Clemson's Culture

Feb 3, 2022, 4:09 PM

If I were the dad of a 5-star recruit, and he was projected to be a future NFL 1st round draft pick, I'm picking Clemson. Not UGA. Not Bama. The coots wouldn't even be allowed to contact my son. My reasons for this aren't limited to football. Allow me to explain (and sorry for the long post):

Clemson's culture is so much bigger than the football team. Yeah, it starts with Dabo Swinney, and his "aw shucks" persona his character & his reputation. The Clemson culture runs deeper than that though. The culture is the elderly man who was nice enough to give my son a Clemson $2 bill when he saw my son decked out in Solid Orange in Walmart. The culture is meeting Jad Dean on a bus headed for Daytona Beach and listening to him share his response to missing that kick with 2 middle school boys. The culture is watching a relatively unknown Tiger (who's white) from Anderson SC adopt 2 black boys each from birth and raising them to be godly young men. These are stories that make the Clemson culture unique.

When Coach Swinney says that he's recruiting football players & developing them into great husbands, fathers, and great people, I can attest that it's true. I've watched the impact that Coach Swinney has had on the football program, but it seems to me that he's had an effect on the fans too. To me, the Clemson culture is everyone who benefits from it. The football team, the fans, the alumni, past & future.

We ain't perfect, but we dang sure ain't the coots, Bama, or UGA. We're Clemson, and this culture is a culture I hope is built to last. We might not win every national title and we won't win all the recruiting battles. But I'll always pick the Clemson culture over the others. Why?

Because what's happening in these hills is real.

We all know nobody including our coach is perfect but he bases his program on a couple of scriptures from the Bible that are the foundation for everything else.

Love the Lord thy God with all your heart, mind & soul and..

Love your neighbor as yourself!

Making best the standard is striving to be your best because you believe the two wisdoms of truth from above.

We do what we do unto the Lord & those who we love on the the team.

It’s the reason Clemson has been so great in many areas.

Let’s go Tigers!

Amen Guys. To each of you thanks. This is what separates Clemson from the rest of the world. People laugh when Dabo mentions “culture.” But let them laugh, We Are Clemson and the Lord has blessed us with “those hills” and the men and women who makes up Clemson.”

I’m sure there are others but when I think of the culture at Clemson, the first ones that come to mind are Christian Wilkins and David Seville. Dabo’s relationship with David has always been special to me. Wilkins just did everything the right way and I’ll never forget the video of him and all the coach’s kids inside the athletic complex on Halloween night. Hilarious!!!
