there are 7.5 Billion people on this planet at last count. Watson was given the opportunity at least 24 times to do a lot of practicing to ensure that he has the know how to add to that count. Don't understand the discussion.

He should have settled two years ago when this first emerged.
It would have cost him less money, except for 3 or 4 of them.
Legally he will not be charged, but the Woke DA in Houston wants to charge him with a crime for the women.

The NFL will probably suspend him for a year, which means 2 years off the field, but he still made over $50 Million.
They want to make an example of him for ‘women’s issues’, Woke punishment……
Hopefully he comes back healthy and sharp. He is learning an expensive lesson about being rich!
Good luck DW4…..

Punishing people for sexual assault isn’t a woke principle. What he did to those women is disgusting, those are daughters/sisters/mothers.

It means no criminal charges. It doesn't mean nothing happened.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

And you know exactly happened?

Jun 26, 2022, 11:13 PM

You said it yourself. It wasn’t criminal.

Where do you draw the line at punishing people that haven’t done any thing criminal? That’s a very slippery slope. And he has been proven innocent, not once, but twice. Under what grounds do you suspend or fine him?

We’re now punishing people based on accusations?

This is a dangerous precedent for the NFL.

People are now guilty until proven innocent?

And even when you are found not guilty you still get punished?

I’m pretty sure he’s been punished enough in the court of public opinion. He has already been out a year and lost that money. His reputation is totally destroyed and he will probably never make money again from endorsements. And he’s going to pay millions in private settlements.

But you want to punish him more?

Re: And you know exactly happened?

Jun 27, 2022, 12:35 PM

What a braindead comment. A few things:

1. Sexual assault is exceptionally hard to prove in a criminal court of law. He wasn't found not guilty, nor has he been found innocent. The grand jury declined to indict. Those are not the same thing.

2. False claims of sexual assault are exceedingly rare. The notion that one person would encounter more than 25 false claims is absolutely ludicrous.

3. "Innocent until proven guilty" is a criminal saying, not a civil saying. Enacting civil punishments without proving guilt in criminal court is not inconsistent with that mantra.

4. The NFL has routinely punished people for actions that did not result in criminal conviction. Their bar is not criminal conviction nor should it be.

5. Watson did not miss out on getting paid last year. He was paid every penny of his base contract to not play a down of football.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

OK Junior

Jun 27, 2022, 6:16 PM

1. Make up your mind are we in a court of law or grand jury? He was cleared by the grand jury. Twice. So not sure why are you bringing up an actual trial.

Clearly you have no clue how a grand jury works. There’s a reason for the expression you can convict a ham sandwich. A grand jury is overwhelmingly and exceedingly biased against the defendant. It should be unconstitutional. That’s why almost everyone that goes before a grand jury actually ends up having a trial. Because it violates due process.

Watson walked away from not one, but two grand juuri. That is exceedingly rare.

There’s no evidence or even a convincing argument from the women accused that he did anything criminal.

2. I hate to break it to you because clearly you are a feminist or someone pretty far left, but it is a known fact that women lie routinely about rape and assault. They lie left and right about sexual harassment. You look at a woman wrong today and they scream sexual-harassment. Grow up! That’s why the Me Too movement didn’t last very long. It was a joke.

And Watson was not accused of rape or assault. As far as I know everything has been basically some varying degree of sexual harassment. That’s not even remotely the same thing as assault or rape.

3. Whether he was paid or not for this past year I’m not sure. I was thinking he was not. If he was OK so be it. He still had to sit out a year and his reputation has been ruined and he’ll never make money as a paid endorser in the future regardless of how great he is on the football field. So if you think the man hasn’t been punished enough for something that he hasn’t been found guilty of and there’s no credible evidence for then maybe you should re-examine your motives. And he is going to pay these women a lot of money despite the fact that they were not raped or assaulted. And I would be willing to bet that some of them jumped on the bandwagon because they saw easy money.

