Are “Stairway to Heaven”, “Hotel California”, “Smoke of the Water” really rock and roll songs? “Stairway to Heaven” is an anthem. It really isn’t rock and roll.
Someone needs to define what rock and roll is if we want to have an accurate list.

Different strokes for different generations. I appreciate and listen to a lot of music before my time. Rock evolved out of the blues, C&W, jazz and who knows what else. Perfect representation of the USofA. Rock on and Go Tigers!

Agree. "Rock and Roll"? I don't recognize 95% of the songs you good folks have listed. I did grow up way back when listening to "rock and roll". I did a little searching online, and saw mentioned that the years considered true "rock and roll" lasted from the mid-1950s (starting with Bill Haley's 1954 "Rock Around the Clock") until the mid-1960's. At that point, music was mostly considerd to be "rock" in nature.

Folks, I have read your lists and find many worthy candidates but no one has listed "Knights In White Satin" by the Moody Blues. Some may say it has to much orchestra but the same could be said of "Bohemian Rhapsody". At least no one suggested Mrs. Miller.

I tried sober at work, now with a nice mellow buzz and this is impossible. I live (outside CFB and a good movie or two) on music. Listening to The Outlaws right now. Depends on my mood and I’ll wait for the top 100 😉.
