We, from the best of my knowledge, did not recruit Ewers. Ty Simpson was our number one target with Klubnik number two on the board. We asked Klubnik to be patient while we waited on Simpson to make a decision. Simpson Charles Alabama so we immediately offered Klubnik and now he’s a five star and the number one recruit in the 2022 class.

Head-to-head he has beaten Ewers twice and next year he will compete for the back up job behind DJ. Then his sophomore year he will be competing for the starting position.

Ty Simpson may have done us a huge favor going to Alabama leaving Klubnik for us. It’s gonna be fun and interesting to see just how good he ends up being! I really love this kid’s skill set. He was originally listed as a pro stock quarterback, but man he can really run in his highlights. I think we really did get the best QB in the 2022 class and I would feel that way even if you Ewers was still in it.

The question going forward is how Will this effect our recruiting of Manning. DJ committed knowing he would sit behind Trevor for a year. Club Nick committed knowing he will probably be behind DJ for a year. I think a lot of these kids are willing to sit behind a great starter, a potential first round NFL draft pick, for a year. But with Klubnik being in the 22 class and Manning being in the 23 that would put manning potentially sitting behind Klubnik not just for a year but potentially two or even three.

Trevor Lawrence didn’t bump Tajh Boyd or Deshaun Watson out of the starting job. He bumoed Kelly Bryant. Trevor Lawrence was head and shoulders better than Bryan.

Klubnik versus Manning would be a completely different story. If Klubnik is the starter in 2023 it would be very difficult for Manning to be the starter in 2024. I think Manning is great, but I doubt he’s that much better than Klubnik. And coaches do tend to err on the side of experience when two quarterbacks are similar in talent.

The only way Manning start supper club Nick as a true freshman is to be substantially better. I think Manning is the real deal but so is Klubnik.

I do agree, however, that if Manning has the confidence and isn’t scared of competition he won’t let the depth chart keep him from going to the school he really wants to play at!