4. I have seen a few players suspended for maybe a game or two for something they did on the field or maybe they did something off the field but normally it’s things that are clearly in the rules. This is under the morals clause which is nebulous at best. And considering (again) that he walked away from a grand jury twice and the fact that he has missed a year of football, I can’t see justification for a suspension. And if it were me I would sue the hell out of the NFL. Because you don’t suspend someone for a year or even multiple games, over accusations!

The NFL needs to stay out of civil matters. It’s not their lane. This is the NFL caving to the woke mob and going after people for political and social reasons.

Do you have a shred of evidence beyond accusations against Watson?

Do I think he’s an idiot and let his ego cloud his judgment? Yes. Do I think he was stupid and did some things? Absolutely. But he did not rape anyone and he did not commit assault. He doesn’t need any more punishment from the NFL. He has suffered disproportionately for his sins already, including what he’s going to end up paying these women. If you disagree you might wanna look in the mirror and think about your motives.

1. I know exactly what a grand jury is. Which is why I know the only reason he walked away is because the prosecutor wanted him to based on how hard a conviction would be. You clearly don't know what a grand jury is or how criminal court works based on the repeated claim that he's been "found/proven innocent". He hasn't. Declination to indict does not mean innocent.

2. I'm sure you can support such a statement with data correct? The vast majority of the literature on the matter strongly disagrees with you so why are your feelings a better source? Also Watson absolutely was accused of sexual assault.

3. The NFL has stated they believe 5 of the cases can be proven and will be focusing on those. You keep asking me to check my motives but maybe you should consider yours. Would you be so ardently defending Watson if he had played for UGA or South Carolina? You don't really need to answer because we all know what your answer is.

4. Ezekial Elliott was suspended 6 games for effectively nothing. And by signing his contract Watson agreed to give the NFL authority over his suspension per the conduct policy. This is absolutely their lane.

You can keep asking if I have evidence, and what I have is an understanding of sexual assault victims and psychology that you refuse to learn that's ample evidence when the standard isn't criminal court, which the NFL doesn't and shouldn't have to adhere to. It's your choice to believe what you want, after all it's your pretty typical he said/she said she said she said she said she said she said she said she said she said she said she said she said she said she said she said she said she said she said she said she said she said she said she said she said matter.

1. At the Grand Jury Level it is not difficult to prove anything . Actually all you have to do is show that something criminal might have happened.
Two different jury’s said there is not enough evidence to even proceed!
2. Other than taking PED’s who has the NFL suspended where criminal charges were not charged?

Jun 26, 2022, 11:00 PM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Deshaun Watson's NFL disciplinary hearing set for Tuesday ]

He was a bad boy for sure. He definitely in some way shape or form sexually harassed women. But he did not sexually assault anyone.

There’s an old expression that you can indict a ham sandwich. Things like FISA, grand jury’s, etc. are blatantly unconstitutional and exceedingly one-sided under the due process clause and equal protection clause. I can’t believe these things haven’t been outlawed decades ago. That being said, Watson went through that process not once, but twice in two different counties. Both times he was found innocent.

This is now a civil matter and a “he said, she said”.

Frankly I think he should sue the NFL if they suspend him. He hasn’t broken the law. And that’s been proven twice.

The NFL has known murderers and rapists playing. Guys that have beaten their wives and girlfriends to within an inch of their lives. Guys that have raped people. But they want to suspend Watson?

This is political. This is a pound of flesh for the woke mob.

I am ambivalent for sure

Jun 26, 2022, 6:30 PM

On the one-hand, two separate criminal grand juries heard testimonies from the ten plaintiffs selected by attorney Busbee as the most credible. Busbee had a year to advertise for/recruit plaintiffs, listen & compare plaintiff stories, and craft & create new plaintiff stories to develop patterns. And still, both Texas grand juries declined to press charges -- not even a misdemeanor charge. There is some gold digging in play.

