I'm in Favor of 3 common opponents:

FSU, GT and NC State.

If 5, common opponents then:

FSU, GT, Wake, NC State & VT

I would like no common opponents, especially with FSU in our conference that has screwed us out of playing in the ACC championship game. Most of all, nothing would please me more than getting rid of the one team that has made our schedule the weakest through out our history, and that team is the coots.

It's pathetic calling our yearly game with the coots the Palmetto bowl, and the winner state champions. Beating the coots, the last decade is no different than us beating up on SC State, period!!!

Not that I totally disagree but what does the USC game have to do with the ACC conference?

I love it when people say the Atlantic Coast Conference Conference. Hehehehe

Only one thing would be even better, IMO and that would be talking elimination of Notre Dame from the conference starting tomorrow morning.

Re: TNET: Report: ACC talking elimination of football divisions as early as 2023

May 9, 2022, 5:06 PM

Yep, being a part in Notre Dame's independent strength of schedule is also another game that I wish that Clemson never had a part in. If they want their cake to eat by them selves, it makes me hate that playing us helps them keep their independent status by beefing up their schedule, and that helps them with their NBC contract. If all power 5 schools would stop allowing ND to pick and choose some of the power teams that maybe down that year bc QB turn over, NBC wouldn't be to excited about putting them under contract, and that would force ND to join a conference, or force their alumni to afford everything within their sports department!!! They believe they are to sexy for their shirt, or anything else they wear....

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yea... but what about Notre Dame????

more often. I hate how many years we go before we play some of the teams in our conference. I think its a good idea to try and play them more often as well as allowing the two best teams every year to play for the Championship game.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

By my count, we have won our division 7 times

May 9, 2022, 5:02 PM

and "all others" have combined to win it 9 times. Would be cool to win it this year and next and retire divisions having won the Atlantic 50% of the time

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Hopefully we get one of the FLA schools and Georgia Tech

May 9, 2022, 5:41 PM

This would be for recruiting purposes.

Between UNC, NCST, Wake, and Duke we would have plenty of rotational games in North Carolina.

We never played VT every year like UNC and UVA. About the only one I miss playing every year from the old guard ACC is UNC. Virginia Nah. Duke Nah. Maryland Heck no! LOL>

Re: TNET: Report: ACC talking elimination of football divisions as early as 2023

Va Tech is always a good match-up (since 1900) and we need to play the other teams more often.
We play ND more than UNC, Pitt, Miami…. Makes no sense?
Keep ND and play the others more often (not Cuse, Lewisville, and Wake every year).
OK with FL State, NC State and GA Tech every year, along with the Coots……. Drop SC State, add Coastal for in State games!

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This is very encouraging to hear.

May 9, 2022, 7:09 PM

The 3 permanent and 5 rotating from there ensure a home and away with every league team in 4 years - perfect. No one outside the ACC footprint knows who is in which division to begin with, and we strangle our national interest by keeping too many programs from meeting up often enough. Plus, it's impossible to develop any kind of significant rivalry with another program, the lifeblood of sports, with one game every six years plus the occasional ACCCG match-up with nearly half the league.

Schedules are already imbalanced today with the highly cyclical nature of college sports meeting small, set divisions that can stink one year and be great the next. Championship-caliber teams take care of business when the opportunity is there. If they don't, and slip up and miss out, well that's on them. No whining.

Ga Tech, NC State, and FSU are hopefully our 3 annuals. Ga Tech and NC State due to history and proximity, and FSU due to wanting to own their @$$ as often as possible plus it's a good game for the league to market and if FSU can stop sucking then it's another feather in the cap.

Been lobbying for this approach for a long time, including letters to AD's and committee members and such over the years, so All In on this format for sure.

Two other bonuses. First, this helps us cure the frequency of playing each other more often issue without upping the number of league games past 8. Second, more travel options each fall for us fans who might be a little tired of the same old, same old year in and year out to the same, tired destinations and stadiums.

Go Tigers!

I am not really sure how I feel about this deal. I still

May 9, 2022, 7:35 PM

recall all the angst about us possibly missing the ACC Championship game during the covid year due to the FSU detestable wimpout at the last minute possibly putting us percentage points short of making it. It all worked out in the end, but it just as easily might not have.

I am more in favor of a nine conference game schedule each year, divisions or no. One "good" OOC game per year, one "freebie" against an instate FCS team, and the annual Chikin Kickin vs the Lamecocks.

Even with divisions, the nine conference game schedule would rotate us through the schools in the other division quicker. I would abolish the "permanent" games with Georgia Tech, and make the three "other division" games a true rotation.

Re: TNET: Report: ACC talking elimination of football divisions as early as 2023

May 9, 2022, 7:56 PM

Doesn’t matter how you mix it up. When you have 14 teams in a conference you have 4 too many.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: Report: ACC talking elimination of football divisions as early as 2023

May 9, 2022, 10:20 PM

14 teams is actually the perfect number for 3 annual games, which most teams in the league have natural fits for, and rotating the other 5 games in an 8 game overall schedule. 14 teams is the ideal size for that consistent and balanced format.

I, too, like the 14 teams, and while I'm at it, it's past time for ND to either be all in, or all out. JMO.

Re: TNET: Report: ACC talking elimination of football divisions as early as 2023

May 10, 2022, 10:02 AM

I don’t see why there needs to be common opponents. They just just need to rotate it so each school plays each other more often. Also, I say tell ND either you join the ACC as a full fledged member or go take a hike.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: Report: ACC talking elimination of football divisions as early as 2023

May 10, 2022, 10:23 AM

Nah they need to keep rivalry games intact every season like Clemson-FSU; Clemson-GT; FSU-Miami; Miami-VT; VT-UVA etc. Makes for good TV inventory and ratings. The ACC already has too many boring contests. IMO good natural rivalries is what makes the SEC good. Not playing rivalry games every year would be like Alabama/Auburn missing each other some seasons in the SEC.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: Report: ACC talking elimination of football divisions as early as 2023

May 10, 2022, 11:19 AM

Uggggg

How about just splitting north/south. That keeps the natural rivals since that is already geographically based.

Clemson, Miami, FSU, GT, UNC, Dook, WF, NC State

BC, Cuse, Pitt, UofL, UVA, VT, ND, (whatever - don't care).

Have one cross-over game as "OOC" (akin to Wake UNC this year). UVA/UNC, Miami/Pitt, FSU/VT (Partyl like its'99), W11F/ND, Clemson/BC, Duke/Cuse, NCSU/UofL (trashbowl), GT/Whatever).

Re: TNET: Report: ACC talking elimination of football divisions as early as 2023

May 10, 2022, 11:34 AM

I'm in support of scrapping divisions and changing it to a 9 game conference schedule that includes 2 or 3 permanent teams (gotta keep FSU for sure and then I guess NC State and/or GT). I'd like to play Pitt and Miami more often... less Syracuse.

Eliminate divisions and do away with playing “rivals” each year.

May 10, 2022, 11:47 AM

I don’t need to play Georgia Tech, NC State, Florida State, or anyone else every year. I’d rather have plenty of open slots to play all ACC teams on a rotating basis.

ACC schools who have a legitimate rival can play them every year, but I don’t see the point in creating a rivalry that isn’t there.

I like playing those three every year. Clemson/FSU is a nationally-recognized rivalry when both teams are good and we have good history and close proximity with State and GT.
