Tony Elliot called a good game ... right? Right?

Nov 20, 2021, 3:53 PM

Almost everything that did not work today was strictly because of poor execution.

The play calls were right on point.

Elliott needs some kudos sent his way because he called a game that Wake Forest could not defend.

Come on haters ... give it up!

For sure...and when the run started working he stuck with it.

It looked to me like he called a game without regard to protecting a QB. He put the pressure on DJ to make reads in the game. DJ wasn't great, but got progressively better. He had his best game when he gave DJ the opportunity to fail. He did fail and bounced back to got progressively better.

Take away: no more pre-snap called reads from the box. If DJ blows the read, its on him he can own it and fix it.

When everything flows correctly.....

Nov 21, 2021, 12:49 PM [ in reply to Re: Tony Elliot called a good game ... right? Right? ]

...it's kinda hard to ping who corrected what.

DJ looked relatively better.
Beaux Collins is coming out of his shell to be next years go-to
The running game was a high-point.
The OLine looked better.
The D played with intensity.

Who do you give accolades to when it's been total sh*t for weeks....and then just comes together?

I'll wait one more week when we play @ USC to see if Elliot can execute a gameplay.....he's screwed the pooch one too many times already.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

When players execute, coaches look better ... simple.

Nov 21, 2021, 2:14 PM

For example, in the first quarter DJ over threw two wide open receivers streaking for a TD and a bit later Kobe Pace coughed up a fumble after a long run.

Bad calls, or failed player execution?

Later DJ hit Beaux Collins right in stride for a 59 yard TD ... great execution made the play a great call. If he over threw him, it was the same play call, but it stunk ...

Bottom line: Players have to make plays, or all play calls look like bad calls.

Absolutely. His outside runs were schemed up nicely. The pin and pull was working to perfection.

We haven’t shown the outside run all year or very few so the coaches saw something on film that told them we could do it against Wake. I knew we could run on Wake but I did not know it would be that easy. TE called a good game and if the QB had played a little better and could run more we win even easier. Happy Birthday Dabo, let’s keep the streak alive in Columbia next Saturday. I know it’s early and I have not researched the ##### but I feel pretty good right now.

Yes, he called a great game when he figured out that all we had to do is hand the ball off to Shipley and Pace!

You are absolutely right. I think he has been hindered this year because of lack of execution by his players.

I agree he called a great game. The run game was working and he called some great plays beside the speed option which hasn’t worked all year BUT that 1 play out of a ton. Great job tigers and coaches. GO TIGERS!!!

He never forgot how to coach or call a game

He called a good game today, but let's don't give him another Broyle's Award yet. There is a reason that everybody is so happy that he kept handing it off when it was working.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He called an amazing game given the lack of resources at WR

I was very nice to see him not over think it… we can do the same thing next weekend … dj doesn’t have it so if you’re able to run it down a teams throat and score like then do it , which is what we did … instead of trying so much to gain confidence in dj throwing … it’s 11 games in he is what he is and I believe we have the backs to do this more

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agreed.

Nov 20, 2021, 6:33 PM

I thought the fake WR screen to Swinney that went to Shipley was a particularly well designed play.

We’ve been running that screen for years.

easily best game of the year. I missed most of Q1 and left early in the 4th, but don't think I saw a single WR screen.

Thought he called a solid game. The mixture of inside and outside runs seemed very efficient. Also felt he used the TEs well. Would like to see them/Allen continue to be asignificant part of the offense.

I'm in the group of Tony's worst credits, but he did call his best game in his OC career with our game against Weak Forest, plus, DJ even had a better than usual game against Weak Forest, and it was bc of the play calling I do believe, but again, DJ still has a lot of work to do before he is even close to being the type of QB that Clemson has to have to get the best out of the offense that we run at Clemson!!!
