Ok TNet experts - is this better than giving the scholarship to a coach’s son?

Absolutely better. We need players. We need depth. Kobe seems to be a solid player who we would have celebrated a few years ago.

And Ray Ray had a great game for Pittsburgh today

Jan 9, 2022, 6:18 PM

Punt return and several clutch receptions.

Yea. Ray Ray has been a consistent target for Big Ben the last couple of games.

I like it!

Re: 2022 legacy LB prospect: Wonder why not an early signer?

Jan 9, 2022, 6:36 PM

Somewhat interested in why Kobe McCloud chose not to be an early-signee somewhere?

I haven't followed this guy, but does anyone know whether he had committed somewhere, and then de-committed?

Regardless, if K.McCloud was holding off on committing somewhere until he got a 'big' offer, then his gambit paid off!

Maybe he'll commit to us very soon!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Because we've communicated with him

Jan 9, 2022, 6:44 PM

as we did with Nolan Turner's brother, the new RB offer. More kids waited this year, and many more will next year due to the fluidity of rosters. The school you may want to attend may not have room in November but could in January.

As for McCleod, his offers are legit. He's a developmental guy with athletic ability, exactly the type I'm hoping we'll target for our last 10-15 scholarships. A guy to come in, put in the time in the weight room and skill development, and see where they are in 2-3 years

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

None of these kids

Jan 9, 2022, 7:35 PM

Were on our 2 deep in recruiting this year. I’m sure they will all be coached up but this is not ideal recruiting for what was a top 5 program. You can put as much lipstick on it as you want. Dabo dropped the ball on this year’s recruiting.

Will 2023 be better? Definitely. Dabo will get it figured out but this class is NOT competing with the top 10 in the country. Those are facts

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The class was just fine until the 4 last second decommits

Jan 9, 2022, 7:55 PM

not one thing that could have been done about that. The question is how you fill those last 10-15 scholarships, guys who in the past would be sure redshirts. You can take the Bama, Jawja route and recruit basically all 4 and 5 stars, and have a revolving door. Bama is 14 over the 85 scholarship limit next week so out go 14 guys. Or, you can recruit some developmental guys who understand they are looking at 2-3 years down the road for playing time. The exact type guy we've had tremendous success with

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You need to look at recruiting prior to us first making the playoffs in

Jan 9, 2022, 8:08 PM [ in reply to None of these kids ]

2015. Look at the roster and stars in 2016 and even 2018. We didn't recruit on the level of the teams we were beating in the playoffs. We outcoached and outplayed people.

That's not to say I don't want to sign all 4 and 5 star guys, but we broke on the scene and made 6 straight playoffs with less than the teams we were beating.

We had ramped up recruiting in regards to 4 and 5 stars. We are still bringing I great quality on a per player basis, and ultimately we can win exactly like we have..

Depends on QB play..

We also have less coaching experience than what we had when we were coaching guys up, who is going to coach up our inexperience coaching staff???

Said he committed to Florida International in August but nothing about opening his recruiting back up.

247 still lists him as hard commit. South Carolina didn't offer. Pitt, Cuse, Iowa State, Indiana, and Jeff Scott.

I would just say we don’t seem to be very creative

Jan 9, 2022, 6:40 PM

When searching for players. Legacy or people associated with anything Bama seems to be the fall back when we miss on others. Seems to have some decent offers for sure though

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This practice has clearly hurt us in the playoff era.

Jan 9, 2022, 8:10 PM

Not.

Re: I would just say we don’t seem to be creative: Wrong

Jan 9, 2022, 8:40 PM [ in reply to I would just say we don’t seem to be very creative ]

??? about Clemson not being creative with respect to recruiting? Where you been?

Isiah Simmons (not related to, nor the son of a former Clemson player or Clemson coach) ... 3* player who red-shirted.

Hunter Renfrow (not related to, nor the son of a former Clemson player or Clemson coach) ... walk-on player. You'll have to remind me of how he did at Clemson.

