Tom Luginbill failed his homework assignment...

Sep 8, 2021, 8:46 PM

In a recent SI article Luginbill said our OL is, "in serious trouble" going back to last year. It's hard to argue that as our OL has regressed since the 2018 Natty. Hopefully we can gel as tge season moves along, and we can develop more physicality. In my opinion, we need to take a couple of these early games and work on being physical up front and show some commitment to domination in the running game. So yeah, while we may or may not be, "in serious trouble" we absolutely need to improve by leaps and bounds if we hope to return to the elite.

Where I have an issue with Luginbill is where he says he went back and reviewed DJ's high school game, and says he's, "not the same innately accurate passer that either Trevor Lawrence or Deshaun Watson was". He dismisses DJ as not being as good as Trevor and Deshaun, and he combines that with our OL concerns to say our offense will be a liability all year.

Luginbill say he went back and looked at DJ's high school career. Really, Tom? Did you??

No way did you really do any research:

DJ threw for 10,496 yards in high school. That's 6 miles! In addition, DJ threw for 127 TDs and only 11 INTs. As for accuracy, DJ was 585 of 871 in passing. That's over 67%. That's not remotely "inaccurate"!

For comparison, Trevor Lawrence was 846 out of 1335. That's 63%.

Deshaun Watson was 939 out of 1458. That's 64%.

Obviously DJ had a phenomenal HS career, and the fact is he was considerably more accurate in HS than both Trevor and Deshaun.

Obviously Tom Luginbill did zero research. He just threw out a supposed talking point without even fact checking his own comments.

Look, I'll buy that we have some issues with the OL, but to try and lump DJ's performance in there as a long-term concern based on a fictitious high school review, well, that's extremely sloppy at best and plain ol' low brow idiocy at worst.

I look for DJ to improve by leaps and bounds as this season progresses. Do not count our Tigers out!

I think Tom was referring more to what he had seen in camps,

and since DJ has been at Clemson, and not to his high school career. Although I agree with you, in that in the two games DJ started last year, he was pretty accurate! I think he was just intimidated by the UGA rush Saturday night.

That's not what he said, and DJ was 67% last year.

I don't normally have any issues with Luhinbill, but he clearly spoke out of his ### on this one.

Luginbill is a talking head, what he says matters "ZERO" on the field, and that is the only place it matters... DJ is fine, he needs to work with his receivers and get on the same page... the pick 6 was on Ross not so much DJ... he needs to use his feet and instincts more. I think there is a bot of the we are one deep at QB mentality and he just needs to relax and play his game.

you should post your points as a comment on that article...

when you post it, make sure to tag him to be sure that he reads it... I would do it, if I had done that research, but I will not copy and paste to take the credit.

Show him that he can't be lazy and not be called out for it... seriously...
