We're competing for a championship today?

I'm an engineer, not an English scholar, but I'm pretty sure there is a memory in my brain of an English teacher chastising me about misplaced modifiers or something like that.

Basically, put the "on Tuesday" at the start of the sentence, not at the end.

The narrative of the media seems very positively about TAMU.

Last year TAMU lost 4 games. In 2022, the Aggies will start a new guy at QB and will choose from freshmen, sophs and a transfer to fill that roll. The Aggies will play Arkansas in Dallas, Bama at Bama, Auburn at Auburn.

Jimbo has been at TAMU four years and in 3 of those 4 years, he has lost 4 or 5 games.

Seems to me like ESPN is betting on the NIL to make the Aggies better than they have been since the 1930s. Or perhaps ESPN has some self serving purpose for predicting great success for the aggies.

Maybe it's not a conspiracy?

We were bad, now we're not; is it that crazy to suggest a team with a talented roster could compete, even in a competitive league?

I don't think it's a conspiracy is all, & if anyone is the biggest beneficiary it's us here at Clemson; Notre Dame, for example, doesn't control our destiny by nature & is still likely the toughest team on the schedule & the next-best on this future's ranking, know what I mean?

Any team in that conference gets the benefit of the doubt. It just means so much more in the secheat.

Will be interesting to see what happens when/if they end their division play like is being talked about, Georgia will have to play a tougher conference schedule than the current east division.

GLAD YOU TOOK THE TIME TO POINT THAT OUT!

They have no choice

They have to get rid of divisions, so it's happening.

But to be fair, it's happening across the sport, too, & eventually in every conference. The ACC already announced it for us, too, albeit I'm not sure that matters at all for schedule strength by nature (especially if we lose out on having more Notre Dame matchups as a result).

Appears that not everyone agrees with Mr, Finebaum that Dabo & Clemson are yesterday's news, even by ESPN of all sources! However, they do put up a qualifier up, which I think we all can agree on, our offense needs to start acting like the Clemson offiense of recent years. However, I'm a little more optimistic than a lot of people. I think we had the talent last year, but we had a bunch of situations we couldn't overcome.

While, I was disappointed in DJ's play at QB, a lot of his problems were the results of less than adequate support around him. First, we didn't have a QB room to support him when he was injured (which many people forget, was most of the year), or when he just wasn't performing well. Substituting him when he wasn't performing well wouldn't have helped us because we just didn't have a satisfactorily substitute. The offensive line did not provide him adequate support--however, I think we had the talent, but constant injuries, inexperience, & continual attrition never allowed us to develop any kind of consistency to support & protect DJ. Additionally, the receiving corps did not assist DJ either. DJ wasn't accurate, but his receiver corps drops killed us at least as much (if not more) than DJ's inaccuracies. But again, constant injuries to key personnel, inexperience,& failure of several receivers to rise to the occasion killed us. Furthermore, injuries to our resident & newly arrived 'slot receivers' gave us no one to satisfactorily play the position, so several receivers were playing out of position & again, not rising to the situation. As much praise as was heaped on our RBs, they also suffered from constant injuries and inexperience. They also suffered from ill-timed transfers of key, experienced personnel!

Finally, I was extremely disappointed with our offensive coordinator (Tony Elliot) on several fronts: (1) I thought his play-calling was inadequate, and his adapting to the situation on the field (i.e.,Defense he was facing, & injuries of our key personnel) was lacking. (2) DJ and our receiving corps were not getting the job done. They needed support from the Tight Ends and the RBs. (a) The TE personnel he chose to use could have been better (with one key player in particular). And (b) the Tight End offensive plays I was expecting to see once he took over the TE position group was particularly disappointing. Finally (c), he should have also used his RBs in the receiving game more to provide another option to the TE's and receiving corps to keep the opposing defenses off-balance, and not focused on attacking our running game.

OK, so much for my amateur analysis and critique of last year's offensive woes. In a nut shell, I don't see any of these issues being major problem this year, For example, let's take them one by one.:

1. Injuries & Transfers. OK, we're bound to have injuries, but not like the overwhelming amount we had last year--particuarly, on the offensive side of the ball. And defensively, we've got so much quality depth, I think we could overcome the problem head-on if it raised its ugly head. Transfer-wise, I think we've got rid of most of the personnel who would be jumping during the season. I just think our team (offense & defense) are "All-In", and will support the team all year on the field or on the bench!

2. In QB play, we have an uninjured and slimmed down DJ, who should have all the incentive he needs from a year's worth of criticism to overcome most of his short-comings. Furthermore, DJ has a supporting QB who will be constantly pushing him to excel. Furthermore, if he fails because of injuries and/or non-performance, he has a 5-Star back-up that I'm fully confident in (even if he is a freshman).

3. OK, I definitely know I won't have a lot of support on the next issue--I'm fully confident that our Offensive Line will finally rise to the Occasion. I think our new offensive line coach will handle the situation, and I think we have a little better case of experience and a more functional second unit. Our early schedule should help us give the line time and initial experience to gain some confidence. However, Injuries to key positions along the line could still be extremely problematic.

4. Our Receiving Corps should be way more healthy, and more experienced. I'm very excited we have several players who are primed to have break-out seasons. Also, our slot position should be fully functional, and its personnel also be ready for a breakout season. Furthermore, I think our newcomer receivers will surprise us, particularly if some of our experienced receivers don't measure up (which I'm not worried about).

5. We have a new offensive coordinator, who many people are unaware of, or don't remember, that had several years of offensive coordinator experience before he came back to Clemson several years ago. I believe he will make key adjustments and improvements to our play calling. Furthermore, all the other problems I referenced above under Tony Elliot should be much improved. QB & receiver corps should be much improved. And we have a new Tight End coach & Receiving Game Coordinator who I think we make full use of our more experienced & talented TE group, and who will make sure that both the TEs and the RBs will fully augment our receivers to make sure we have an effective short & long receiving game to mesh with our fantastic and motivated RBs and their effective running game. Just MHO!

Just as a side note, I'm never worried about our Defense. Venables was the best & he's left us with plenty of talent, experience, depth, and youth to last s few more years. And I've been pleasantly surprised by both Coach Goodwin and Coach Eason, and confident that they will continue Venables recruiting and defensive scheming skills! GO TIGERS!
