Too bad about Dye. I was thinking he was going to be the

Feb 21, 2014, 6:22 PM

#1 back on the depth chart heading to Athens. I am not thrilled with DJ Howard, although he has impressed at times. He just doesn't seem to have the whole package. As for the guy from Arkansas, he was good at times, but I don't see him carrying the load. I was hoping Dye would finallly be that big and fast back like a Todd Gurley.

What do you think the running back depth chart will look like?

Well, we just signed a work horse in Adam Choice.

I am a fan of choice as well, but he will have to make a bit of a transition from QB to Rb.

Really, 828Tiger? Way to be a ###### for no reason at all. Shows a lot about your character when you make fun of someone just because they momentarily may have forgotten someone's name. Seeing as Clemson81to85 is a "pride-leader", and you and I haven't even broken 200, I'd willing to wager that pretty much everything he adds is of infinitely more value than anything you've got.

Have some respect. Stop picking fights for no reason. We all root for the SAME team dude.

Gallman was likely going to enter Athens atop the depth chart anyways.

Davidson is a legitimate 2-2 1/2 deep guy at RB with or without Dye.

Brooks is also a top 2-3 deep guy.

We essentially had four legitimate 2-deep guys before this injury - Now we have three.

Then throw in this guy who may end up with the most carries out of all our RBs on the season come January 2015.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4IS3a-ADmSI&app=desktop

No worries. DJ Howard wasn't in the three deep last year, why would he be this year? We red-shirted better guys because he was there to provide that fourth string depth, much like he'll do again this year.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Completely forgot about Choice. Wow that's a scary backfield

in our offense, and I thought Dye was it. Unfortunately, he was injured in September of his high school senior year (2012) and has not been well since. It is really a downer for Tyshon and the Tigers, but sometimes it is just not in the cards. I do wish him a full recovery.

Dye looks to be pretty talented. The update sounds like he could be healthy by the fall. Maybe he will still get to contribute. Hate it for Dye.

I know an Achilles can be pretty serious. The update sounds optimistic. Is that a normal recovery time for that injury?

Learn the team. If you don't know Zack Brooks

Feb 21, 2014, 7:18 PM

Then you clearly aren't a Clemson fan. If you don't know the names of our key players, don't expect to be taken seriously. His lack of late-season productivity was due to a nagging injury, which was mentioned throughout the year several times. That's why I think that one guy from Grayson and that other guy from right down the road near Clemson will lock down the backfield. Know what I'm saying'?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

LOL, Brooks is a great utility back but he is not

Feb 21, 2014, 7:24 PM

going to carry the offense. He lacks the speed to get to the LB level. He just does not have the speed needed to be productive at this level.

Re: LOL, Brooks is a great utility back but he is not

I never understood his recruitment. Good athlete, very versatile, but not a game changer.

Re: LOL, Brooks is a great utility back but he is not

Feb 21, 2014, 11:01 PM

I think if Brooks can put on 10 to 12pds of muscle and maintain his speed he can be a very powerful back who can develop into that workhorse type back if he can or able to get the numbers of carries early in the season, or if he able to develop some durability by lots of touches. I favorable the Gallman then Davidson followed by Brooks. I like to see where Adams and CJ Fuller productivity will be this coming fall. Both backs have good vision and read the holes well. Don't even count out Oglesby. This guy has pure speed. There should be a showdown for playing time on and off the field this winter, spring, summer, and fall. Can't wait to see how this competition plays out as well. Maybe this will give Dye time to transform and reconstruct his entire body.

Raymond Preister "lacked speed" ...

Feb 22, 2014, 9:03 AM [ in reply to LOL, Brooks is a great utility back but he is not ]

But honestly, I don't see lack of speed as being a problem for Brooks ... holding on to the ball is his biggest challenge. And an issue that is easy to overcome.

Clemson games since 1971 and graduated from Clemson in 1985. I was at the Orange Bowl win ove Nebraska and saw every Clemson-South Carolina game from 1972 through 2008. My family would drive from the low-country to every home game, a 4 1/2 hour drive.

I drew a blank on Brooks' name when I made the post and didn't have time to look it up because I was heading out the door. ####, people like you just look for a reason to jump all over somebody. People can really beome a simple piece of crap when they are on the internet.

Good on ya Clemson81to85!!! That's what I'm talking about! On a different note, did you ever get to meet and talk with Coach Ford?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes, I met him at couple IPTAY Spring meetings in

Feb 22, 2014, 9:10 AM

Georgetown, Myrtle Beach, and Mt. Pleasant over those years. I also ran into him at a bank in downtown Clemson when I was a student. I'll bet his bank trasaction was slightly different from mine. I also saw a practice in the stadium that wasn't the Spring Game. When I was in school they would have a practie that people could attend in the stadium once in a great while.

Adam Choice is physical, has good speed, and is a smart football player. I think playing running back would not be a problem for him. In H.S. he had the responsibility of reading the defense - frequently calling his own number to good success.

he also catches the ball extremely well. You will not see it in his HS footage, but if you can find some of his 7 on 7 stuff, the kid has great ball skills.

on top of this he is physically ready, and agree he makes great reads.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Adam Choice will probably struggle with blocking

WAYNE GALLMAN WAYNE GALLMAN WAYNE GALLMAN. I've talked to my friend on the team, and he's told me that a lot of people though Gallman was gonna be the starter by the time we played UGA in Athens, and this was before Dye got injured. Gallman has been putting up weight and looks like a beast (I think he's 205 right now, should get to 210 by fall). He'll be a great running back for us. Extremely underrated out of high school as he came on late senior year. I'm surprised he's not being talked about more.

Re: Too bad about Dye. I was thinking he was going to be the

Feb 21, 2014, 11:09 PM

I like Zack Brooks for his versatility, but I don't see him being the featured back. He's got good hands coming out of the backfield. Unfortunately he hasn't always had the best ball security.

CJ Davidson looked promising, but I'm just not so sure about his size. He seems a bit small for a back. AE seemed small to me too, but AE could juke people out of their shoes.

Everybody seems to be high on Gallman and we've got Choice coming in this year. I think we'll be good at RB especially if the newer guys can block.

Re: Too bad about Dye. I was thinking he was going to be the

Feb 21, 2014, 11:20 PM

Ball security was on my mind in regards to Brooks. I would hope or think a bigger frame would help him somewhat in this area. I know a lot of it is mental. A strong body all way help. Davidson is capable of being as productive as AE. He needs to put in the work going into this spring and summer.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

CJ Davidson

Feb 21, 2014, 11:53 PM

Is serviceable at best. He is not a true running back and his primary ability lies in his straight line speed. Andre Ellington is a great RB and has been since his pee wee days in Moncks Corner. Not bashing on Davidson but there really is no comparison between the two when the subject is carrying the football through a defense.

Sorry but I disagree.

Feb 21, 2014, 11:59 PM

I saw all the skills you would want in a running back. Vision, speed, ran low, and showed improvisational skills. Only issue is he's raw. Skill is there, just needs more experience.
