Tonight I honor my All Time Favorite Tiger Football Player.

Feb 25, 2019, 7:17 PM

Dad passed away last night about this time. He was Tiger Tough until the end. He never complained about his old age afflictions. He handled them with a steely resolve . That same steely resolve Frank Howard noticed when he watched my Dad play in the 1949 Shrine Bowl game. Howard awarded Dad a scholarship to be part of his single wing offense. At the end of Dads sophomore year Howard moved to a faster formation as times were changing. Dad fell Down the depth chart for the remainder of his college days.

After graduation he served as an Army Officer before going into the oil business for his entire career. I learned more from this man than you can imagine, includng his steely resolve. As for Dad himself his bite was much worse than his bark ! Everyone respected him and he was always kind to people that behaved themselves !

When I see people wearing the logo “A Clemson Man Needs No Introduction” it rings true. Dad needed no introduction. He was the finest example of a Clemson Man ! He commanded a room when he entered and was all business.

Thanks for everything Dad. I love you !

I've often said, I wish I could be half the man of those in that generation and before. I have no doubt he was a fine gentleman from top to bottom. So sorry for your loss. Savor the memories.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Clearly you have wonderful memories of your dad and a wonderful legacy. I lost my dad many years ago when I was a teen and I miss him every day. You have an adult relationship and a wonderful bond. I know it doesnt feel like it now but you have been richly blessed with that. Pay that forward. I salute you dad for his service to Clemson, in the military, and as a dad and citizen. Prayers sent to you, your family, and all impacted by his loss.

Sounds like you were blessed with a great dad. May God give you His peace and comfort you with His presence during these days and may you be blessed with many wonderful memories. Based upon his high school graduation date, your dad was about 10-11 years older than me. I am very familiar with Chester since I grew up in Lockhart.

As men of faith, we know that the spiritual seed which is planted in these “jars of clay” when watered with duty & love begins to grow until it can no longer be contained in these earthen vessels. Your father’s large spirit has broken free now, not limited by a human body.
My Dad moved on 3 years ago at the age of 82, and since that time his influence on my life has been unexpectedly strong. I see things in a different light. I’ve come to understand some things that use to baffle me. Thank the Lord for faithful fathers!

Prayers & Blessings to you and yours~

Mine passed in December 2008 at 89. A toughman in his own right, but the compassion and humility to weather any storm. Dad had the good sense drilled into him from 1938 to 1941 to listen first, then give a response worthy.
