made the NCAAT and were one-done, and UNC don't mess around!! They fire their coach with 3Natties, 9 ACC Championship's and 3 ACC Tourn Championship's. They don't mess around. Unlike Clemson where several seem we should be happy with middle of ACC finish.
I kid, I kid! Figured I could get some people twisted on the TNet. That said, Roy knows he has a lot of rebuilding this year, which means lots of work. Plus he had probably his worse year ever at UNC which record wise is very similar to ours, I'm sure he is very disappointed and we are supposed to be super happy with the results. I bet if he had a sweet 16 or final 4 team this year with a potential final 4 returning next year, I doubt he sets out to pasture. But at 70yrs old, multi-millions in the bank, why work that hard to get back, which would be easy in comparison to other schools, but can't blame him for enjoying retirement.

I agree with that 100%. As was Bobby Knight, kind of how Spurrier was good for the game.

Not totally unexpected. The last two seasons, trying to navigate in the new 1NDone/AAU landscape has been tough on an ole school basketball coach like Roy. COVID didn't help as well.
Roy's commented on the fact that he finds it difficult to comprehend how many players, and their families, just want the player to be showcased for the NBA in their one season in college. No thought about the team's goals and improving their skills.
Roy kissed the court after the last game of the year against Dook so that should have clued us in.

Respect. I like ol' Roy.

And that means something coming from someone who grew up with that azzzzhole Dean Smith being the face of the tarholes. Then there was Vanilla Ice. But Roy is a decent guy. Saw him once on a flight. Just behaving like a regular guy (well, regular guy sitting up front in first class).
Enjoy retirement coach.

We should go after one of his assistant coaches... Especially the one that can recruit. Recruit classes in the 40's will get about what we get. Or at least one that could bring in some dominant front court.
Top 10 classes is a bit of a stretch until we become elite but at least top 25 and classes in the top 4 of the ACC.

Who played for Roy at UNC. Done a great job at UNC Greeensboro. Don’t know if he would keep some of the staff or bring his staff from UNCG.

It won't be Wes Miller (although I'm a fan). Too big of a jump from Greensboro to Chapel Hill. It would be like Jamey Chadwell moving from HC at Coastal to Clemson in football. Wes needs to take a lower tier P5 job for seasoning.

I’m not so sure about that. Unless some legend coach wants the job I think it Wes. He’s actually the guy I want.

The ACC and NCAA lose one of the legends of the coaching business. Basketball has changed so much who will be next?

Buy $ Roy, finding students who go to class to play was a little different & difficult for Roy, he had to work & baby sit.
Maybe Brad can hire him as assistant coach so he could learn to coach?
