Round round get around, I get around....

Jan 12, 2022, 4:01 PM

Best of luck to him wherever he ends up. Gotta be frustrating for guys like him who are such highly rated QBs in HS and then find out the competition is much bigger in the real world that it is on the scout sheets.

I always had high hopes for him. I thought he was going to come in and fill the void after Watson left, I think we all did. I would love for him to find success somewhere.

He will save us ;).

I think you are right. Cade is a great young talent with the perfect attitude. He is probably in the weight room right now, or out on Bowman throwing to whoever will run routes. Hope the receivers go run some with him and build some chemistry. We need them on the same page.

I have to be honest, you guys just told the story of Hunter Johnson, then retold the same story with Cade Klubnick, But inserted day dreams he is doing all the perfect football things right at this moment.

In reality, his chances of being Hunter Johnson v2 are just as potentially real as anyone new to Div1 football. He's probably actually unpacking his boxes still and working on his first assignments, reading syllabuses for classes that started this week. lol

Re: He didn't but what until you see Cade!!!!!!

Jan 12, 2022, 8:05 PM

Very true but I think playing football in the state of Texas (especially at the level he was) would better prepare someone to play in college compared to the level of competition in Indiana.

Re: He didn't but what until you see Cade!!!!!!

Jan 12, 2022, 9:29 PM [ in reply to Re: He didn't but what until you see Cade!!!!!! ]

And this is the new age of college football. Hunter Johnson was not a professional QB and actually had to go to class. I'm sure Cade could drop some magical NIL bucks on a good tutor. No need to actually read the syllabi.

I kid, all in good fun.

But, yes you are absolutely right. We are anointing Cade in the same manner that HJ was as the savior of the Tiger offense. And we may be wrong, but I still feel great about CK6 and will continue to heap the praises on him until he proves me wrong. I have had a good feeling about him since the prophets on TigerNet told me the good news about our next savior QB! Also, I agree with the previous response that Indiana football is not comparable to 6A Texas football in any way. It's just different. They don't build 70+ million dollar stadiums in Indiana for Friday night games. Just saying.

Finally, I challenge you to watch HJ and CK6 high school film back to back and tell me they are on the same plane. When you watch, remember that the talent level one of them faces is vastly different from the other.

Yea that's the problem with DJ, don't know if he didn't get out there with WRs or vice-versa but there was no chemistry with any of them even when healthy during spring game. That's what made DW4 & Artavis so deadly bc they were relentlessly practicing together. Their timing was perfect. Back on the topic about DJ after the loss when he was out throwing with a grad assistant not one WR was out there with him which led me to believe that we had a bunch of diva WRs that think they're too good to have to practice after a loss or stay late after practice running routes. That's just my 2 pennies anyways. Go Tigers!!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: He didn't but what until you see Cade!!!!!!

Jan 15, 2022, 11:20 AM

You couldn't be more accurate. DJ needs a good real estate agent. A house big enough for him and at least the 2 deep of the WR room to come stay over could change his life. Living with artavis is what made that connection on the field so strong. Correct me if I am wrong but I remember artavis setting a record for receptions in a season. The right real estate agent should be able to find a place with a yard big enough to work on short and intermediate routes which is further than we got on most dropbacks this season. There aren't many investments better than real estate - somebody educate these young men.

Good chemistry might be the difference between getting drafted and going to the CFL.

Let's go DJ, Right the ship!

Its too bad he was dramatically overrated in HS. Its basically ruined his college experience as he seems to think if he transfers enough he will find the magic that made him so amazing when he was 18. If he had been another 3 star QB he would have probably gone somewhere and actually enjoyed one college for four years and maybe had some continuity during some of the most important years of his life.

Re: Round round get around, I get around....

Jan 13, 2022, 10:05 AM

No, he should've never went to NW, they have no QB development there and no targets. Look at Chase Bruce at Duke, he was AWFUL! but when he went to App St he is actually thriving. HJ needs to go somewhere that he can get some good QB coaching and work with good WRs. I'd love to see HJ land back with Tony Elliott or Jeff Scott.

Boy, the COVID year is giving alot of these guys a ton of time in college. This guy is going to be 24 years old by the Spring game!

