Maybe? I sure didn't see this coming bc I didn't think that he was an NBA quality type player, but I do wish him the best in what ever he chooses to do through out his life!!!

Wow. Just kind of sad to see a really good defender like this play for only a few months.

It was a great season but it will be hard to duplicate next year. Those 3 freshmen better be getting ready because they could be getting some minutes.

Typically guys don’t leave college early for the pro’s unless they’ve got NBA star type talent.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

he's not leaving early, he graduates in May

Apr 11, 2018, 5:09 PM

he just wants to enter the job market now because he is finished with his education. if he sticks around, he has to enter grad school, and he probably doesn't want to waste his or a professors time with that when he's not interested in being a student anymore... he can make a great living playing in Europe, and I bet that is what he has his eyes on...

2024 white level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Ha! that wasn't all Oglesby making that decision

Apr 11, 2018, 5:37 PM

on his own if I remember correctly... OP wasn't giving him the "one more year" spiel... either there was an eligibility issue or a "discipline" issue if I remember correctly...

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You remember incorrectly, there was no such issue...OP did

2024 white level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: You remember incorrectly, there was no such issue...OP did

Apr 12, 2018, 12:04 AM

an unwillingness to improve an abhorrent D when instructed to do so by your coach is a "discipline" issue... my reference to the discussion issue was a conflict with OP, I just couldn't remember the details... Also, there were a couple of players who didn't give it the old-fashioned college try in class during OP's or Shyatt's time as well, but thanks for confirming that discipline issue

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

discipline issue and he CERTAINLY wasn't forced out like you originally stated

2024 white level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Reading is fundamental but comprehension is key

Apr 12, 2018, 1:14 AM

I said it wasn't 100% Oglesby's decision, he and OP disagreed about the importance of playing D...
If OP had allowed him play how he wanted and not cut his minutes, TO would have stayed. TO was going to be on The bench more until he improved his D, so he left... A conflict with a coach of that magnitude is a discipline issue... What do you call the situation where your child doesn't follow your rules?

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It was absolutely 100% his decision and in no way did it

Apr 12, 2018, 2:11 AM

involve a disciplinary issue...I don't know how else to say it...You're just conjuring, admit you misremembered or better yet, just let it go

2024 white level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

are you dense or just gotta be right?

Apr 12, 2018, 12:07 PM

a player who is a "discipline" issue is not the same as a player who is a "disciplinary" issue. I never said he was a "disciplinary" issue. I said Oglesby might have had a "discipline" issue, and that he did have with OP because he refused to "discipline" himself to be a better defender. So, yeah, TO made up his mind and left the program based on OP threatening to cut his minutes if he didn't get with his mandate to D up better...

Good luck young man. Got to do what you think is best and it's not like he's leaving without a degree and that is supposed to be the most important thing in student athletes.

That being said, I agree with Marine that I would selfishly like to see everyone that can return do so.

I thought we were counting on this dude next year.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

not surprising at all really...

Apr 11, 2018, 5:16 PM

lot's of people, me included, don't care to continue their education directly from undergrad to grad school... apparently, he values a professional opportunity now, probably overseas, more than he values one year of grad school to play college ball...

let's see, be required to be a student to play ball, or just go play ball... he chose, just go play ball...

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I get your drift but don't tell me this didnt

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I get your drift but don't tell me this didnt

Apr 11, 2018, 5:33 PM

it did, but only because I didn't know that he was graduating. in his role, I wouldn't go back for only one year and have to put up with being a student... I would go overseas, make some money and start living life as a professional...

playing ball as a collegian in the US gets you a couple of years grace to play on some of the 2nd level Euro teams before you have to fight for a roster spot...

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Ok so we are both surprised with this announcement.

Apr 11, 2018, 6:18 PM

Please don't mistakenly think I'm trying to say his reasoning is right or wrong, but I don't think ANYONE saw this coming. You included. That's all I'm saying.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I didn't know he is graduating, and its really not

Apr 12, 2018, 12:25 AM

a big deal to me... A surprise to me would be if Reed, Mitchell or Thomas leaves, something that raises my eyebrows or is disappointing. Skara leaving is neither of those things, it's just newfound knowledge to me because he's graduating and doesn't want to be a student anymore.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So ok to close this side discussion

Apr 12, 2018, 9:01 PM

We didn't see this coming. That's synonymous with surprised. Good deal.

like english. but you choose to use the word and definition you want because it fits you, and I will choose the word and definition that I want because it fits me...
isn't America great?? we all get to make our own personal and individual choices without infringing on anyone else. it's all a personal and individual choice, and that is perfectly fine...

I’m wondering if a young 50 year old has a chance of coming back and making a team overseas. 25 years of ymca and church league ball after my career! I run well and pride myself in defense but I was slowed down some by the cage and two back operations on my back.

Re: TNET: Clemson forward to turn pro

Apr 11, 2018, 5:18 PM

I would have loved to have been able to see him play for Clemson one more year but, he IS graduating next month. He is from Europe and has been away from home for a long time. European basketball is less physical than US basketball and Skara will probably fit in well, offensively. His defense will be just fine. Many guys who don't do well in the US collegiate level (and Skara did OK), find their niche in Europe. Sorry to see him go. I thought the front line of Thomas, Skara and Simms was going to be dominant. Going to have to plug someone else in...maybe another transfer, or two.
