This one I'm forgetting. Just like they forgot how to play D.

When they stop and pop from 5 feet inside the half court line, not a lot you can do. Course the negative Nancy's will come out in droves with this one.

They know nothing about basketball. They just like to whine and assume that we played poorly. I bet they didn’t even watch the game.

Yeah, uh-huh, right. Start working up next year's excuse.

I’m stating facts.

I’m also not freaking out and overreacting like you and others are, not even 1/3rd of the way through the season. Plenty of season left to see how things play out.

Reed is not a great defender so no excuse for giving up 19 3s. Yes some of that had to do with them being hot but they had plenty of wide open 3s. Like the announcers said Miss St is not a great 3 pt shooting team so it may have been part of the plan to give them the 3 ball but we needed to adjust. We had bright moments tho and almost got back into it. I will not lose faith in this team but we have looked lazy the past 3 or 4 games and Mitchell really needs to step his game up. Hopefully we get Reed back soon because we do need him but the rest of the team has to shot better from 3 and has to play better D. We have done a good job getting it into Thomas but we have to cut out on TOs and play smarter with more energy. To act like nothing is wrong with our team this year and that we are playing fine is false. We have to play better or we will get killed in ACC play.

I watched the game and I to believed it to be awful, but I have my fingers crossed that we can get some serious help from the bench.

How do you twist and turn shooting 43% from the field as playing well? And you don't think defense has to do with how well a team shoots? So how do you stop 3 point shooting? You play man to man. If you need to, you play full court man to man. There's no way to say we played well and the other team was beside their self in how they played. They only shot 53% . .that's nothing special, it's good.

We don’t have any bad losses. We need to get healthy and gel. If we are losing games we shouldn’t once we are healthy, I’ll be concerned.

Tonight was a bad loss. Sure we weren’t favored. But allowing 19 3s to a team who shoots them at 32% is a bad loss. Now, let’s get our team healthy again and pray we have less of those as the season moves forward.

Mississippi State is a top 20 team.

Dec 8, 2018, 10:28 PM

I agree we didn't play well, but MSU also hit some incredible shots. Some of their threes were poor defense by us, and others were despite our good defense. No shame in losing this game.

The following things point to having a bad season:

Dec 8, 2018, 11:24 PM [ in reply to What about this team points to a bad season? ]

-Reed is statistical leader in points, assists, steals, and he's hurt, and he will probably get hurt again

-We're reliant on Reed for virtually all production. That's not sustainable even if he stays healthy

-Young team will get smacked in the mouth in conference play

-We haven't passed the eye test at all yet this year

-Milk toast brownell is a horrible coach and leader

We also have no good wins. This has been a very bad start to the season. Ofcourse we can turn it around but we have to play much better. We have played like crap. Creighton and Miss St did both get hot on us but that has as much to do with our D as it does with their shooting.

Bad issue is 19 yes, 19 tres- pointers! I don't care what is happening but if you go man-2-man, no way they score 57 from 3s. That is turrible coaching. I promise you I know chiklets about coaching but I was embarrassed!! Guess what, if I could not stop three's and I was hanging close, then I would make them make 2s then we could recover.

Worst coaching I ever watched! 19 three pointers with 60 open shots that deep is ludicrous! I saw the same with the Creighton game. We will get slammed all year if we let 3s rain all day! This game pissed me off, Brownell sucked nuts with his defense! I'm still pissed!

Re: TNET: Clemson gives up 19 3-pointers in loss to No. 22 Mississippi State

Dec 8, 2018, 10:16 PM

I think the reason that everyone is on edge is the lack of defending the 3 point line and the fact that with the same team as last year (sweet 16) we are trending in a bad direction. Nebraska, Creighton, and now Mississippi state would have been 2 of 3 wins last year instead of 3 losses. Now we are going to have to go like 12-7 in league play to make the tourney. This team has the talent to be a tourney team. They just have to get it started now or we will be at the brink of no return. Mitchell has been a disappointment so far and he is someone we really relied on last year. The 2 new guys are not developed enough to help much. The only bright spot is Eli, Marquise, and Amari Simms. Simms is the guy that we should lean on more and more. He can play from all areas of the court. I am a ticket holder and will support them to the end. I just hope we can get out of this funk very soon.

Re: TNET: Clemson gives up 19 3-pointers in loss to No. 22 Mississippi State

Dec 8, 2018, 11:35 PM

Spot on and yes Mitchell really needs to hit the gym and put up some 3s. He has played well besides but has been on on his floaters and 3 ball. We need him to hit 2 or 3 3s a game I believe. We have potential but we have played poorly and conference play will certainly not be any easier.

If Mississippi State hits 50%

Dec 9, 2018, 7:06 AM

Of their 3's...they lose the game. It was an unconscious effort.

So, the admittedly best player on the team is hurt...and it should have no effect on performance. A kid in high school a year ago can step in make it happen. Alrighty, then...

Hard to win against a team that makes 19/30 3-pointers

Dec 9, 2018, 8:58 AM

And without our leading scorer.... I haven’t watched the game yet but I’m actually surprised we hung in there and didn’t get blown out.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

if MSU shot 50% from 3 yesterday

Dec 9, 2018, 9:36 AM

it would have been an impressive performance... and the Tigers would have outscored them by 1

most decent teams are going to win if they shoot 63% from 3

look at the shot chart - some of their 3's were long... shots you wouldn't normally contest

Dec 9, 2018, 12:21 PM

Bottom line not really disappointed in the teams effort or production. We were missing our best player not really an excuse but a factor. My big disappointment is coaching, staying zone to the tune of 19 3s made is ridiculous . We are also relying on one player too much that has no business playing D1 BB. It’s time to sink or swim with a couple of the young guys because it can’t be worse than this one particular 5th year Sr. The Talent is good enough to get better but BB has got to start coaching.
