every one who benefits like Burrow there are 10 who struggle to land a scholarship, many are forced to walk on somewhere. The NCAA may think it’s a benefit for the players but it’s a bad policy that should be revised.

Yes it’s a threat to Clemsons way of doing things but I believe Dabos approach may still prove to be the healthiest and most effective. The stats are still developing and it will be interesting to see by team how many players leave. It would seem Higher rated recruiting classes should result in higher numbers of transfers eventually. One thing is clear all programs are being impacted and most are not accepting as many as they are loosing.

I’m happy Lyn J has landed at WV and Tchio is going to Vanderbilt, hope it works out for them better then it did for Feister. Wonder if Brice has any regrets? Imagine having him this year at Clemson.

I’m happy for the players that are able to move on and possibly see immediate playing time. My only concern is our numbers. We seem and I could be off base but well below the 85 number. That seemed to be magnified this year especially at WR with so many injuries. Also the first in many years that I can remember that we played without a true slot receiver.

You're correct. It's our numbers. Not that Bama has more. They take full classes and hence should have more attrition.

We now have 59 scholly players 12 commits. But the new article should clarify all the numbers. Bottom line we either sign more or use portal more. Personally, I'd rather sign more.

The over signing philosophy will need to change for sure. Just be straight up and honest about it with the kids. Honestly, I would sign 27 to this class.

Let’s not forget we have had some 2 and 3 star players turn out to be some of the best Clemson has had.

I am not sure how to go about making the portal fair and efficient for the players and teams. I think we need to change it to where if you are on the roster to start the season. You cannot opt out that season. May need to adjust the red shirt rule.

"I love this place, I've got a spot already picked out where I want 'em to put me when I die - up there on that ole hill near the stadium. I want to be there so I can hear all them people cheering my Tigers on Saturdays; then I won't have to go Heaven; I'll already be there."- Frank Howard

I would like to see the breakdown on the numbers. I doubt bama has more go into the portal THIS year, than we have.

Interesting insight, but also agree with some that we could slightly increase our recruiting classes. I do think departures helped our RB board this year by giving more focus to Shipley Pace and Mafah.

Maybe we could get a few of these bama kids to portal on over here.

Alabama had 10 scholarship players transfer out in 2021. Eight went to other schools. 2 still in portal. They had 2 non scholarship players transfer and one still in portal. Added one from portal. Very similar numbers to Clemson.

I don't think people are that concerned about losing most of the guys we've lost in the portal. I think the fact we have the smallest class in who knows how long coming in to replace them that is the concern. We struggled with fielding a healthy team all season and next year currently looks like it will be much worse.

We have to get about 3-4 key position players from transfer portal in order to fill those positions with veteran players. If you dont you have gaps like we did this past season on the offensive line. Now we need receivers, CB’s, & offensive line.
Anybody id some from the transfer portal?

Transfer portal affects all teams, not just Clemson.

We will be fine.

Your very optimistic, if we can’t keep our WR, we may see our star incoming QB second guess his commitment

I will admit, I can't figure out the AJou transfer...

Dec 12, 2021, 10:18 AM

especially with Cade Klubnik coming in. I think we will finally see Dabo tap into the portal this coming year to fill some spots vacated this season. Time will tell. We lose some to the protal and hopefully will gain some good ones from the portal.

Younger guys and potentially Walk-ons based on how the season worked out. 2 more highly rated receivers coming in. It hurts from a depth perspective especially the first 3/4s of next year when most FR can’t contribute (at least based on how we bring them along). We can’t afford injuries next year. We just have to hope Ngata can stay healthy and he and both Collins stay put. We have Spector, Taylor and 2 FR to hopefully work in some. Need some leads to get the young guys some work.TE, RB looking good. OL improved greatly toward the end and should be much better getting the 3-4 guys off the shelf. Center and QB are our biggest issue on O as long as we hold on to everyone else. More concerned about DL depth - not necessarily for this year but the year after. Our main guys will be gone after this year. We’re about to follow up a low recruiting # year DL wise with zero studs on the DL. That can’t happen and expect to be championship contenders in a couple of years. We might be able to outscore some teams but we won’t have a CFP caliber team if we don’t address the gap that is forming there.
