Re: TNET: ESPN analyst sees DJ Uiagalelei as potential 'real difference maker' at next stop

So... if he doesn't do what got him benched, then he'll be a great pick-up for someone. Yeah, well, if he didn't do what got him benched then... he wouldn't have gotten benched!

The problem for DJ isn't talent - it's consistency. He just can't get it for whatever reason. That's what any future team will have to contend with.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

well whatever it is...

Dec 8, 2022, 1:49 PM

it wasn't working here. I truly hope he has success going forward, unless he plays us of course.

DJ has a Million Dollar Arm...

...and a five cent head.

You can't fix that.

If he had of done those things differently at Clemson, he wouldn't be looking for another team right now would he, duuuhhhh!!!! Laying all the jabs on DJ aside, I do believe that a good QB coach could do good things with DJ as a QB. The kid has all the tangibles for making a serviceable NFL QB. He has the height for looking over the O line, he has the husky build to absorb the abuse, he has the big hands, and he can zip the ball when needed, he just needs to learn when he needs that zip. A real QB coach would have a pretty easy task of putting DJ on the right path to becoming a decent NFL QB, IMO!!!

LMFAO, DJU will never make it in the NFL !! On his best day, he'd be lucky to win the underhand Dr. Pepper football toss !!! LOL

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Physical ability, yes, but he doesn't have it between the ears.

Dec 9, 2022, 8:42 PM [ in reply to Re: TNET: ESPN analyst sees DJ Uiagalelei as potential 'real difference maker' at next stop ]

Seems to be very fragile mentally and does not quickly go through progressions, and I don't know how much you can speed up how fast one process is information.

When he is on, he's amazing

Dec 8, 2022, 4:12 PM [ in reply to Re: TNET: ESPN analyst sees DJ Uiagalelei as potential 'real difference maker' at next stop ]

for one pass, a few ok, a granny pass, back to ok, then back to amazing.

When he's off, granny passes and passes only 10 ft tall receivers can catch.

Yeah, it's called the 'it' factor and it has been proven the last 2 rears that DJ never had it.

Ole Greg has a real grasp of the obvious...

Dec 8, 2022, 1:49 PM

Hey Greg, if DJ could so all of those things, he'd still be the starter and Clemson would be headed back to the CFP.

Re: Ole Greg has a real grasp of the obvious...

Dec 8, 2022, 1:58 PM

Was that a subtle hint when he said "get the right pieces around him".

Wish him nothing but the best. Hopefully getting closer to home will help him relax. Maybe somewhere like a San Diego st, Fresno st that has no pressure to make the cfp.

Will it be telling on Streeter if he goes elsewhere and corrects all that. I'm asking, not stating a fact.

Re: Ole Greg has a real grasp of the obvious...

Dec 8, 2022, 2:10 PM

Yes his next stint will be a real indication of whether he gets in his own way or he just didn’t have the right person to develop him. Time is the true test.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I read an article...

Dec 8, 2022, 2:18 PM [ in reply to Re: Ole Greg has a real grasp of the obvious... ]

that listed the five best transfer fits for DJ. They were:

1 - UCLA
2 - Arizona State
3 - Virginia
4 - Notre Dame
5 - Oregon

I don't think DJ is a good enough runner or accurate enough passer to fit the scheme either that UCLA or Oregon runs. DJ is just not a dual threat QB. He's more of a pro-style QB who needs to work on his accuracy and pocket awareness. Just my opinion.

Thanks to both you and marine for the response.
Just seems like everyone is going dual threat these days. Which makes sense. Thanks again. Wish him the best.

I have never believed that Streeter was a college QB coach, and I thought that Trevor was a better QB his 1st and 2nd season over his last season, and that was before Streeter had a less chances to start screwing with his mechanics. Same with DW4, his stats were worse his last season than his first two.

My thoughts exactly. We should reexamine our QB coaches. Deshaun dipped a little his last year but still remained amazing. Trevor was worse his last 2 years.

Re: Ole Greg has a real grasp of the obvious...

Dec 9, 2022, 5:59 AM [ in reply to Re: Ole Greg has a real grasp of the obvious... ]

You might be asking, but the facts are if all the if's that McElroy threw out there get corrected, then it will certainly be telling. Not only will it be telling for Streeter, but it would be telling for Elliot. DJ actually looked worse last year.

To this point none of our QB's have left and thrived. Bryant did OK for a little bit, but then faded. The most successful would probably be Chase Brice, but it took him 2 transfers, and at ASU the competition is not quite as good. However, DJ has had significant playing time and will be judged differently because of it.

The right pieces would involve a WR room full of Plastic Man clones who could pluck errant passes out of the sky.

