I love CJ but am I the only one questioning the RB recruiting? Looks like we'll need a home run in the 24 class at this point to replace a wide open backfield.. early playing time will be a huge pitch, any thoughts?

There has been plenty of criticism on this board over Robbie Caldwell, Dan Pearman, Tyler Grisham, Tony Elliott, and so on. You constantly say the "old football" fans won't let Dabo be criticized. Have you ever been on this board when the least little thing goes wrong during a game?

Yes - the youth are idiots who leave at halftime but are p1ssed when we don't beat USC by 30.
For the coaches:
Robbie turned to hot garbage the last 3-5 years before retirement. Our Oline was terrible but covered up by superb QB/RB.
Dan Pearman caught a bad rap for using the N-word in the year of woke-college-white-women and overly offended college athletes.
Tyler Grisham so far has shown mundane recruiting and even more mundane results from current WRs.
Tony Elliot was an abject question mark from the first game he took over as OC (natty vs LSU). His departure was no coincidence.

1. Caldwell may have regressed some his last couple seasons but we won the national championship 4 seasons ago and played for another 3 seasons ago.
2. Dan Pearman didn't call anyone anything. He repeated the word while yelling at a player for using it on the practice field.
3. Tyler Grisham has brought in five top-20 receivers in 3 recruiting years, and he led the most productive receiving corp in the history of Clemson football in year 1 of 2 coaching seasons. The results from his 2nd year were OBVIOUSLY primarily due to a broken QB.
4. Not sure what you're complaining about with Elliott, but head the most productive offense in Clemson history during his 7 years as OC, he made 6 of 7 CFP playoffs during his 7 years, played in the national championship game in 4 of 7 years, and won 2 national championships as well. What do you mean it was no coincidence he CHOSE to be a head coach at a P5 school?

CJ is working at a disadvantage until our O-line proves itself. I think Austin has things going in the right direction. No running back wants to run behind the lines that we have had the last couple of years.

Maybe we should open up the recruiting and offer more than 3 RB's. I have seen several 4 stars commit who did not even get offered. Dontavius Braswell is about to commit to either BC, Louisville, Nebraska or South Carolina, why did not we not go after him, he is from Georgia? Please do not say he does not fit our scheme. It seems we sit back and wait to see if we are going to get one guy and if we do not then we have to fight after the scraps at times.

Dabo doesn’t run his program that way… When he tells a recruit something he can be trusted to keep his word. I believe I have read in the past that he will actually tell recruits the truth that we only have 3 slots and we have 3 offers out but if one falls through we will be back in touch. So these other guys probably know exactly where they stand. It’s just one of the ways he builds trust and legitimacy.

As I understand it, you're both partially right.
From what I understand, Dabo is 100% open and clear about how many slots there are this year, and how many offers are handed out. It isn't always 1:1 (meaning, there might be 2 slots and 4 offers), but he's open about that. As long as a slot is still open when you accept, it's yours. He never pulls that. BUT he's also clear that if you want to take your time, visit tons of colleges and rack up offers, that someone who really wants to be a Tiger could take that slot.
So he can use urgency as a tool, which makes sense. However, it goes both ways, as once someone decides to be 'All In' and commit, then he never revokes that offer. It's a two-way street, which I think is rare. I think it's also why we have so many 3-stars work out. He'd rather have a 3-star take that slot that's all-in than a higher rated guy that wants to take his time and shop around. Less drama, more team-mentality.
