It's where I thought we would be.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Think this meansTigers are basically out of the Top 4.

Nov 22, 2022, 7:20 PM

Too bad but never was a team as string week to week as some above us, imho.

And to matters worse UNC lost their lofty #10 ranking which could have been #8 bt timexwe played them in ACCCG.

Getting no breaks this year!

Leaving us behind a 2-loss, no-division-winning Alabama tells you all you need to know about what the committee thinks of Clemson and the ACC. A conference championship means nothing unless they want it to. We'd have to see LSU, TCU, USC, and Michigan lose and hope they don't still try and slip the loser of MI-OSU, GA-LSU, or Alabama ahead of us.

Not surprised at all but disappointed in these rankings. Sometimes playing in a weak ACC works for us and sometimes it works against us...

2024 purple level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No respect at all! Still holding ND against us, but

Nov 22, 2022, 8:06 PM

perfectly willing to overlook BOTH losses of LSU and Bama. They’re setting it up just how they want it and don’t want little old Clemson spoiling their playoff party. SMH. I hope Dabo uses this week’s CFP ranking as bulletin-board material and our dudes run up the score on the po’ widdle cockypoos to show what our team thinks of the “mighty” SEC. I think 72-0 ought to send a pretty clear message. Heck, why not make it 80-0 to go along with our 8-0 run! Come on Tigers!!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: No respect at all! Still holding ND against us, but

Nov 22, 2022, 9:10 PM

I think it's more about how we lost. We poo pooed the bed against ND, all we had to do was lose close - we win, we are in good shape. LSU is in the $EC, all things even, they get the nod. $EC is better top to bottom than ACC, no 2 ways about it.

Nov 22, 2022, 8:09 PM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Clemson's updated College Football Playoff ranking released ]

I think if we beat Usc by a couple of scores and that is a big "if" then there is no way next week we should be behind Bama and Lsu because they both loss to UT and we beat the team that stomp their tails.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I’d bet the house that we jump Alabama if we both win out.

Nov 22, 2022, 8:19 PM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Clemson's updated College Football Playoff ranking released ]

They will put weight to the fact that we are a conference champ and we will jump them.

As others have said, if we win out and don’t get in, we have no one to blame but ourselves. An effort like we had against and will do that.

BUT

I certainly see a legit chance.

UGA beats LSU
Ohio St beats Michigan
Notre Dame beats USC
We jump Bama as a conference champ

All possible.

Clemson must control the controllables. We need to take it to South Carolina and NC.

We would have to beat the absolute dog squeeze out of the coots and NC to have a shot. Ain't our year, ladies. ND was the must win - and we didn't

That's total B U L L Chit, a loss is a loss, and a win is a win. There is never a thing called a close loss is like a win, or a bad loss equals two losses, and that's exactly what they're saying with the two losses that Bama has. It's all a word game they like to play to convince a majority, and that's all that it is!!!

All this speculation about sneaking into the CFP after losses by the top-rated teams is entertaining. And no question that this year, anyway, the committee is definitely biased against us. We love our Tiguhs, but I have to ask a basic question: Do you think our team is good enough to be in the CFP this year? Really. Do you? I would not be surprised if all I heard was crickets after asking that one. . . .

And when it comes to quarterbacks, I suggest you call up Southern Cal QB Caleb Williams on YouTube. One video you will find includes a TD bomb he threw against Stanford. Basically, three-quarters the length of the field to Jordan Addison. Williams dropped a perfect pass right into Addison’s outstretched hands with a Stanford defender on his back. We Tiguh fans have not seen a play like that—not one—in two years, yet at the elite level, you have to have a QB who can do that in order to keep the opposing team’s defense always a little off balance.

But we ARE going to whup the coots on Saturday. Go Tiguhs!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I mean, the question answers itself.

Nov 23, 2022, 1:37 PM

If the things I described happen, yes, of course I think so.

Given that scenario, who else?

You'd have an undefeated Big Ten champ in Ohio State, an undefeated SEC champ in UGA, an undefeated Big 12 champ in TCU. Then who else deserves it more?

Michigan, who played no one and didn't even make it to the conference championship?
Three loss LSU?
Two loss Southern Cal?
Two loss Bama who didn't even make their conference championship?

Sure we fell on our face against ND, but if ND beats USC, that means we had a horrible game and lost at night on the road against what will probably be a top 12 team.

We would have beaten ranked FSU, ranked UNC, currently ranked Louisville (uh, wut?), previously ranked NC State (the committee knows NCSU was solid when we played them...they lost their starting QB) and top 40-ish South Carolina and Wake. We absolutely owned Miami, statistically and on the score board. Crushed BC. Our resume is solid and I'd put it up against any potential four seed given the above description.