Nolan Turner (OK, he was the son of Dabo's former teammate at Alabama) ... was he a 2* or a 'zero star' player? But I guess N.Turner's relationship to an ex-Dabo teammater rendered his terrific play for us in 2020 and 2021 as a mirage.

Denzel Johnson (started at S in the Nat.Championship game against LSU) ... was a 2* or 3* out of Columbia area (not related to, nor the son of a former Clemson player or Clemson coach) ... another Dabo 'bust' if we accept your analysis.

J.Skalski ... under-the-radar 3* / B.Spector ... under the radar 3* (but oops .. the son of former Clemson player Robbie Spector, so this makes B.Spector another of those nepotistic Dabo busts). So we'll just focus on discrediting J.Skalski as a key contributor on a CFP team.

This list can go on and on but I'm going to get a beer.

Pay more attention to the Clemson roster of recent times and you'll recognize your vision problem.

Beasley, Goodson, Kvon Wallace, Ryan Carter

Humphries, Gaines Adams, Brandon Hall, David Palmer, Wayne Gallman, McFadden, a ton of OL, and on, and on, and on

This class will be lucky to be top 20

Jan 9, 2022, 7:42 PM

see earlier post in thread. Not the type of class a previous top 5 program should be having. Dabo is great and will figure it out but his planning didn’t prepare for the portal. He also did a poor job of roster management. Live and learn.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Class will be lucky re: top 20: The apocalypse is near

Jan 9, 2022, 8:52 PM

Ooooh my Blue Sky Dog®, our 2020 class will not be top 20 after the 4 x 4* recruits commits bailed after B.Venables left.

Like it or not, it's 'situation normal' that recruits de-commit after their key recruiter leaves one college and goes to another college.

Sure, that's proof positive that Dabo has lost it // Dabo is behind the times // the apocalypse is nigh.

Oh yeah, and Dabo hasn't offered scholarships to every portal player, so his roster management is bad.

Let's refrain from committing suicide and let's see how the portal plays out ... that part isn't over yet. It is known that we actively pursued selected portal players; we were close but no cigar with one terrific Center from UVA and are actively in the mix for a monster D-Tackle at Oregon who 'portal-decommitted' from Auburn when N.Eason left Auburn. So calm down with the portal stuff ... it's OK.

Live and learn.

Re: Class will be lucky re: top 20: The apocalypse is near

Jan 9, 2022, 9:14 PM

Never said it was the end of Clemson football. I said that Dabo has mismanaged the roster as of late. If we were recruiting the “right” guys that we bs about then they all would not have jumped ship for BV.

Dabos fault for most of it. It will improve and Dabo will eventually get it fixed. But it will have an affect on the program in the next few years.

And yes of course it is always ok. It’s just football

Re: Class will be lucky re: top 20: The apocalypse is near

Jan 9, 2022, 11:38 PM [ in reply to Re: Class will be lucky re: top 20: The apocalypse is near ]

The recruits that jumped ship after an assistant coach left is "the norm" hasn't held up this year. We're the only top program that had more than 1 commit leave when a coach or coaches left this year. I was tracking it before the early signing day to see if there were any we might could pick up and I found it didn't happen. Head coach leaving it happens more frequently but I've found that's not the case with coordinator. Just fyi.

Wrong! All this class lacked is numbers. It already has

Jan 9, 2022, 11:40 PM [ in reply to This class will be lucky to be top 20 ]

plenty of star-power.

The key to a top rated class is signing a core group of highly regarded players and then filling out the class with under-the-radar guys and projects.

When we end up with a large class (18-21 guys) it will definitely be ranked well inside the final Top 20 on signing day.

Re: TNET: 2022 legacy LB prospect announces Clemson offer

We are piece-mailing this recruiting class to reach the 85 limit. How many will hit the transfer portal next year because they will get buried down the depth chart? Anyways, we have the #25 recruiting class on 247. When its all said and down we maybe in the top 15 who knows.