Grey has been reading Tnet

Dec 8, 2022, 2:49 PM [ in reply to Ole Greg has a real grasp of the obvious... ]

I spit my tea out when I read Greg’s comments about the improvements that DJ needs to make. I have a question for Greg. Which coach is going to coddle DJ like Dabo did?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Grey has been reading Tnet

Dec 8, 2022, 3:55 PM

That is what I have been thinking too. What coach is going to have the patience and understanding to nurture him through his insecurities like Dabo did? Very few coaches would take the time to do that. If DJ transfers, he better realize he will be on his own and needs to fix what is wrong on his own initiative. Great comment C-gal!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Grey has been reading Tnet

Dec 9, 2022, 6:07 AM [ in reply to Grey has been reading Tnet ]

You make the assumption that he needs to be coddled. I think that most of Dabo's comments were for Dabo. DJ has said all of the right things and off the field, done all of the right things. I think that DJ needs some help developing the ability to forget a bad play, but I don't think that he needs to be babied in the least.

Re: Ole Greg has a real grasp of the obvious...

Dec 8, 2022, 4:25 PM [ in reply to Ole Greg has a real grasp of the obvious... ]

He dumped on him and Clemson all year. Now in the portal, he thinks he could be great. I sincerely hope he is. However, Greg flips as quick as Streeter with what he says (not ready/has been ready).

2024 white level membermilitary_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

old greg mcelroy. ESPN analyst is what he thinks he is, reality is he is a d level announcer that is tied to old joe. Together they are joe and blow.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So DJ needs the right pcs around him?

Dec 8, 2022, 2:22 PM

Almost sounds like a crack at Streeter, definitely didn't give any credit to Streeter for developing DJ

Gonna be a big pill to swallow if DJ goes elsewhere and he plays the season as good as his freshman games. If that happens Dabo better be willing to make some changes if he doesn't after this season ends. I think we need a QB coach even if Streeter is still our OC this coming season because there has been zero development of any QBs he has coached over his tenure. They all have thrown more INTs than they do during their Freshman yr.

Re: TNET: ESPN analyst sees DJ Uiagalelei as potential 'real difference maker' at next stop

Dec 8, 2022, 2:28 PM

Actually you could take all the caveats McElroy listed for DJ to have success and apply them to any player on the team - don’t lock in on one receiver, get through progressions, throw more accurately, etc etc etc - and turn a safety or tight end into a successful QB. The contortions people are twisting themselves into to find a silver lining for this guy as a QB just make me shake me head. The guy can’t throw a spiral 65% of the time and can’t read a D either pre or post snap and isn’t accurate. The QB discussion stops there.

Ole Greggy 'Game Manager ' McElroy (GM squared for short) never ceases to amaze me with his pure genius. Well, uh, DJ is going to be awesome as long as he doesn't do a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h,I,j,k...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I've heard a few CFB talking heads in podcasts

Dec 8, 2022, 2:36 PM

that still don't believe all of our struggles were due to DJ and still think our offensive scheme is bad. They also still aren't sold on Streeter as an OC or QB coach.

It makes sense that anyone with those opinions would still have optimism for DJ in a new system with new coaches.

I guess we will see how things go with Klubnik and DJ elsewhere.

Re: I've heard a few CFB talking heads in podcasts

I am beginning to believe that the scheme was bad because the playbook had been simplified for DJ. I need to watch the upcoming Orange Bowl to see which plays are called.

Same here.

I think the "playbook" required processing and decision making, which DJ might have struggled with. Based on a small sample size, Cade appears to process (and act) more quickly.

Oh, DJ will be a difference maker all right… Hopefully in a more positive way than he was for us.

I saw something that had him as the #1 transfer QB, which to anyone who watched the last two years is downright insane.

Yeah, if you surrounded him with OSU’s WR’s and O-line, maybe his performance improves, but if a QB needs the best talent in the country to be successful, is he really that good?

Dec 8, 2022, 7:51 PM

Dan Orlovsky, who I love as an analyst, said “watching the ball come out of Klubnik’s hands while on the field for pregame warmups I couldn’t help but think that’s the way a ball should look when thrown by a big time qB.” He said nothing about the fact that DJ could throw the ball out of the stadium or threw a wall. Watching the game on Saturday the first thing I noticed was that Klubnik throws a catchable ball. I’m not a football coach I don’t know the terminology but there is a reason our great receivers suddenly couldn’t catch DJ passes? It’s not simply because he threw too hard thoug

Just don't continue messing up the same things you have struggled with for two years and you'll be a great QB for someone...

How bout, put him in a more suitable offense? Take away the RPO and give him an O'line he can take a nap behind.
