18 or 20 Unstoppable Bama Offense More Potent?

Oct 20, 2020, 12:49 PM

Seen many messages on this board in "indirect ways" talking about how good the Alabama offense is this season! So, my question is do you think this season's offense is better than the one called: "the greatest offense in the history of college football" in 2018 lead by Tua Tagavaloia?

Maybe the Miami Dolphins made a bad pick and Tua was just a product of an awesome system and great WR's? Steve Sarkisian has implemented some of what Enos and Locksley started namely the slant routes/deep digs and such. They take routine routes and look like world beaters.

I think if Jones was better than Tua he would have been starting! I also "know" we beat the great Bama offense with the better of the two QB's. Sure we have different personnel but we still have BV.

Enough of that though. Which do you think of the two unstoppable offenses is better? ( sarcasm )!

Lawrence has better numbers than Jones playing half the time.

I know. This is for the plethora of folks declaring this years Bama offense "so unstoppable"! In a year mind you franc1968 where the SEC heading into week 4 of the season was DEAD LAST in defense at 422 ypg given up. The Big 12 was 1st in an ironic twist at 379.8 a game. The ACC was 2nd at 386.4. So, in a conference giving up the most points many folks giving them the best offense title ( is the point and I disagree ).

Other than Uga what defense has Bama played that would be considered any good at this point in the season.

None! I am with you! Georgia doesn't really play a real sophisticated defense either! They kind of just out muscle and out physical most opponents. It allows them to play fast and just react. But, when you play someone who you can't just get physical with "what do you do"?

I'm with you. I am not one of the people calling them the best! In fact, trying to show it's a ridiculous claim.

Technically A&M ain't bad.

Ranked
UGA #14
Texas A&M #22
Mizzou #54
Note (BAMA #66)
OlMiss #76 of 77

VS #3 Clemson
Miami #38
UVA #43
Wake #57
Georgia Tech #70 (lol not 73)

#3 for us is a bit odd as we are the only ones that have played 5 games and only WVU has allowed fewer yards per play (4.05 to our 4.08) but we know games against Eastern Kentuckalaky and Kansas pad those stats.

A&M made Vanderbilt look like they would be tough. Skewed the numbers a bit.

This year's Bama team has fewer weapons than the 2018 version.

The one big change from Tua to Jones, based on the 1 good defense that Jones has faced this year, is that Jones doesn't seem to be fooled by coverage disguises as often as Tua.

I think in 2018 Tua threw a pick against every defense he played that was ranked higher than 35 or 40 in the country. I believe they had 3 opponents in that category that season.

Jones threw an INT Saturday night but it was because he was hit on the play and not because he got fooled by the DB.

We will see how it shakes out moving forward, but Bama won't see another good defense until possibly the SEC championship game when they get a repeat with UGA.

Only watched Jones a couple times, but I think Tua's mobility gives him the edge.

To a layman like me, they look like Bama before Tua.

The OL moved a very good UGA DL around. Backs that are bowling balls to tackle. Receivers in the Julio Jones range. A QB that can make all that work, even if not a star.

42 against GA is nothing to sneeze at, but I don't see them in the 'unstoppable' category of '18. It could be even worse, the type that will simply won't give the ball back. Its the type of offense that will never lose a two score lead, imo.

I don't think Alabama's receivers have the height advantage this year. For the first time I feel the Clemson corners can play man and have success. It has been a joy to watch the corners play this year.

In 2018 Alabama had 3 tailbacks that could all damage you, they don't seem as deep this year.

Would BV play the 3 man DL front with linebackers blitzing from who knows where or does he go to a 4 or 5 man front? If a 3 man front can keep the running game in check then I think Clemson could run all over them again this year.