I mean, congrats to USC's QB for throwing a good pass...I guess that's something too. But that wouldn't change the fact that they had two losses.

No, this incorrect. The committee does not figure conference champions into the rankings until they are actually won. This has been clearly demonstrated over the life of the playoff.

Greg is right in the fact it's not our fault the ACC can't keep themselves upright and walk a straight line. But it is our fault for being blasted by Notre Dame. Just gotta hope everything plays out the right way for us to sneak in. Michigan, USC, TCU, & LSU need to lose these next 2 weeks which is still very possible. We win out, we will 100% jump over the majority of those guys and sneak a #3-4 spot. Go Tigers!

i want Clemson and TCU to win out. Ohio State and Michigan both lose head to head then other in title game. Will have win over USC and FSU then beat Tennessee and LSU that should help us. Southern Cal could lose twice ND and PAC 12 title game. UGA TCU CLEMSON .. BIG 10 maybe if OSU win UM but lose title game Oregon sneaks in.

I personally think it is BS to be behind two 2-loss teams

Nov 22, 2022, 8:18 PM

but I can certainly understand the committees hesitancy on Clemson. That Notre Dame loss is completely on us and was about as bad as it gets when comparing it to other top 10 team losses.

Also - we have not played a complete dominating game this year. We've flashed our potential on both sides of the ball at times but the only consistent thing about Clemson this year has been our inconsistency on the field.

The Miami game this past weekend is a prime example of our inconsistent offensive norm this year. We played great offense the first two quarters just to sputter for all of the third quarter and a portion of the fourth quarter. Can't blame the CFP committee for having some lingering doubts as to Clemson and our ability to stack up among the top 4.

The bias is out there for all to see and it is disgusting. Let’s just go back to a computer as this committee has lost all legitimacy.

LSU got boat raced by UT at home and lost to a team we had beat handily.

Also need the buckeyes to beat Michigan.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Total BS!

Nov 22, 2022, 9:07 PM

LSU and Bama ahead of us is absurd. Tenn beat them, whom just got crushed by a bad team. FSU beat LSU, a team we beat pretty easily and is now ranked in the middle of 25. Lost to a ranked team.

Hopefully ND wails on USC Saturday! That would be great for us!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Total BS!

Nov 22, 2022, 9:48 PM

SEC Bias drives me crazy…. Theee teams in top 10 with 2 losses. Tennessee got CRUSHED way worse than Clemson did by ND for second loss AND stay in top 10. ###! There is just no legitimacy in how they pick these rankings.

Clemson has to earn their spot by winning out, but when the deck is stacked againts you because you don’t play in SEC, it’s BS.

NC, Can't argue with that. If that had been a respectable game instead of a spectacle, we would be ahead of both Bama and LSU. I still have no rationale explan ation for that performance.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: Clemson's updated College Football Playoff ranking released

Nov 22, 2022, 11:29 PM

OK, let's get rid of the two-loss teams first. LSU loses to UGA and Bama sits at home on championship weekend. That is when we will pass by those two.

Then two out of the following three things needs to happen:

Michigan loses to OSU - very possible
(I think Mich schedule is so weak, that unless it is a real nailbiter, they are out)
TCU drops one of their last two - very possible
USC drops one of their last two - very possible

Of course all of this in contingient on us continuing to improve and winning both of our games in convincing fashion. Go Tigers.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: Clemson's updated College Football Playoff ranking released

Nov 23, 2022, 12:02 AM

You can make circular arguments all day- FSU beat LSU and we beat LSU with another loss to a team that got taken to the woodshed by a mediocre Coot team.....yet we are behind them. Same with Bamma...
What is interesting to me is how we went from perhaps overrated at #4 to the red-headed stepchild due to one loss. The Notre Dame team that beat us doesn't even resemble the one that lost to OSU (and yes, Marshall) so don't count them out against USC - they have a name but aren't that good and I can't imagine LSU not taking a loss to UGA and surely we will pass AL IF we show up and dominate the next two weeks - nothing else will do. Better be a big OSU and ND fan this week - assuming we take care of business.
A lot can and will still happen! This is why I don't really like 12 teams - if you have 12 then everyone we are talking about is already in so the last games mean very little. Our game means nothing (outside of the state bragging rights) as long as we beat UNC. OSU vs Mich means absolutely nothing and so forth.
Until next week I guess we can again reassess the rankings....for now BEAT THE COOTS TIGERS

2024 orange level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Moving up with style point wins against he last two

Nov 23, 2022, 5:45 AM

Coots did us a big favor by trouncing Tennessee because it got them out of our way and will make a big win against the coots look much better.

Conference championships matter to the committee and we will have one, god willing. When both of those things are counted in, anything may happen.

Many people are overly impressed with offense only and forget about the rest of the game.

Game control is what matters.