You know you deserve an article being written about you when your stock photo is from the Spring game 4 years ago...

Re: TNET: Reports: Former Clemson QB re-enters transfer portal

Jan 12, 2022, 5:06 PM

Agree!

I remember that Spring Game well, and Hunter was the 2nd best QB on the field.
Trevor, Hunter, Chase, Kelly.
The QB's played touch, so Kelly's running did not work in that format.
Hunter was a good passer, with quick feet and quick decisions.
I have watched him at Northwestern, and he never looked the same?
He knew he would sit behind Trevor.

I sure hope DJ5 comes around this Spring! We need both Cade and DJ5 for a successful season.

Go Tigers, Wreck Tech!

Same as Chase Brice. They came in the same class and CB is playing for App St again this next season. Covid gave them an extra yr to show out like Pickett did. Best of luck to both CB & HJ. Go Tigers!

True. At least we know he's just wanting to toss a football and not getting the highest bid. Same with Chase. Can't blame him for that.

Might as well. He probably has a degree or two from Northwestern. Now he should go somewhere else and get a masters degree from another highly rated school. Getting out of school debt free is nice.

There is NO guarantee he'll get a schollie offer anywhere. His stats are abysmal. I wish him well, but his next stop may be as a GA paying his own way.

I'm honestly not sure what happened to him. Kid had ALL the tools when he came to us. Quick, Nice arm, accurate. In the limited time I saw him he looked MUCH better than Zerrick Cooper and I remember being ticked off that they wouldn't put him in at that Syracuse game where Cooper looked lost. I guess the coaches had seen in practice what history has proven out; he just doant have the mental part of the game down. Oh well, I wish him well going forward.

He would have been much much better off staying here with us and learning from Trevor and Brandon. I think they could have got him straight.

I like Northwestern and was glad he chose them. At least he got a coach that believed in developing young men and a quality education.

He never looked much better than Zerrick Cooper. He had one good drive in the WF game (like a 40 yard td drive) where he completed a few short passes and everyone thought he was Peyton Manning. Other than that he was pretty abysmal in game action.

Re: TNET: Reports: Former Clemson QB re-enters transfer portal

Jan 13, 2022, 3:47 PM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Reports: Former Clemson QB re-enters transfer portal ]

Arguably one could say he made a really bad choice going to Northwestern. They can't seem to coach up any QB so he can play. His leaving Clemson was probably a right choice, just a mistake to go to NW. With Lawrence on the team he was never going to get to play, but Northwestern has had more coaching troubles than we dare complain about at Clemson (which says alot).

once without sitting a year. UNless you are a grad transfer which means no sitting a year. THis is probably what he is doing since he has been in college a while. I like him but he has had couple opportunities to start there and hasnt held on to the job. It may not be all on him but I'm sure he wants to build a nice body of work for pro ball. May need to find a starting role for that

Sad to say, but Hunter is a prime example of "The other side

Jan 12, 2022, 7:13 PM

of the portal" story. He had his chances at Northwestern, but just couldn't out compete his peers to keep the starting job. And THAT, far more than the Joe Burrows and Justin Fields of the world, is the "normal" outcome of the portal.

If you transfer due to a lack of playing time, at ANY position, it does NOT suddenly imbue you with any Super Powers you didn't have before.

LOL, this goes in the who cares category. He is not a Tiger.... period. He moved on; so did we. I have no concern for any player that leaves our university, except upon graduation. Transfer with a degree... cool. If you leave for another college program before graduating, you are no longer a Tiger in my eyes. my two cents. YMMV

Despite transferring, Kelly Bryant was hugely valuable to Clemson. He was good enough to win the ACC and get us to the CFP (*) - that’s sounding pretty good right about now.

(*) Not to mention making the single most important play in Clemson history on 4th and 5 against NC State - without that pass, the 2017-2018 Clemson team cannot lay claim to “greatest ever.”

Good luck to him. 5 star, # 1 rated guys don’t always pan out in college, same with Heisman’s transitioning to pros. Clemson knows better than most about 5 star, # 1 QB flops. But Watson and Lawrence worked out very well for us….so, we’re batting 500. Hopefully, Klubnick will not disappoint….watching him play in high school, I think he’s going to do great.
