Clemson football takes step back in 247Sports 'Development Rating'

Clemson slipped eight spots in the 247Sports "Development Rating" released on Monday. The metric takes a 5-year snapshot at players going to the NFL and assigns points to an eligible group for different round selections, taking players out of the grading who did not finish their time at the school o Read Update »

So, if I'm reading this correct, the rating is actually good for Clemson because no one wants to leave. Nothing Burger rating if you asked me... As long as you're in or around 10th.

It's huge from a recruiting stand point. It's The main reason Alabama continues to bring in top classes. Kids want to make it to the NFL and go to the teams that put kids in the league.

Yeah, I understand what you're saying. I probably didn't explain my post. Judge did a much better job posting more of what I was trying to say.

They will spend sleepless nights figuring a way to kick Clemson. For us all that no better than to listen to what they are saying, we know that their jealousy of what Dabo (a Bama home grown) has done at Clemson, and they will look for reasons to kick dirt on him. None of the Dabo haters in Alabama wants to remember that Dabo was fired at Bama when his young coaching career hadn't long began, and his firing was bc of the failure of another HC, and that firing almost cost Dabo a much wanted college coaching career, and kicking dirt on him is better for them than telling the whole truth about Dabo, and why he would never return to coach at Bama ever again!!!!

inexact science of recruiting rankings.

I would put our staff's ability to develop players up against any other.

It’s more than that even. Keep in mind how large Sabans recruiting classes are. In that same time frame Bama average 28 kids per class, Clemson averaged 20. Bama has 3-5 4 and 5 star players that don’t develop that cycle out of the program by year 3. What they are calling development is just mining, churning as much talent through the system as possible.

A much better way to measure development would be to compare the average 4-5 year recruiting ranks to the on field results. If you do that you will find Clemson, Washington, Wisconsin, Boise etc developing players.

Exactly. In my humble opinion, all of our programs suffer from such a high standard that Clemson demands. We actually care about a "student athletes" graduating, attending classes etc. Brownell suffers from this too. I'm really proud we put emphasis on recruiting to a standard.

Yeah I wouldn’t trade our staff for any type of paper victory like this.

Take the Burlsworth, the Campbell, the graduation rate, the off the field charities and it’s pretty clear the Clemson is among the elite right now in regards to developing the players into outstanding athletes and outstanding men.

It doesn't matter what they say, Dabo is winning, he lives in the playoffs with his teams, and Dabo has won two National championships against Saban's 5 star FB team, and Dabo has beat him with mostly 3 and 4 star players with just a couple of 5 star players. They should just ask Nick Saban himself, what he thinks about Dabo/coaches ability to develop player that he can win against the best with!!!!

If it's largely % based, then the volume shouldn't really

Keep in mind, 51.5% of Alabama’s five-star prospects have turned into first-round picks in the Nick Saban era as of the 2020 NFL Draft. The national average with Alabama removed is 21.2%.

Three 3 stars from the 2016 class are now in the pros:

Isaiah Simmons - 0.8746
Tremayne Anchrum - 0.8707
K'Von Wallace - 0.8243

Wonder how many three stars has Alabama sent to the pros?

These are recent 1st or 2nd rounders from Bama that were 3 stars:

Mac Jones .8815 - 1st rd
Josh Jacobs .8725 - 1st rd
Irv Smith Jr. .8671 - 2nd rd

If you want to see a real feat. They got a long snapper drafted last year:

Thomas Fletcher - 6th rd - .7853

Josh Jacobs should have never been a 3 star.

Never know that 65.6% was higher than 69%. New math I guess. What a worthless pile of stats.

It's sorted by their development rating, not by % alone

There's clearly other factors at play that aren't shown.

This ranking doesn't make any sense! Is it grading development or number of NFL drafts!? Clemson has brought in 2 and 3 stars to develop them into solid D1 athletes. Some drafted example Grady Jarret, etc! And even develops players at different positions like a Vic Beasley, etc! How many 3 stars has Alabama or Ohio St develop like Clemson? Don't worry, I'll wait!

Star Rating out of high school is so overrated and skewed horribly, 65% of NFL are 3, 2, 1, or no star players anyway. This whole rating process is explained basically that the reason Clemson suffered the decline by being a family strong, education valued, nothing giving free run program, developing young man into blue collar successful Graduates of higher learning institution with tools to win/succeed in any journey they choose. Also said Clemson don’t have turnover at the bottom there roster LIKE other program rosters from players cycling out leaving not trusting the process. “Basically” not valuing the blue collar culture and work ethic like Dabo’s coaching staff instill in there players from start of recruiting to stay, finish, an trust in the process. I’m SORRY but that isn’t losing that sounds like winning.
