transferring creates these ugly situations

im sure DJ didnt volunteer these jabs, he was probably prompted by the same question over and over again

but he coulda been smarter

What he failed to say that he should of said, was that Dabo insisted that he was the starting QB regardless of how bad DJ was as our starting QB. I mean if you're going to tell the facts, Dabo being stubborn of the fact that DJ was the starting QB even though there was another 5 star QB in line behind DJ that wasn't being developed bc of Dabo's insistence that DJ was the starter even though he couldn't move the ball down field, and DJ couldn't find the wide open receivers when they were actually wide open, and DJ chose to pull the ball down and run 3 feet before he fell down bc he felt a hand touch him!!!! It was my opinion that we had a couple of QBs that would have been better starting QBS over DJ Uiagalelei....

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

DJ needs to look in the mirror and say this: "I could not

11

May 17, 2023, 11:21 AM

even successfully execute the most BASIC plays that WERE being called. Why on earth would the coaches think that I could handle more COMPLICATED stuff?"

He is talking himself into some deluded revisionist history. But, as Muckleroy said, whatever, he just needs to move on. If it was Clemson's fault, he will show out at Oregon State in their better, more complicated offense, move on the the NFL, become an All-Pro, and shoot rainbows and unicorns out of his butt.

Or, history may repeat itself at Oregon State, which is much more likely. That is, if he even wins and keeps the starting job. That, my friends, is certainly not a foregone conclusion, unless they don't want to incur the ralph of Big Dave.

I would have thought he might have waited until he actually played a couple of games in the new system and seen how he did before making those comments. It very well may come back to bite him.

Everyone needs to move on … the DJ/Streeter era is over

5

May 17, 2023, 11:24 AM

We made the change to a more dynamic, innovative offensive coaching approach and DJ made the change to a place on the other side of the country where he will have the chance to either thrive or fail in what he sees as a more conducive environment.

For both Clemson and DJ, it should become evident pretty quickly this fall if the changes made provide the answers.

So, I'm guessing that you have more talent than him, couch coach? He'll eventually be somewhere whether it's a backup or starter in the NFL and you will still be sitting on your couch "coaching"!

He'll never even sniff professional football.

DJ has size & strength but he will never start a game in the NFL. He doesn't have the mental capacity to read coverages or make adjustments. He wasn't accurate in H.S or at Clemson. He throws a beautiful spiral but that's not gonna be enough to get drafted IMO. He's gonna have to put up some big numbers this year to even have a chance. I wish him the best. Go Tigers!!!

Coach Swinney was very patient and trusting during DJ's tenure. However, trust is eroded when DJ was throwing to trainers near the bench along the sidelines. That was a frustration for receivers.

Was DJ the problem when Tennessee beat the brakes off of us? I thought the great Cade was the quarterback during that fiasco. The receivers did great finishing routes, catching balls, etc. He didn't run backwards 15 yards to avoid a sack at all. But, I guess blame DJ since he was still a part of the team.

DJ was a major problem but far from the only problem. O Line, receivers, secondary, all play a part. And when they get outside of the ACC they get embarrassed. Tennessee beat us with a second string offense - Notre Dame absolutely dominated Clemson on both sides of the ball. Cade is better than DJ but there are 85 guys on scholarship that need to perform at a higher level to play with the elite. Cade won't be the weak link on this team - likely will be a strength.

Really? We can't win outside the ACC ? 44-16 Clemson over Alabama for the 2018 National Championship. And if Dabo hadn't pulled the starters on that last drive it would have been 51-16 possibly. Also, we destroyed Notre Dame in the Semi Final game! Are you a USuC supporter.

I think Cade would have looked better had he been given more meaningful snaps earlier in the season. He should have played the second half of those games. Instead, the coaches wanted to give DJ confidence.

We put up huge numbers against UT but our play calling inside the 40 was awful. We abandoned the run at the worst times. They beat us on the scoreboard but we killed em on the statsheet so I wouldn't say they destroyed us. I put that L on our coaches more than anything, mainly Streeter. We had plenty enough offense to win that game. Go Tigers!!!

3

Dj couldn't complete a 5 yard swing pass. There is a reason our offense looked different when Cade came in. In my opinion our vanilla offense was too complicated for Dj. If you can't read a defense and make quick decisions on where to throw the ball you are not going to succeed as a qb. News flash, dj didn't succeed as a qb because he couldn't do any of that.

OSU is a bottom feeder in the PAC12. They haven't won the conference since 1964. ( 60 years ) DJ won't change that. It reminds me of Hunter Johnson leaving for Northwestern. I wish him well nonetheless.

Let's assume DJ is a "good guy". I've known plenty of good guys in my lifetime. Not many, if any, possessed the ability to lead a power 5 football team. There is one thing he said I agree with. Streeter and Dabo should have called more plays where he was under center. That way he would be closer to the opposing defense, and it would be easier to just hand the ball to them. To he77 with the 3 and out. First down play...snap the ball, reach across the center and hand it to the first player he sees with a different jersey. Eazy peazy

Does anyone here remember the play where big Stinko dropped back, got his feet under him, raised his arms preparing to throw, and spun the ball in his right hand? The ball came loose and I believe he recovered it for a loss. I could be wrong about the fumble recovery. Ship may have landed on it. That is what is called an unforced error. Spinning the ball a la Harlem globetrotter is not in anyone's playbook. Streeter's , Elliot's, Dabo's etc.. my pop asked me one time when I was young and he saw me trying to spin a basketball on my finger, "son, how many points do you get for that?" Of course, I said "none".
Do you guys catch my drift?

May 17, 2023, 7:01 PM

Yes, the offense was bad and predictable. Yes Streeter was poor at game planning and adjusting. However, those problems were exaggerated because DJ was so bad. His limitations combined with Streeter killed the offense. DJ couldn't even complete simple passes to open receivers.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I cannot argue with him

2

May 17, 2023, 7:31 PM

However, both sides share some of the blame. It’s usually the case when the player in question is just not a good fit and a coordinator is also not a good fit for the program. However, I also have to agree with McElroy in saying that our WR play has been somewhat lacking. Facts are facts and the stats don’t lie.

Re: TNET: ESPN analyst calls Uiagalelei Clemson comments 'very valid' but advises him to move on

May 23, 2023, 1:07 PM

My ignorant 2 cents. I think it is true that we underestimate wide receiver talent in college making even an average qb look like a superstar. Many college superstar qb's were found to look dazzling because of their underpinning team talent and were total duds in the pro's. the list is far longer than those that made it. I am sure that aspect hurt DJ's performance. Confidence has everything to do with future mistakes. If you think they have you out there because they think they owe you vs thinking you are the man that just sets you up to make even more mistakes.

The flipside is that you have to do better than hitting the broad side of the barn which at times was all DJ seemed to be able to do. Short range at 15 yards a large area of hitting a car tire is probably not accurate enough which also seemed to be the level of his accuracy.

Lastly, we all know Streeters lackluster offensive scheme was a problem even for Klubnic. I truly hope this new offense hits the magic for DJ and he achieves his dream. I suspect it won't happen, but we'll see won't we.
