Wow, that's awful

I know USuC is the top ladies team, but still - should be a little more competitive than that! What is wrong with our basketball programs??

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It’s even worse when you realize

That any halfway decent boys high school basketball team can beat the best in the WNBA.

Just like when our women’s World Cup scrimmage against high school boys and get their butt kicked.

The one that always surprises me is when you think about Annika Sörenstam and the time she played a PGA event with a sponsors exemption. If there was any sport where you think women could compete with men it would be golf. And she played an event that had a very weak field with few of the top players and still missed the cut. The only reason she wasn’t dead last is because a handful of guys withdrew and a few others were playing with injuries.

The media and activists and other people are always pushing these female athletes to play against men, especially in tennis and golf, but if you notice they’re not rushing out there to do it! Because they know they’re gonna get embarrassed. Because they know they can’t compete but they don’t want to come out and tell these idiots that they really need to shut up because they don’t wanna get the pushback.

Think about when John McEnroe said Serena was the best female player of all time and everybody lost their minds because he didn’t say she was the greatest player of all time. The pushback he got was crazy. But that’s one of the things I love about Johnny Mac, he didn’t back down! He has been my favorite tennis player since I saw him in that classic match against Björn Borg at Wimbledon when he came out of nowhere as a qualifier and almost beat Borg. A lot of people still consider that one of if not the greatest tennis match ever.

I think the number of elite-level women's basketball players is pretty small and the big programs are able to hoard what's out there. So you end up with varsity level players playing against the C-team at times, sometimes the JV team. On a few occasions when the varsity plays the varsity, you get a competitive game.

I also think that without the real jumping ability you see in men, a team that can get really good taller players in the paint can monopolize the rebounding. Clemson had 23 rebounds to USC's 41. Clemson's starting front court is 6'0" and 6'2" (with a 6'3" and 6'3" bench), USC's is 6'5" and 6'2" (with a 6'7", 6'4", 6'3", and 6'3" bench that played). So Clemson played three players over 6' tall and USC played six players over 6' tall. They also have some relatively tall guards as well that played (three 6' or better).

Strangely, I had the same feeling watching that, that I did watching the 2nd half of us vs Joe Burreaux and LSU in the Natty. We couldn't slow them down, it was a fast break to oblivion. Both times.

The only feeling I had watching the LSU game was that

Nov 18, 2022, 9:26 AM

if there OL didn't hold egregiously on about half6 or 8 big plays and scores - accounting for at least 21 points, we would have beaten them.

I don't ever want to oversimplify and assume that bad calls always affect the outcome, but that game was egregious. And LSU did it all season. They could not have beaten Texas, or Alabama, and may not have beaten us, w/o all that holding. Watch #76 on their OL in that game. I'll never recognize their win or title there. It was fake.

Yep, And the bogus pass interference calls, I was at the game, total home cooking

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We actually could’ve won that game

That was the worst DL we have had in 12 or 15 years. They were devastated by the draft and they were young and very thin. No depth.

Had a few plays gone our way, that didn’t because of our own mistakes and execution, we could’ve been up by 10 points at the end of the third-quarter.

Even with a seven point lead at the end of the third-quarter we could’ve tried keeping the ball on the ground tried playing a little bit of ball control, run some screens which we did pretty well back then, anything to keep our defense off the field. Anything to run the clock.

Because really that was a very close game until the end of the third-quarter. But our defense was gassed and then they just rocked us the entire fourth quarter!

Man, these team twitter accounts

can be so lame. Raving about a "block party" down 45 in garbage time.

Agreed...ridiculous and embarrassing. And I'm not even sure she blocked it, looks like it hit the bottom of the backboard.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don’t care how good SC is

Nov 18, 2022, 9:54 AM

That’s an embarrassing score line. They treated us like Charleston Southern or something

I hope Graham Neff is inspired to do something about women's basketball.

I have zero inside information on what and how they practice but I do know (at least on paper ratings) she's had some decent recruiting classes and what appears to be good transfer ratings. So it shouldn't be a talent issue.

Obviously one or three teams have scar talent but the gap shouldn't be this big. We'd be hard pressed to compete in the so con.

2:48 is shown on the clock and Clemson has 29 points. So, Clemson only score 2 more points in 2 minutes and 48 seconds??? That is pathetic!!! The should have thrown in the white towel after the 1st quarter.

That's nothing...the men's team goes on 8 minute scoreless streaks at least once a week.

Let them have it. It’s all they got!***

It’s all the coots have, let them win a few games in Womens Basketball. We usually beat them in mens basketball and we all know that’s not our flagship program yet!

Sorry but the men's loss is WAY worse to me. SC had a first year coach with a bunch of transfers and Clemson still looked pathetic in the first half and found a way to still lose in the second half. That's with PJ being back and playing over half the minutes. Sorry but the men's loss is inexcusable. I've been up and down on Brownell but I would have fired him right after the game. This is a do or die year for you and you come out flat with zero energy against your rival with like I said a new coach and a bunch of transfers and freshman who've never played together before. TOTALLY INEXCUSABLE.
