Former Clemson guard announces transfer destination

Former Clemson guard Clyde Trapp announced Friday he is using his waiver season to play for the Charlotte 49ers. Trapp originally had said he would explore his NBA options but he had also left the door open transferring out for another year somewhere else. No depth next year and our inside game will be average at best.Any injuries or foul trouble next year will take its toll.

Interesting he would transfer to Charlotte for his last year when he would be guaranteed a decent amount of minutes at Clemson playing I. The ACC. I wonder if he knew honor and Dawes were going to get more minutes next year.

Good luck to him.

He was a starter and the 2nd key option after Simms at the end of the season. no way he was not going to start. Brad never liked playing Dawes and Honor together much let alone start.

Probably doesn't want "decent minutes".
Probably wants 35 minutes.
(Wouldn't you?)
And maybe just a chance to be in a more "free flow" situation. Cut loose a little?...show his stuff?
After 4 years of being a total team guy in a pretty structured sitiation?
I hope he has fun and does well. But we will miss him.

I can only laugh at this!

When he made his big declaration last week, I said he should stick it out and play here with his bonus year except for the fact that he obviously doesn’t believe in the coach or the program and didn’t want to be here. Then you all got your panties in a bunch, attacked me and kept saying he was going to the NBA (haha), or wasn’t in Brad’s plans or would just eventually come back to Clemson. Well guess what, our starting guard would rather go play at hapless Charlotte than for our 5th place ACC Tigers coached by the legendary Brad Brownell, this makes me sick!!! #Clownell

Between transfers and decommits does anyone have a sense of what the roster will look like this coming season? Will we even have the full allotment? I’ve had concerns with this regime for a long time and am not seeing anything to suggest we keep this up. #whenwillitend #whylifecontract #blinders

It is hard to keep a group of 18-22 year olds on the same page. The Beatles broke up, you know. And EVERY school is losing kids to Tranfer Portal these days. EVERY SCHOOL.
It's just musical chairs and every kid is looking for a school where they can play 35 minutes and "showcase their skills" as they say.
Coach Brownell had a difficult task this year trying to manage playing time for 12 pretty decent players. (He's recruited too good?) But NONE of which was a totally consistent standout. No separation. Not even Aamir.
ANY of them, natuarally, could have been better with more playing time. I'm sure ALL OF THEM want more playing time. So I am not sure what the answer is. But I like the idea of Clemson GRIT and running waves of players at opponents. I think that it gives our 12 2 & 3 stars a chance vs. UNC & Duke's 7 man 5 star rotation. But all the subbing also really makes NONE of the players happy. And I can imagine it's hard for them to feel like they ever get in a rhythm.

All the sunshine pumpers that think our bball team is in great hands tried to dismiss all the other outlets saying he was transferring. Said he was gonna test the NBA waters, doesn't sound like the week long test worked out too well.

There is a problem in the house when 2 almost guaranteed starters leave a D1 Power 5 ACC bball program to go play for UNC - Greensboro and Charlotte. Normally starters for those programs would be looking to join an ACC team, not the other way around.

I like CBB, wish he was the man for Clemson, but he isn't. It's time for a change. We need a more exciting brand of bball, something to get the fans engaged. We could have the exact same results in the W-L's but if the team was fun to watch the fanbase would be much more enthusiastic about our team. That would bring more fans and improve the atmosphere. CBB has had long enough and its time for new experience.

Look, even Saban had to learn how to play RPO and high scoring football to keep the recruits coming and keep fans excited.
