Clemson assistant finishes his first Ironman race

Bucket list accomplished for one Tiger. Clemson senior offensive assistant J.P. Losman completed his first Ironman race on Sunday in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. It took him a total time of 14:53:40, and he was ranked 120th out of 180 with males aged 40-44. He was ranked 726th out of 1,081 males and 980th Read Update »

Congrats J.P.!

If I tried hard I could probably do that in 6 weeks.

Jun 28, 2021, 9:38 AM

Not 6 weeks from NOW. I mean over a SIX WEEK PERIOD!

I am pretty sure that any one of the three events would

result in my immediate demise. :(

I don't care where he ranked, just FINISHING that event is

Jun 28, 2021, 10:24 AM

one Hail of an accomplishment.

Forever from now on when he pushes some of these kids at practice and they claim they are tired, he can truly call them pansies, and there will be nothing they can do to deny.

Congratulations, Coach Losman!

Agreed- this is not about one’s rank. It’s the journey and finishing!

Jun 28, 2021, 10:59 AM

Congrats coach!

Ther very same thing. I don't care if he was the only entrant...that is an accomplishment.

I used to do things like that back in my 40s.

I would actually like to see him compete in the Tinman Tri in Honolulu, I think that the shorter distances are more suited for guys 40 and over, and the Iron Man was an excellent tune up for a good finish in the Tin Man!!!!

I read some where that it was now called the Cliff Rigsbee Tinman Triathlon. But it was the Tinman Triathlon when I done it in 1988, it was fun bc my intentions wasn't to even think about training to try and win it, it was to test myself to just finish, and I finished it, and I was 36 at the time.

My training partner was a 26 year old Army Ranger, and he could have finished the Tinman wayyyy a head of me, but he chose to hang back, and push me to the finish line. I don't think I would have made it without him pushing me bc, that 10k run on the last leg was by far the hardest thing that I've ever pushed my body to do. Today at 68, I don't think that I could finish the 800 meter swim!!!

I think all distances are suited for guys over 40. Either way it is more about how much slow or fast twitch muscle fiber you have and how much time you have to train.

I was a drunk for 40 years then took up jogging as I had no real life. From then on I was a drunken jogger. I have done over a thousand races at all distances up to 24 hour runs.
I could swim OK, always hated the bike as I was afraid of getting killed in traffic.
I went under some NC and SC running age group and course records in my 40's and 50's at distance events.

After 70 my beer belly still attracts the ladies.

Good for him. IM is a race that is as tough mentally as it is physically.

I met him at the Clemson basketball camp as both of our sons were attending the camp. Seems like a really cool guy and that is awesome accomplishment. I'm glad we have guys like this coaching our team.

Only folks who have run a triathlon (even a short triathlon) can begin to appreciate just how difficult it is to accomplish what he just did.

Did a short one @ Furman decades ago. Didn’t really train for it. 1K 40K 10k. It about killed me. Only time in my life that I ever drank a Jolt Cola. Was falling asleep driving home. The Jolt worked for about 10 mins…..micro-sleeping the rest of the way home.

Running after riding is hard. Running a marathon after riding 112 miles is somewhere between masochistic and insane. Gonna have to try it at least once.