On the other hand, the leaks and texts from Busbee's office have been devastating to Watson's image. He is as toxic to the media and much of the general public as Vladmir Putin, Donald Trump, Joe Biden or Amanda Heard ... pick your poison. In time the level of hate will diminish, but the character questions, innuendos and cat calls will always be there even if DW4 holds on for a 15-20 year career.

So how does Watson deal with it? Being hated and booed at games, in public, and everywhere for many years to come. He should mainly blame himself, but also his agent and legal representation were asleep on the job. His callow and immature behavior, and inability to distinguish that not all massage therapists are hookers, have hurt him immeasurably. Money will insulate him to some degree. But so many potential dates, potential friends, potential advertisers and potential business partners will ostracize and avoid a still very young 26-year old Watson for the rest of his life. The playing field will be his sanctuary -- where he can still achieve greatness on the field. But off the field will be more difficult. Prayers are with him ...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I’m confused

Jun 27, 2022, 8:01 AM

Some of you good folks are missing the key ingredient to this case. It's called the NFL Code of Conduct which basically means that every league employee falls under that umbrella once they sign any league contract. This has absolutely nothing to do with the normal legal process. If NFL investigations surmise (not prove) that a player, owner or coach has tarnished the image of his franchise, team city or the league itself, then according to the Code of Conduct, punishment can be meted out at the discretion of the league office. Innocent until proven guilty is out the window in these cases because those under NFL contracts are held to a higher standard than the average Joe. Actually, this is no different than the way public school teachers are held accountable to a higher moral standard that most folks in the community. For many years, teachers in small towns would do their drinking and carousing in a neighboring city while understanding that discretion could help save their jobs. At best, Watson is guilty of massive, egotistical stupidity without a second thought for the repercussions felt by the people and places that helped him get where he was before this all came out. At the worst, he is a cold, calculating sexual predator who made sure that these women were alone (his instructions through social media, making sure they were alone, didn't want traditional draping during massage, apologizing for making one cry etc., is how the NFL will bust him on CC policy) with no other witnesses, while he allegedly pleasured himself. Regardless of the outcome of his suspension and remaining civil suits, Deshaun Watson has stained the NFL with his actions and he will eventually pay a heavy price in the way he is remembered, no matter how much money he earns. It saddens me that arguably the greatest football player in Tiger history may be known more for this situation than for his magnificent play on the field, both at Clemson and in the NFL.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We all get it. You’re the one missing the boat.

Jun 27, 2022, 12:05 PM

You yourself used the word accusations.

Even under a code of conduct you cannot punish someone for accusations. Watson should sue the hell out of the NFL if they make him sit out even one game.

If you’re punishing people for accusations of things that were done off the field that had nothing to do with football you doing it for one reason and one reason only. Politics.

I have no problem with a morals clause in contracts. I have no problem with punishing players under that clause for any reason. Assuming of course they are actually guilty and been proven guilty. Doing it based purely on accusations get you sued!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Except it isn’t based on accusations. They do their own investigation.

Jun 27, 2022, 1:01 PM

If, through that investigation (during which they have access to more info than you have), they find he violated the policy they can suspend him accordingly. It’s really pretty simple.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The timeline

Jun 27, 2022, 8:22 AM

I looked it up and found that Watson met with at least 66 women over a course of 17 months. That is an average of 2.6 per month. I have not found a detail on location of the women. We know that nothing criminal happened because of two grand juries. Watson is also single so no marital cheating occurred. I have not found the number, but some of the 66 women testified that nothing inappropriate happened during their message session. So we are talking about a third of his encounters with women in a message setting during that time.

What has Watson done that is wrong? Are the other single NFL guys not looking for one night hookups? The NFL owners that have been caught have gotten a slap on the wrist. Every one of those women had the opportunity to turn around and WALK OUT if they were uncomfortable.

The NFL is going to slam Watson with a heavy suspension because of the METOO movement. The suspension will be reduced because of the double standard that was applied to the owners.
