What makes the last 2 minutes different? Shouldn’t

Apr 21, 2023, 2:32 PM

be, thus making the strategy related to taking timeouts more critical. If you waste them early, you shouldn’t be bailed out late ( if the rest of game you aren’t). Don’t really understand the differentiation, except to help the team that is behind. Doesn’t benefit the team that is ahead at all.

The main reason for the change was to make games shorter not change the strategy of time management. GO TIGERS!!!

Actually for last several years the clock only stopped for a couple of seconds. It used to be stopped until the “ready for play”.

Yep this does absolutely nothing to “speed up the action” on the field. All it does is reduce the amount of plays but keep the exact same commercial load and instant replay review time. The game may end 10-15 minutes earlier but they will still schedule game windows of 3 hours so we will miss 15 minutes of a meaningful game so we can see the last quarter of a blowout.

The game is going to tell its own story. Did not need an off the cuff rule change such as this to create a bunch of unnecessary drama towards the end of the game. Go ahead and keep the clock running throughout the whole game. Give the teams 4 timeouts a piece.

What is the point of letting the game lag on when a team is up by 14 or less then last 2 minutes.....we want to give them every extra opportunity to come back.....every extra opportunity to have as much drama as possible.

Better to have left that part the way it was.

Kudos to the TNet Writing Staff

I first saw this reported on the four-letter network by Heather Dumditch and was super confused. She's a senior writer...that's not good. Come back to Ol'T-Net and they put words together in a way my brain can hear them.

Who needs laptops when you can have drones?

I after E except after C type rule. Just dumb to make the game more complicated. Not worth what they are attempting to achieve.

I don’t get the backlash on this

Apr 23, 2023, 7:56 AM

I like that the clock stops after a 1st in football
It’s a different strategy and twist

If they’d just gone straight NFL rules and not kept that last 2 mins I’d have been disappointed

I watch ball to be entertained. Giving a little hope to the trailing team increases the drama and doubt in many games.. I’m all for that.

If it’s the end of blowout, run out the clock
See Clemson Bama Santa Clara for masters class 🤙🏽

I like the clock stopping on first downs because it gives teams a little time to get everyone up to the ball after a long play. Other than that it doesn’t serve much purpose since it started again as soon as the ball is spotted.

So when does the 25 second clock start?
