Tough day for Clemson fans.

Happy for Brent, but concerned for Clemson. (I have no doubt that is what Dabo is thinking as well.)
So many questions. Who is gonna replace him? Will it be from within? Will it be an established DC? Will it be an up and comer no one has ever heard of? How many recruits will decommit? Brent was important, but is he replaceable? Etc. etc.
Fear of the unknown is common.
I have no idea what Dabo's plan is. All I am sure of is that he has a plan. I have no idea if it will work. No one does.
All I can tell you is I went through something similar 20 years ago when Mark Richt left FSU as long time OC (during our dynasty years in the 90s) to become HC at UGA. I had a higher opinion of him than almost any FSU fan. Everybody loved Mickey Andrews, so anytime we lost a game, Richt was the whipping boy. (No one would dare blame Mickey or Bobby.) On our message board I had been dubbed the "Richt apologist." I was extremely concerned over the loss.
Well, Bobby decided to promote from within (way within) and he promoted Jeff Bowden (his son) from WR to OC. The rest is history. The dynasty was over. A few short years later Jeff resigned after losing to Wake 30-0.
I'm not predicting that will happen at Clemson. I certainly hope it doesn't. Just saying I can see why any Clemson fan, including me, would be concerned. Happy for Brent, but concerned about Clemson.
All I know to do now is "Trust Dabo."

We had an incredible run. I love our program.

But the future will be more like Danny in the 80's after 1981 than like Clemson from 2016-2019. We can't reasonably expect an insane run like that to last forever.
We will still be in the hunt for playoffs half/most years, I think/hope.

The reason the 1980's run ended was very simple, Danny was fired.

just made the final four in men's soccer last night.
Also your women's team is playing for a national title on Monday night. I have to say I hope BYU gets the better of y'all and wins it.

No one knows how this will affect Clemson. Dabo rebuilt Clemson's program and IF it needs rebuilding, he can do it again. At this point, all of the speculation needs to be over so that we can get replacements in and stabilize the program.

yep I remember his son Jeff was not the right move for y'all, but Dabo hopefully will not make the decisions based on emotional ties. I believe he will make the right decision for Clemson.

I mean this was inevitable. And I'm about 99.9% certain we won't sink to the level of FSU, SC, and other mid-level programs. Highly touted players will still be here and good coaches will be put in place. We ain't got time for dumpster fires here.

Dabo has faced some inflection points and passed all of them

so far. Dabo's first real inflection point was realizing he needed to ditch the leftover Rob Spence offense and hire Chad Morris. Second inflection point was firing Steele and hiring Venables. Third inflection point was promoting Scott/Elliott to co-offensive coordinators when Morris left. Some would say the fourth inflection point was when Jeff Scott left but I don't think that is the case - that was just a continuation of the status quo as Elliott just took the full reigns of the job he was already doing.
Replacing Venables will be Dabo's fourth inflection point and maybe his most important one to date. He's had a good track record so far so I'm trying to be optimistic about his plan - which I believe to be promoting a current position coach to DC. The good thing is that if BV does leave, we have a lot of experience and incredible talent on already high performing defense that won't just disappear as some of the chicken little's on this board fuss about.

I imagine Brent and Dabo probably discussed who the best replacement was. Or Brent might have given Dabo a head's up and he's been praying about the right man for the job for a while now. Either way, it's been a heck of a year for CU football. I'm sure Dabo's got a plan and I can hardly wait to see it!
