we lived across from the fire station about 4 floors up (was that D?). I crawled on the ledge after a storm to get a trash can full of snow for snowballs. It was stupid and I was fully sober when I did this.

I love the snow and wished it would snow more often.

In the 70's, I felt that way. In fact, I loved the snow and cold weather up until 15 or so years ago. 50 degrees was shorts weather...now, 70 is long-sleeve tees! WTH happened to me?

from South Florida in my dorm (E-section) who had NEVER seen snow in person. They almost didn't know what to do.

Was around January 20th, 1977. Reflection pond in front of the library froze. Some students from the up north had their skates with them and ice skated on the pond.

Temperature rarely got above freezing for several days in Clemson.

I had gone home for the weekend when the huge snowstorm hit

in 1973. I could not get back until the following Wednesday. A couple of A-Whole professors would not believe me when I told them the Highway Patrol was keeping all but emergency traffic off the roads around where I lived in the middle of the state. (SC)

One of my high school friends that also attended Clemson with me had stayed in Clemson, and when I got back, he had a foot in a big cast. He had slid down the hill to the Amphitheater on a lunch tray, and forgot about the drop off at the bottom of the hill. Screws and plates in a badly broken ankle remind him to this day, I'll bet. :(

A couple of good snows in the early 80's too.
1980 when #1 Duke came to Tigertown. We won
And 1981.

I was a Freshman in 1978 and we all “borrowed “ trays from Schiletter (sp) and slid down the Clemson House hill. The Univ. Police, on a bull horn, said the next person to come down will be arrested!! A couple went down and were grabbed but when they realized it was Steve Fuller and Shawn Weatherly, they asked them to please stop! Too funny!

I was there for the snows in the early 80’s. Remember taking the trays from Clemson House and sledding down the hill right into highway 93. Didn’t have to worry about traffic - no one was driving in the snow!

Great memories of a great place ... one or two snow storms a year were pretty standard back in the late 70's through mid-80's.

In 1981, we bought a keg of Budweiser from TTT and carried it to Riggs field (It was an intermural field then). We buried it in snow and then played football all day.

The main snow storm that I remember was the Thursday in March after Spring Break of 1971. It rained pretty constantly until Noon when it changed to snow. By 6PM, we had received 9 and 3/4 inches of snow, Great time was had by all. The next weird storm was the weekend before classes started in January 1973 It started on Saturday after the first ACC basketball game and we ended up with 4 inches. the problem is was not just snow but also freezing rain and sleet. We ended up with a solid sheet of frozen precipitation. Classes were delayed opening by one day. The big snow storm of 1973 occurred in the Low Country and Midlands with amounts of 20 inches in Florence and 14 inches in Columbia. We listened to the reports on radio and TV, but we did not even receive rain from this system. The Sun came out that afternoon. That was in February of 1973. The Walterboro paper had pictures of elephants from a circus pulling eighteen wheelers out of ditches.

I’ll vouch for you on that spring storm . No class on Friday so 5 of us left for Rock Hill on Thursday night . Needless to say it was a nightmare of a trip in a VW bug .
