Top 5 Moments in Brownell Era

Feb 20, 2022, 12:31 PM

Not necessarily in this order…

World Champions. Boom. Could almost be a mic drop with this one. No prior coach has come close to this accomplishment, in any sport.

Sweet 16 run. Getting to a second weekend in the NCAA tournament was superb. With a 20-year gap prior, having Gabe DeVoe finally blossom his last year like he did and lead our charge there offered a lot of hope for what we could be transitioning into finally after all of that prior wheel spinning.

Winning @ Chapel Hill. Finally ending the longest O-fer streak in sports history was a glorious moment. I could say it was the new orange and purple argyle socks I busted out for that one, but Brad deserves his due there. He stands alone.

First coach to end the season with a win in over 80 years. Yes, you have to go back to the 1930’s at least to find another Clemson basketball team that didn’t end their season with a loss. Brad accomplished this in 2020 by winning an ACC tournament game then having the rest of the season canceled due to Covid prior to our game with FSU. Suck on that one, coaching posers.

Ending our NCAA tourney losing streak. What a great start to Brad’s tenure here, not only making the NCAA tournament in his first year, but posting our first win after three one-and-dones prior. Sure it was a play-in game to reach the 64 number, but it was a win and offered high expectations to what lay ahead.

So twelve years in we have all of this to celebrate. Imagine what the next twelve may bring.

Go Tigers.

Getting in Roy Williams face and telling him not to talk to our players is another.

Yeah, I think you’re right. Either way it’s probably number 5.

The top three are really good accomplishments. Now if he can just recruit better, and to retain the good ones he does recruit, an win his share of good games...........

And also called a timeout with no timeouts left in a loss to Gardnet-Webb.

And put 6 man on the court in a loss to West Virginia.

And made the wrong substitution in a loss to Syracyuse.

And,and, and...

I think NC Tigs might cry!

Can you name any accomplishments by your beloved OP?

I can name a few:

finishing the season ranked 20-25 3 times

Losing to chapel hill in the ACC championship game.

With all the talent you claimed OP had, why doesn't he have more accomplishments?

Your #4 is my #1:

"First coach to end the season with a win in over 80 years. Yes, you have to go back to the 1930’s at least to find another Clemson basketball team that didn’t end their season with a loss. Brad accomplished this in 2020 by winning an ACC tournament game then having the rest of the season canceled due to Covid prior to our game with FSU."

Reminds me of a montage song from the original Karate Kid movie:

There's actually more than 5

Last season we beat a record 8 NCAA teams during the regular season which was a school record

The best is yet to come, hopefully at season's end***

Not sure if serious about World Champions.

Feb 20, 2022, 7:01 PM

That tournament had mediocre teams from all the countries represented, U.S. included.

A world championship with a mediocre team against mediocre teams is still a world championship even though it is probably mediocre.
