I don't get the fascination with the weigh in. Rarely do weights change very much so make them all run the 40 and post times and it will be a story to keep.

Coaches tell players roughly where they want to see them at coming into fall practice and with the help of the training table it up to the players to either gain or lose weight per the coaches expectations. It appears that our guys bought in and for the most part all came in where you wanted to see them

DJ said he was at 265 at the end of the season.
He’s still too heavy. Hopefully he’ll drop some more from practice.

What are you talking about? DJ played in high school at around 250. Everyone who paid attention knew he was 260+ last year just by his own comments. So not sure how you thought he should be significantly lighter when most knew that 30 to 35 lbs lost would put him in the 230 range. DJ is never going to be 200 lbs. What DJ needs to do is stay around 230 and not blow up after hitting his weight bench mark. Almost all these weights are not their playing weight. Some guys are going to lose weight and some are going to gain.

It's not just about weight, it's about body composition. I'm 6'1 215 with a six pack, but if you just go by just weight (BMI) I'm borderline obese. He was at 265 end of last year which was definitely fat for him. If his BF% is good that's all that matters.

Yup! We want him fast but we want him strong, too. I'd much rather he run and take hits like a TE than a WR. He needs to be enough of a run threat to keep the pass coverage honest. It's a long season and we have plenty of weapons that all work better when he's healthy..

As discussed above, Pennington at 360 (from 335), if that's all muscle...wow.
Other OLs that jumped out to me. Walker Parks to 314 (from 300), and Collin Sadler at 323 (from 295).
Two LBs that surprised me, Simpson at 240 (from 230) and Barrett Carter at 240 (from 225). I feel for those taking a hit from those two!
Yes, a lot of variables relative to the "last listed weight" and now, but since the games haven't started yet, it's something to get excited about.

Pennington at 360 ... I'm betting that he'll lose ~ 20 lb. of this over the next month.
Even if it's all muscle at 360, this might be too much for the movement needed at the G position.

I think that’s Mason Johnstone (237 lbs) from Christ Church Episcopal School in Greenville. 6’7 PWO, so he will have time to develop. I saw him play a lot in HS last year, great kid, great athlete, from a good family.

It is if they were carrying too much fat. If you look at most of the TE in the NFL (Kelce, Waller, Pitts, etc) they're long, athletic, and lean.

We are sitting in a great position; I think.
Forced to play young OL last season "who were not ready mentally/physically"! Well, now they have experience because of being forced into action. Plus, looking at the weights and reports from summer workouts they have all gotten stronger!
Something to be excited about for certain if you're a Clemson Tigers fan!
Imagine if the OL is powerful enough to create some nice creases and defenders trying to catch cat-quick Ship or Pace. Or trying to shed a block and arm tackle Mafah.
I think Coach Richardson's passing game is going to cause defenses to lighten the box and a bigger/stronger OL is going to pay huge dividends when that happens.
Can't wait.

You can tell he has dropped weight and added a ton of muscle. I think he is going to wreak havok and will be a good backup for TD and BB.

Two thoughts I have seeing this. One, I NEVER would have imagined that Dacari was heavier than Beaux. Beaux looks like a freight train, Dacari more slender.. The other is that DJ lost 16lbs, been hearing a lot of 25-30 which is what most of us thought he really needed. Guess we will see the end results. Also, what happened to the other Herbstreit kid, the safety. Did he transfer or is he finished with football? They rarely got on the field but curious.
