I missed the Einhorn/Finkle (on board at end) reference back when first aired many moons ago. Even to this day, that bit keeps giving.

Jul 18, 2022, 7:51 PM [ in reply to Their offenseive playbook just a got a good bit thicker. ]

Jeff just hired himself a major head ache with not knowing if the Chad will be at work, or out interviewing for a HC position some where else bc he will be constantly looking for a HC job, and it's mainly bc THE Chad just can't handle not being the boss!!!

If Chad would have settled down into the OC position working for Dabo, he would have been ready to be successful as a HC, and he wouldn't have had those failures on his resume, it would have been clean, and with all the success that Clemson has had after he left with Clemson winning 2 National Championships, THE Chad would have already had some some really good HC-ing job offers, he could have cherry picked the job that would have best fit his style, but he couldn't be patient, and his lack of patients has all but completely ruined his reputation as a power 5 college HC!!!

The reality is

Jul 18, 2022, 9:45 PM

He made a good step to SMU. Nothing wrong with that move, especially given the style of offense they were running, the amount of talent in Texas, and the fact he coached high school there and had great recruiting ties to the state.

That was a good move. Might should have stayed there a bit longer.

The move to Arkansas was the bad move. Arkansas simply isn't the right fit for his HUNH offense, especially coming off the style of Offense that Brett Bielema plays.

He didn't do himself any favors going in there with an Iron fist from the get go. Many kids wanted to still play for Bielema.

I recall one of the first recorded team meetings

Jul 18, 2022, 10:37 PM

where he wanted the players to sit up straight and take their hats off. That seemed to go over like a led balloon.

Jul 19, 2022, 8:34 AM [ in reply to Re: Their offenseive playbook just a got a good bit thicker. ]

Everyone knew from his hiring that his eventual goal was to be a head coach someday. I wasn't aware of some of this.

Jeff needs for try anything at this point, even if Chad is a known journeyman, it’s worth a try.

Really hoping for a break out year for USF. Morris is like a older, left handed MLB pitcher with a good curve ball. He may bounce around a lot, but there’s always a team willing to sign him.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Hopefully he learned how to modify his game plan at halftime

when it clearly isn’t working.

And to not abandon the run game when it’s working. That 2012 UofSuCk loss is on the chad.

Agreed! At TigerDrummer

Also, good for Jeff Scott! Good dude and I wish him the best. He was a heck of a recruiter while he was here. So the numbers posted on how much they have had to lean on the transfer portal are a bit shocking. Especially because he is in football talent-rich Florida.

Could it be what Dabo says: "Clemson sells itself if you can get a kid on campus"?

I think so! You're talking Tampa, Florida! Nice weather and "other nice things" down there. I think the program was probably just in bad shape when he took it over and it's been an uphill battle to try and pull it out of its misery.

Hope it works! And as said above; hope Chad Morris has learned how to adapt when DCs have picked up on what he's trying to do.
He much like Malzahn were "tempo-masters". But, DC and players have adapted to deal with tempo, whereas years ago it "had not been caught up with and caused all kinds of issues and mismatches"! Which ultimately created advantages for the offense.

That Jeff Scott is on the hot seat. He could lose every

Jul 19, 2022, 4:07 PM

game this year and he would be back next year.

(NOTE: USF will not lose every game this year - they will be close to .500)

2023 - if he lost every game in 2022 - his seat would be warmish . . . in 2023, if he wins only 3 to 5 games, he would be back the next year.

2024 - his seat would be warmer if he lost every game in 2022 - he won't - and only won 3 to 5 games in 2023.

Jeff Scott knows his seat is getting warm

Jul 18, 2022, 6:10 PM

and he's got to try everything possible to start winning. While USF just extended his contract 2 more years (through 2026) earlier this year, he's gotta know his leash is getting shorter and the pressure to win is building.

He's won 4, 1 & 2 games in his first 3 seasons. That's not gonna cut it. Another year of 1-2 wins, he could be gone this year, though I think he'd might get 1 more year b/c of the relationship with the AD.

They went deep into the transfer portal the last 3 years, which to me is a sign they are struggling to get the talent they need.

2020 - 15 enrollees and 11 transfers
2021 - 18 enrollees and 9 transfers
2022 - 10 enrollees and 15 transfers

So, they've brought in 35 transfers compared to the 43 players signed over the last 3 years. At some point, these players need to start winning.

Chad should have stayed in the high school ranks in Texas for a while. He was making $141,000 a year there and he still has money from Arkansas.

Re: TNET: Jeff Scott hires former Clemson offensive coordinator Chad Morris at USF

Jul 18, 2022, 8:43 PM

Let's not forget where Clemson's offense was before Morris came to town. His first year saw several school records broken on offense. He took a team that was probably worse than the 2021 offense and turned it into a scoring machine. It could be argued he saved Dabo's job. I realize there were some questions in a few games but he made a huge difference in a positive way.

Re: TNET: Jeff Scott hires former Clemson offensive coordinator Chad Morris at USF

Jul 19, 2022, 8:35 AM

Jeff is throwing a bone to a high floor coach in hopes of some of that ol' Clemson chemistry showing up.
Seat has been getting hot and Jeff desperately needs some offense. Jeff already stated they want up-tempo high play volume game plans, Chads specialty, Chad could help them install it @USF. Seems pretty clear Jeff is fully committed to their current O.C atm. Good luck fellas. GO TIGERS!!!
